    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Safe Summer Surfing
    Students who attend traditional-calendar schools are out for the summer. For some youngsters, summertimecan mean spending more time online, playing games or using social networks like Facebook. Kids may also usethe computer to stay connected with their classmates.
    Its a good time of year to remind young people, especially those who are relatively new to the online world, of some good safety tips:
    Dont click on links you get in unsolicited emails. Dont click on links in an email from a friend if the message looks
    suspicious or if it isnt the kind of message you usually get from thatperson.
    Dont click online ads that offer deals that sound too good to be true. Use online privacy features on social networking sites. But remember that
    nothing you post online is truly private, no matter what your privacysettings are.
    Tell a trusted adult if anything happens online that makes youuncomfortable.
    And parents, dont over-react if your child voluntarily tells you about something that happened to them online.Deal with the situation, but dont punish your child by taking away their online access. The most important thingis that they came to talk to you about it.
    Visit our website for more information about keeping kids safe online .
    Keep vacation plans to yourself online!
    Summertime is vacation time for many families. As much as youre looking forward to that upcoming trip, think twice before you broadcast your travel plans via social media.
    People who are active on sites such as Facebook and Twitter sometimes post messages detailing when and wherethey plan to vacation. Or, they may post to let their online friends and followers know they will be offline duringa family vacation. Some people even post while theyre on vacation, sharing photos or updates from their trip.In each case, the result can be the same: You could return home to find that someone broke into your residencewhile you were away.
    Dont let anyone in your family advertise your vacation plans.
    If you want to share your vacation plans with a small circle of trusted friends and family, use privacysettings to make sure that only they will see your posts.
    Or better yet, wait until you get back home to share your vacation news and photos online.
