About NIFT-TEA

NIFT-TEA When the knitwear industry in Tirupur grew by leaps and bounds, it created a demand for skilled manpower to match with the increase in

industrial units. This need was sensed by all the entrepreneurs and exporters which mooted them to lay foundation for an institution exclusively dedicated to fashion and knitwear education and thus was born NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute.

NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute was promoted by Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) Established in the year 1995, registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 with the initial grant by the Ministry of SSI & ARI, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

By the year 2008, the Governing Council of NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute decided to expand its educational service by starting a new College “NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion” under the affiliation of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore to offer Under Graduate, Post Graduate, PG Diploma & Reserch Programs.

Tirupur, the knitwear capital of India has seen a meteoric rise in the past decades in terms of industrial growth and also in generating employment opportunities for the skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workforce.

Besides providing a substantial contribution to the GDP numbers and national growth, it is in the sphere of employment generation the industry offers a gamut of opportunities at various levels as designers, merchandisers, quality control, production supervisors and so on.

As the demand for manpower in the apparel industry was predicted to grow by leaps and bounds, the knitwear entrepreneurs and exporters of the Tirupur region, sought to meet this demand through establishing an institution exclusively for knitwear technical education.

Their combined vision was realized by the birth of NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion in the year 1997. The institution was established with the ideal of offering courses related to the needs of the knitwear industry to meet the demands of manpower offered by it. The uniqueness of NIFT-TEA is that it is registered under the Societies Act and it is run as a not-for-profit institution with a noble ideal of skilling the younger generation with employable talents and makes them an industry-ready work-force.

I am proud to record that NIFT-TEA has rendered substantial contribution in terms skilling the youth of the county and strongly belief that it will do so in the future days to come.

The brochure has been prepared by us to bridge the time gap in the recruitment process that will help recruiters to narrow down their hunt for talent by focussing themselves on their specific job requirement.

NIFT TEA have a final year student strength of 305, in the realms of apparel fashion design, apparel manufacturing and merchandising, fashion and apparel management, garment design and production, Costume design and fashion, commerce, commerce with CA, Business administration and computer science. This vast resource base of ours have been tutored and trained in a manner that renders them readily employable.

Offering of skilled manpower is one of the goals of NIFT TEA, which the institution has fulfilled to this day and will do so for times to come.

Placement Procedure

1. Invitations of the onset of the Placements with the tentative itinerary of the placement

process along with the Placement brochure are sent to the company

2. After a company expresses interest for participation, the company is sent a Job

Announcement Form to share the details of the profile offered.

3. A Placement Broacher account is created for the to view the profiles of students

interested in the Job Profile

4. Meanwhile, students can access the company profile and prepare themselves for

the interview, and students will submit their resumes according to the deadline set

by the placement cell.

5. Companies are informed about their slots for the placement season.

Slotting is done subject to following parameters

• Student Preferences

• Work profile

• Job Location

• Compensation package

• Career Prospects

• Student Intake

6. Any pre-requisite of online/offline tests are conducted

7. Based upon student profiles and/or test performances, short-list of students is

provided either before the commencement of placement session or at the time of

placement session

8. Shortlisted candidates then appear for the Placement Process of the company

9. Company submits a list of finally selected students along with a waitlist at the end

of the day/slot.


Placement Policy

1. The Students' Placement Office follows a strict "One Student, One Job Policy". Once

a student is offered a job, he/she is out of the placement process

2. On completion of the recruitment procedure, the company needs to submit the final

list of offers in a closed envelope to the placement office. The offers will be opened

at the end of the slot, when all companies finish their process

3. In case a candidate receives multiple job offers, the candidate has to make a

choice at the end of the slot. The companies will be intimated about the final

choice of the candidate two hours after the end of the slot, or receipt of the offers,

whichever is later.

4. The companies have to furnish a waiting list to the placement office along with

the final offers. In case a student who is extended multiple offers chooses the other

company, the first candidate in the waiting list moves up in the final offer list. The

waitlist will not be disclosed to the students and will be released on a per student

basis

5. Companies are advised to be in touch with the Placement officer at all times.

They should not entertain any direct contact from the students appearing in

the placement process. In case of such a situation, the company must bring this

immediately to the notice of the Placement Officer.

10. A student may get multiple offers at the end of a day / slot, in such a case he /

she is allowed to choose one of them.

11. A student must make a decision within two hours of the end of the day/slot.

12. Once a student has been offered a job, he/she is out of the placement process.

This is in com pliance with our One Student, One Job Policy

13. The complete process is governed by placement policy which is shared with the

companies at the start of the process.

