The Student Should:
a) continue to refine the goals from first placement;
b) demonstrate ability to plan, implement and evaluate a variety of transition techniques which will facilitate the children’s movement from one activity/routine to another;
c) demonstrate an increasing awareness for the importance of the emotional and physical environment;
d) encourage developmentally appropriate independence in children while fostering a positive self-esteem through positive techniques of guidance; and
e) foster a pleasant daily rapport with the parents, thus improving basic communication skills.

Different centres have different practices. Some centres will ask to see ALL documents while others may only request specific documents. It is your responsibility to be prepared and bring all documents with you.

TDSB Placements:
If you are completing your 2nd placement in a Toronto District School Board FDK classroom you will be required to submit your original criminal reference check back to Mothercraft College. Nafeeza will forward the PRCs to TDSB Head office on your behalf.

Checklist Summary Review – ExampleGeorgia exhibits an array of emergent gross motor skills. She executes multiple movements with adequate full body coordination. She is effectively able to walk with alternating feet however sometimes does not appear to look where she is going and will trip and fall. On a balance beam she appears unsteady as she walks slowly while stretching out both arms for balance. She is not yet able to walk on tip toes but can walk backwards on a flat surface. She also has the ability to pivot her body, spin around and walk in a circle with her peers while holding hands. She grasps the handle to walk up and down steep stairs and is able to do so without adult assistance. Georgia often engages in running and can make swift changes in speed. She is able to progress from one movement to the next such as spinning around, jumping, walking, then hopping around. She is able to run up to and kick a ball as well as catch a larger sized ball in her arms at close proximity (within a meter). During outdoor play she demonstrates a preference for the tricycle. She leans far forward on the bike and uses her feet to walk and drag her body weight and the bike along. Seldom she will attempt to place her feet on the pedals but does not follow through with action to pedal. When music is playing she will sometimes bop her body to the beat engaging different parts of her body and use props such as streamers to accompany her movements.

Theory and Connection - Example
John Dewey’s (1900’s) pragmatic view point to education led him to create the approach of Progressive Education. This method stresses the need to learn by doing, therefore promoting a hands-on approach to learning. He viewed both the teacher and child as teachers that learn from each other. His interdisciplinary approach allows children to gain knowledge through a wider array of pathways. This is done by allowing them to acquire knowledge in possibly unconventional, more creative ways driven by their interests. Georgia is proving to gain gross motor skills by engaging in the activities she is motivated to engage in. For example, when she is asked to perform certain physical motions such as jump like a frog, she may not do it, but instead prefers to hop like a bunny. When she engages in activities she is driven to do, she will push her limits independently. Although she sometimes stumbles and falls, she is clearly learning from her mistakes through determined repetitive attempts.

How Does Learning Happen? - DocumentationDocumentation is a tool to make children's learning visible. It can help practitioners gain greater insight into children's thinking throughout everyday experiences. It is also used to reflect children's thinking, to help them generate new ideas, learning, and discoveries. Documentation becomes pedagogical when it helps to inform our reflective practice in teaching and learning. Documentation allows us to gather, share, and discuss evidence of development and learning with parents, children and other practitioners.

SOME FINAL ADVICE…
- When responding to feedback, be mindful of your body language, voice and tone
- Refrain from using cell phones or any other devices while on the floor (leave your cell phone in your bag)
- Call if you are running late
- Be mindful of your break times (ensuring that your leave on time and return on time)
- Dress appropriately
- Make sure you have indoor/outdoor shoes
