ILLUSION
Dance magazine
By Steph Dennis
MY CLIENT THE NORTHERN ECHO
I have been commissioned by The
Northern Echo to produce a new
magazine or newspaper product.
Your product could be in any style
or genre but it must be self
financed through sales or
advertising. You must also produce
your magazine for a specified
audience segment within the 16-
25 age group.
To meet the standards I will need too...• Create a magazine that caters for my target audience.• Make sure it fits a gap in the market.• Make sure it makes a profit and not a loss.
My magazine will fit a gap in the market because the genre mixes dance and fashion and there is no
magazine on the market like this.
Audience
Research
Tribe – Trendies and Sports Junkies
Gender - Female
Age – 16-24
Location – North East
Socioeconomic status – A-C2
Target audience – Freestyle/disco dancers
Secondary audience
People that may read the magazine
and wouldn’t want to see
inappropriate content would be
parents, children and teachers.
I have to be aware of secondary
audience’s that may read my magazine
so the content has to be appropriate
for all.
•Using appropriate language
•No taboo language or subjects
•No content that is to shocking
•Varied content
Why I chose this genre...
I am passionate about this style of dance
No magazine on the market like this
I have a lot of knowledge I can present about it
It is for a niche audience so I can focus on specific sections
It brings two different genre’s together
Contents
Articles

“It’s all about the costume”

Expenses
Printing costs
Commercial viability
Total income after giving the distributors and retailers 25% each
comes to £2102.70
Total expenditure comes to £4780.60
after editorial personnel, equipment costs and the cost to print and produce the
magazine
Most of the income comes from
advertising and that comes to a total of
£8986.
If the total sales estimate were to be 4,000 copies and the sales income would be £10,000 I would get a total
income of £18,986.
DistributionMy magazine will need to be distributed in places that the target audience of the
magazine would be likely to go too.

Conclusion0The unique selling point
of this magazine is the fact that it is a magazine on freestyle dance and there is no magazine on
the market like this.
Varied topics• e.g. make up articles to getting fit for the perfect body article so it is relatable to more people and gains a wider audience.
Thank
You!
