Short film pitch for:

The brief: To create a short film that’s entirety lasts approximately 5 minutes, which may be live action or animated or a combination of both, together with two of the following options: A poster and either a radio trailer/film magazine review page.

The short film must have theme of or make reference to time and technology. It has to feature a box and a piece of jewellery. There must be one or more narrative concepts.

Our genre: Psychological thriller (sub genre)

Comparative texts: Maniac, Silence of The Lambs.

Distribution/ExhibitionIn distributing our film we intend to upload it to short film website , as it will give us a true insight into how our film has been received.

With regard to marketing our short, we intent to produce both a radio trailer and poster to give the audience a feel for the type of the film we will be creating.

Synopsis of

• In sub-urban England office worker Sarah, mother of one, is living her average home life, when she is faced with a threatening situation.

• Sarah starts receiving cards, texts and various gifts that unbeknown to the viewer, become to first signs of stalking.

• As time progresses and the plot unfolds, we see Sarah and her child’s life put in jeopardy when the stalker makes regular visits to the family home.

• In the closing scene we finally become aware that this is not any normal relationship. The scene reveals Sarah drugged and unconscious in bed, with her child crying hysterically, when the stalker is finally revealed.

Product Feasibility - Audience

• Our research has shown that the audience for psychological thriller tends to be made up more of women than men.

• They also appeal to an older audience (16+) as they usually contain some sort of mystery.

• They are also not suitable for very young audiences due to the fact that they may have scenes they will find disturbing .

Product Feasibility – Genre & Marketing

• From watching other short films with the same or similar genre to ours, such as ‘Call Back’ etc. we have seen that they often have similar narrative themes to ours.

• Looking at similar short films also showed that psychological thriller is a fairly successful genre.

• We have chosen to display our short film on ‘Short of the Week’, this seems to be a good choice as many short films gain popularity through this website.
