The Village Chapel An Enduring Vision of Christian Unity

“It is believed by many that the influence of the Chapel is far reaching and that its message

going out Sunday by Sunday to its world congregation, will have great effect in uniting the

Christian forces of the land into a fellowship and a brotherhood unit until it can be said

again as it was said of old: ‘See how these Christians love one another.’” The Rev’d William B.

Hannon, “The Pinehurst Outlook,” November, 1924.

As The Village Chapel begins its second century of worship and service to God, we are

emboldened by our founding principles of Christian unity and community service, which

were inspired by the words and example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; through His

death and resurrection; the Great Commission; and His prayer for unity “that we all may

be one.”

Located in the center and present at the inception of a community of religious expression

- and seeking to be in harmony with the fellowship that has been a basic principle in the

Village of Pinehurst - The Village Chapel offers a unique and gracious vision to its members

and the community beyond: The actual reality of a church that is thankful for, dependent

on, and inspired by the saving grace of Jesus Christ; a church that is welcoming, prayerful,

and pre-eminent in the life of our community; and a church that—without regard for

religious divisions within the Body of Christ—will always proclaim in thought, word, and

deed the Good News that we are all united in Jesus Christ!

“This Chapel will always stand for Christian Unity. Anyone who reads the 17th Chapter of

St. John will believe that we are carrying out the desires of Jesus Christ. We believe that

there is a deep blessedness in Christian fellowship. In whatever household of faith you were

born, whatever creed you now profess, you can come to this sanctuary and feel at home in

your Father’s house. Our constant prayers rise to the throne of God for our nation in these

days that call for sacrifice, courage and faith. We cordially invite you to worship with us.”

The Village Chapel’s welcoming statement, 1924.

If you are visiting us via livestream this morning, we welcome you to The Village Chapel

and hope that you will join us again soon, in person, when we are once again able to open

our doors to worship together.

Sermon Rev. Vickie Smith

Apostles’ Creed (People) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into hell; the third day, He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence, He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Dear Village Chapel family,

These are times calling for us to be brave and reasonable in our response to circumstances not entirely within our control, i.e. the coronavirus. While mindful of sensible precautions, let’s remember past times when “we the people” were tempted to panic, and yet not yielding to fear, but rather embracing the courage of the Christian saints and American patriots that have given us this blessed nation - not only to defend and preserve – but to nourish for those succeeding us.

As an example to others, can we at least refuse to panic, and be guided instead by the love that casts out all fear (I John 4: 18) – the love that emboldens us to trust, that God will honor our faithful obedience to the Christian commitment that defines who we are.

And yet, the reality of our national response to this virus has created an atmosphere of interference, that can distract from our ability at The Village Chapel to worship together as a congregation.

Therefore, until further notice our Sunday morning worship will be broadcast to you, at 10:00 a.m., while our congregational worship together will be cancelled. Here is the link to view our services: https://tvcpinehurst.com.

For a tutorial video prepared by Stephen, go to this link: (Also has been sent by eblast) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSShWDL5DMg&feature=youtu.be

Adult, youth, and children’s Sunday school are cancelled until further notice. This includes children and youth activities: Parents Night Out, and Vacation Bible School. Sunday nights Youth Group is meeting via Zoom.

The Men’s Thursday Bible Study, now open to anyone, is meeting at 4 p.m. on Thursdays via Zoom and is studying the book of James. For more information on how to connect, please contact Pastor Ashley at 910-992-8308. Questions for each weekly study and links to connect via Zoom, are sent out by eblast each week.

The office is closed, and staff are working from home, where they are able to respond to emails and phone calls that come into the office. Arrangements can be made for an appointment if needed with staff by phone or email.

Remember that Pastor John, Pastor Ashley, and Pastor Vickie are available and can be reached on their cell phones, or by email, all listed on the last page of this bulletin.

Please remember that our Chapel is dependent upon your offerings during this time when the congregation may not be meeting. You may continue to give by mail, by dropping off in the church mailbox (it is secure) located at the beginning of the drive in back of the church, or online through our website. May we be strengthened in all health and goodness by the power of the Holy Spirit. Pastor John
