TUTORIAL
WHAT IS PINTEREST?• A site that people
and companies can use to organize and show off their favorite things on digital bulletin boards.
• Studies show Pinterest has been bringing in more traffic to websites than LinkedIn, Google+ and YouTube COMBINED!!
1. To showcase:• Products• Ideas they’re working on• A behind-the-scenes look at their
organization
2. To drive traffic to their websites
3. To sell items through Pinterest or link to e-commerce sites where the items can be purchased
How Are Companies Using Pinterest?
Board: How you organize your categories. • Example: Fashion, Healthy Food, DIY, Fitness
Pin: Individual photos you like/share. • Your board is made up of different pins
Repin: When you like a pin, you “repin” it to your board. It will now show up on your board as well. This is what Pinterest is all about!
Pinterest Homepage: Newsfeed filled with activity from all the accounts you follow.
• You can also click “Everything” to browse pins from broad categories from users you do not follow.
Pinterest Profile: Shows all of your boards.

• Invite only. • Pinterest or another user has to invite you
• Click “Edit Profile” under your profile name. • Select “Settings”• Change your account’s email address, email
notification settings, password, display name, company description, location, website and image. You can also go here to delete your account.
• Create boards on different topics• Keep them organized• Allows people to follow specific ones that interest
them
How To Set Up Pinterest
Click the “Add +” button on top of page. • “Add a Pin” or “+”– allows you to pin an image
from a website by using a URL
• “Upload a Pin” – will allow you to pin an image from your computer
• “Create a Board” – allows you to create a board to fill now or later
How To Add Pins To Your Profile
Step 1: Click “Add a Pin”
Step 2: Copy & Paste a website URL
Step 3: Click “Find Images”
Step 4: An image from a website should load. Click “Next” until you find the image you want to share. OR a page of pictures will pop up. Select the picture you would like to pin and click “pin it”.
Step 5: Select the board from the drop down you would like to assign this pin to. Note: The most recent board you pinned to will be the default.
Step 6: Describe your pin. Every pin must have a description. You have 500 characters (including spaces). Now would be a good time to include Keywords
Step 7: Click “Pin It”.
How To Add Pins From A Website
Step 1: Click “Upload a Pin”
Step 2: Click “Browse”
Step 3: Find an image on your computer, select it, and click “open”
Step 4: Describe your pin
Step 5: Click “Pin it”
How To Add Pins From Your Computer
• You can rearrange the order of your boards by clicking “Edit Profile” and dragging the boards into the order you’d like them to be in.
• You can edit the names of your boards by clicking on the image of the board and clicking “Edit”. You can changethe board’s title, description, assign contributors or edit the board’s categories.
• You can edit your individual pins by clicking on the pin and changing the description.
• Tip: After you have pinned someone else’s image, you can go back in and edit the destination URL to a place of your choosing.
How To Edit Your Pins And Boards
Use original pictures• Popular images are “repined”, “liked”
and commented on.
Pin other people’s content to build a wider following
• Look for other peoples pictures relating to your product or serviceExample: Chobani has their products, recipes including yogurt, health, fitness, etc.
Create Catalogs/add prices to pictures to turn it into a sale
Host Competitions• Ask them to use a unique hashtag or to
pin your picture on their boards and send you a link to that picture –you can search the hashtag and pick the best picture.
How To Attract Traffic To Your Website
Use the Browser Extension• Drag and drop Pinterest’s Chrome browser extension
onto your Bookmarks bar. Every time you come across something you like on the internet, you can “pin it”.
Connect to your other social accounts• You can connect Twitter, Facebook and your personal
websites• The account widgets show up below your profile bio and
you can share your pins across all social networks.
Adding Contributors• You can allow other users to have access to your board
and add pins to it (Note: have to be following at least one of that user’s boards first).
Backlinking• After you have pinned someone else’s image, you can
go back in and edit the destination URL to a place of your choosing.
Tips & Tricks
Mentions• Just like twitter, you can mention other
users by typing “@” in front of their user names. The user will receive a notification and will see the pin and your comment
Prices on pins• Add a “$” to the Pin description and
Pinterest will automatically add a price banner to the photo.
• The pin will appear in the Gifts category
• Make sure you link the website to your Pin so fans can click on your picture and buy the product straight from your site
Mobile Pins• You can take a picture with your
iPhone and add a location to your pin.

Search Pins by Site• You can type in any website to see all the pins that
have originated from that website. • Example: To see all the pins that have originated
from Nordstrom.com, type in: pinterest.com/source/nordstrom.com
Provide “Pin It” buttons throughout your website • Especially on these locations!

• “Pin it to Win it” Contests are a GREAT way to help you go viral
• UncommonGoods Example:• Entrants had to create a Pinterest board titled
“UncommonGoods Backyard Party”• Had to pin images to the board that matched
20 topics listed in the contest rules (could pin more than 20 pins)
• Had to pin the image of the contest rules to the board
• Pinner with the best board won a gift certificate• UncommonGoods announced the contest in a
blog post, a pinned image on the network and via email.
• Helped the company go viral and reached people who did not follow UncommonGoods

Plan• Create a content strategy that relates to the lifestyle of
your target audience. Don’t ONLY pin your products and information
Set Goals• Do you want to build brand awareness? Drive traffic to
your website?
Position • Your brand should align with popular and timely
conversations• Example: If you are a home improvement company, you
should pin “Is Your Kitchen Ready for Thanksgiving?” around the holidays
Optimize• Use keywords in your pin descriptions
