shall be connected to mains through pipe crosses with flanges on connecting ends of
laterals, and flanges and blinds on opposite sides.
e. Sufficient connections for steaming, blowing and draining shall be supplied on allsulfur lines.
f. All liquid sulfur lines shall be sloped to sulfur pit and shall be drainable.
2.3.15. Sour Service Piping (Supplement)
2.3.15.1. Scope
All sour service piping shall be designated with an S after the piping group
designation as shown in the piping material index. This Specification shall be used in conjunction with the General Specifications for
piping whenever the operating pressure is 345 kPa (50 psig) or greater and the gas or
liquid to be handled in the process piping system contains:
(a) Gas & Vapour Lines - 0.5 mol percent hydrogen
sulphide or 69 kPa (10 psi)
partial pressure H2S, or
whichever is less.
(b) Liquid Lines - A total acid gas (H2S and
CO2) mol percentage
equal to or greater than
5.0 mol percent.
Special consideration shall be given to high temperature process conditions as
determined by Designer.

a. All pipe material used in sour gas shall be in accordance with the applicable
piping material index unless an alternate is approved in writing by Andes
Petroleum Company.
b. All piping material used in sour service shall exhibit the following chemical
properties, in addition to the requirements of the piping material index:
i) %C+%Mn+%(Cr+Mo+V) = %(Ni+Cu) < .44
6 5 15
ii) %C < 0.26%
iii) %P < 0.04%iv) %S < 0.04%
v) %Si < 0.50%
vi) %Nb (columbium or niobium) < 0.11%
vii) %V (vanadium) < 0.06%
viii) %Ti (titanium) < 0.06%
ix) Rockwell hardness not to exceed HRC22 (includes weld, heat
affected zone and pipe).
x) The maximum yield strength < 551 MPa (80,000 psi) but, if
applicable, pipe between 368 MPa and 551 MPa shall be
subject to special property provisions of CSA code Z245.5.
2.3.15.3. Fittings
All fittings shall be manufactured in accordance with the grade shown on the piping
material index and the supplemental chemical properties shown in Section 2.3.15.2.2.
2.3.15.3.1. Identification
Flanges in sour service applications shall be fully identified in a permanent manner by
one of the following methods:
i) Hot stamping (with the part above 620C) with rounded die impression.
ii) Cold stamping with rounded die impression prior to a final heat treatment.
iii) Cold stamping with rounded die impressions on the outer rim of the flange.
2.3.15.4. Valves
a. All valves for sour gas or sour liquid service shall meet the latest NACE
Specification.

b. The use of O rings in valves, instruments and equipment intended for sour
service shall be minimized. If used, they shall be fabricated from Teflon or
Viton A.
2.3.15.5. Bolting
a. All special nuts and bolts to be used in sour service shall have distinct
permanent identifications of the material specified in the piping material
index.
b. Bolting of piping and equipment shall be by torque wrench or other approvedmethod which will ensure closure without cold working of bolts. Impact
tightening shall not be allowed except by special approval.
c.
2.3.15.6. Gaskets
All gaskets in sour service shall be flexitallic up to 600# ANSI and oval ring
900# and over. Salt water service shall be flexitallic gaskets. Gasket to have
an I.D. equal to the I.D. of Sch. 40 pipe.
2.3.15.7. Affidavits
Affidavits and mill test reports showing conformance to specifications
contained in this supplement shall be provided for all pipe, valves, fittings,
bolts, nuts and other materials supplied for sour service.
2.3.15.8. Piping Installation Sour Service
a. All pipe and fittings in sour service shall have 3.2mm (.125) corrosion
allowance added to the wall thickness unless otherwise specified. This shall
be added to the calculated allowable thickness.
b. No threaded connections shall be permitted in sour gas process piping, except
for secondary lines such as instrument leads, etc., downstream of block valves
which are flanged and connected by weld fittings to primary lines.
c. All welds on ANSI 300# class or higher in piping systems in sour service
shall be 100 percent stress relieved and x-rayed by the Contractor. In addition,
any welding on ANSI 600# sour piping shall be stress relieved, i.e. pipe shoes
secured to the pipe by welding, etc. The Rockwell hardness of weld, parent
metal and heat affected zones shall not exceed HRC 22. Affidavits of stress
relieving, x-ray film inspection and hardness test shall be supplied to theOwner.