About the Department :

The Department of Apparel Fashion Design (AFD) was established in the year 2002 with the noble vision of shaping creative minds of budding designers and framing them to become a part of worlds design heritage by contributing in terms of design and product development in national and international market. It further grooms young creative minds through continuous trend and research analysis and make their designing aspiration and talent in a constructive focused way to help them becoming a name in itself the area of fashion designing.

About the Course :

Department of Apparel Fashion Designing is offering both three year undergraduate and two years Post Graduate courses in Apparel Fashion Designing. The curriculum includes both classroom teaching as well as practical overview of subjects including textiles, Woven and Knit fabric processing, Production management, trade documentation and costing apart from the core area of designing software. An intensive industrial visits supports the students in acquiring their industrial exposures in every subject in both under graduate and post graduate level. International design challenges with various countries are a regular project work of this department where student work in the area of design development and sampling work by using the latest design forecasting and market trends.

The Department offers three years Bachelor Degree in Apparel Manufacturing and Merchandising B.Sc(AMM) programs, in affiliation with Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The faculty members have vast experience in Academic and industrial arena and have published papers in leading International journals and Books including Refereed, and in various seminars and conferences. The spacious laboratories are well equipped with the modern machines and equipments, used to teach the students as well as for commercial purpose.

About the Course :

B.Sc (AMM) is a three year degree course designed to develop managerial persons to cater the needs of Apparel Industry. The curriculum is designed to cover the technical and managerial aspects of apparel export business. It also provides practical knowledge through laboratory classes in Knit & woven fabric analysis, Testing, Pattern making manual & CAD, ERP in Apparel Industry, Sewing Technologies with the Internship Learning Techniques and Industrial Visit testimony.

Since June 2015 the department of Costume Design and Fashion is working towards catering the growing needs of both the textile and fashion industry by providing quality education to students in costume & fashion designing

About the Course :

An integrated approach towards creative application is provided through theoretical classes and practical trainings. Students are taught about the whole process and technology involved in apparel production from garment designing to apparel manufacturing. Students develop high level designing skills through expertise coaching provided to them in fashion sketching and computer aided designing. Students experiment and develop practical knowledge in fiber to fabric processing, fabric types, structure and composition, Dying and printing methods in textiles, pattern making, garment construction and surface embellishment. The course also gives the students a deep understanding of current fashion trends and technological development in textile field. It also touches the areas of apparel merchandising, Garment quality and cost control and Apparel marketing. Carrier opportunities for the students who complete this course find employment in various textile companies spanning across the country. In various textile & Apparel plants, eligible candidates are recruited in different levels such as, entrepreneurs, boutique owners, Designer, Design consultant, Merchandiser, Quality Controller, computerized pattern makers, Fabric sourcing. And also they have job opportunities in retail and branding as fashion stylists, Visual merchandisers etc.,

The Department of Garment Designing & Production (GDP) was set up with a vision to incite a number of brightest creative cum technical minds of the monarchy for a passion of innovation in technology ambitious by a firm understanding, appreciation and celebration of garmenting. The focus of the department is on the study, invention, and ingenious use of technologies to create effective, usable, enjoyable experiences with technology through interdisciplinary research in apparel design and product development methodology, behavioral and social sciences, and to understand the impact of technology on individuals, groups, and organizations. The department envisions producing successful graduates who will be capable of leading the changing scenarios of present and future through thought, innovation and values.

About the Course :

This is a three year degree programme specially designed to develop professionals to cater the needs of design research, product development and industrial engineering sectors of Apparel industry. The curriculum is designed that, the students undergoing this course gains in-depth knowledge about the techniques of apparel design process, production methodology and Quality management approaches. The curriculum includes subjects such as Fiber to fabric, Fabric analysis, manufacturing techniques, Apparel Industrial engineering techniques, Import and Export procedures etc. It also provides practical knowledge through laboratory classes in Pattern Making, Garment construction, Dyeing, Printing, Finishing, CAD, Apparel Testing and Quality Assurance.

Commerce with Garment Cost Accounting and Commerce with Computer Applications was established in the year 2009 & 2014 respectively to meet the challenges of today’s world and utilizes the new opportunities in the field of commerce, computer application skills and textiles. The course offers a program of study to meet the significant increase in demand for computer professionals with an accounting background and merchandisers with accounting knowledge in the field of textiles. The main aim of the department is to equip and enable the students to pursue professional courses like CA, ICWA, and ACS.

The curriculum is framed for gaining knowledge in the field of commerce, and commerce with computer application. The curriculum provides theoretical knowledge in financial accounting, cost accounting, management accounting, financial management, corporate accounting, marketing management, principles of management, entrepreneurial development Income tax, law papers and auditing etc., and practical knowledge in MS-Office, Tally, DBMS, C, C++, Visual basic, and HTML.

In addition to that, we are offering add-on courses like Tally ERP9, Tie & Dye, Logistics Management and Documentation.
