BBC editorial guidelines

Truth and Accuracy

Effects: Made up facts and figures it would

lead my documentary to be unsuccessful.

Filming experts and they don’t give me the statistics accurately then I would mislead my audience and they would not trust it.

Children

Effects: I will have footage of accidents this

will be unsuitable for children.

If I was to film an expert and they use strong language that would lead children to use it. This would affect my documentary.

OFCOM’s Regulations

Criminality

The effects: I will show young people driving without insurance.

Bad example to young people.

Must make sure I don’t film criminal activities such as people stealing cars.

Reconstructions

The effects: I will not be able to demonstrate to the audience information

which has not happened.

Must ensure that I do not pretend someone else is an expert.

Filming experts must consider that they don’t make up what has happened.

The Market

Distribution and Exhibition I would broadcast my documentary on weekdays because this where other BBC three programmes are on and programmes which are related to my topic such as Panorama is broadcasted on weekdays on BBC three. I have looked at three documentaries which have similar text to mine. The programmes which fit in my topic is Click, BBC news, Top gear. I would broadcast my documentary on a weekday that will be on Monday I will broadcast it at 9:30 pm this is because most of my audience watch other programmes after this time and there are not much interesting programmes at this time so it would encourage my audience to watch it. Unique selling point

The unique selling point of my idea is that it will have the cost of insurance and the affects of

insurance in Britain.

It will also have a lot of useful information that they need to know for example where they could get advice on car insurance.

Covers the important aspect of insurance cost.

My documentary targets a mainstream audience.
