Planning and Evaluation
Brief
I did promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two options:
• a cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package);
• a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).
Target Audience
• The target audience that I am aiming for is teenagers/young adults
• People who are interested in popular music e.g. music charts
Pre-Production
Questionnaire
• I planned a questionnaire and found out what sort of music/music video they prefer.
• Most of the people preferred mainstream/popular music
• Also most people didn’t mind
about having special effects
in a video
Theme
• The theme that I wanted to do was nightlife as it is a popular idea to have in music video
• This attracts to teenagers
and young adults as
they like to have fun
to and enjoy
themselves
Licence
• I sent an email for permission to use the song ‘Bonkers’ for my project
• Emailed both record labels
Cast/Crew List
The cast/crew list
that I included were
17-18 year olds that
fitted in the target
Audience.
Storyboard
I drew my ideas for what
to do for my actual music
Video. I included what clips
I would add and the design
of what the characters
would look like
The Concept
I written of what I wouldadd for my music video.Different locations I would film and what theCharacters would do.The inspiration fromChemical Brothers –Galvanize
Ideas and Inspiration
The music video
‘Galvanize’ gave me
inspiration because of the
clown characters
included in the music
video
Action Plan
This was all my planning on my
project. Some of these did not
go according to plan because
mainly I couldn’t take pictures
or film at that time.
Post-Production
Filming characters
The two characters are
clowns being rebellious
and having fun. The
face paint I wanted it to be
bright colours.
Filming shots
I filmed inside the car and
on the bridge to get
motorway shots as that
refers to my theme on
‘nightlife’

In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
The conventions I used in my music video are the clown characters I included which is where I got my inspiration from the music video ‘Galvanize’ by the Chemical Brothers. I challenged the conventions by using the effects on iMovie ‘adjust colours’.
In my magazine
advertisement, the
conventions I included
were the positive quotes from different newspapers and magazines. I also the date of when the album comes out and the website as that is included as advertising.
The album cover including big text so that the audience knows what artist and the album name is.
The back I included the
Copyright text which is
usually in most album covers
How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary texts?
I used the same font
throughout my products,
Century Gothic and
Champagne and Limousines
to make it more professional
I print screened the
image to add it to my
magazine advertisement
and tinted it to the colour
pink as I wanted it
eye-catching to the
audience
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Most of my feedback
was positive, these
were the comments
from Youtube.
All the comments
Were made by 18-23 year old both male and female.
The other feedback I got was
from the media teacher
how the lighting wasn’t
good in my 1st attempt. So
I used ‘adjust colours’ on
iMovie, to make the video more
cohesive.
The feedback that I got from audience for my ancillary products were:
• The back cover looked good because of the tinted colour purple
• The text stands out
• The use of pictures were good
• Improvements – clearer pictures for inside the digipak
How did you use media technologies in the construction
and research, planning and evaluation stages?
• I used iMovie to edit my music video and clips
• I used Photoshop to edit my magazine advertisement and cd cover digipak
Improvements
• Add more footage to the video
• Add more special effects to my cover and advertisements
