PI-Autoconnector-en, Rev 00, Dec. 2013 PRODUCT INFORMATION Autoconnector The Bromma Autoconnect system enables significant improvements in safety and efficiency in the process of switching between spreaders in a crane. It is designed to be operated on a ship-to-shore harbour crane to enable a quick shift between spreaders. The spreader shift can be between a Bromma Tandem spreader and a regular ship-to-shore single lift or twinlift spreader, but the system also offers the same benefits with regards to safety and efficiency when switching between two regular spreaders. The Autoconnector distributes power and control signals to the spreader. The Autoconnector consists of an active headblock part with an electrically driven connecting actuator and a passive spreader part. Both parts are well protected from mechanical damage and designed for rough weather conditions. To avoid sparks, no current is active on the sockets until the autoconnector has completed the docking phase. All components can be easily assembled, adjusted, removed and are accessible for inspection and maintenance. The connector blocks are standard Harting® 24 pin Heavy Duty power con- nectors. MAJOR FEATURES Quickly shift between different types of spreaders in the crane headblock. Disconnect and connect a spreader to the headblock without manual work. Up to 3 connector blocks with 24 pins each available for signal and power connections. No risk of sparks. Autoconnector

The Bromma Autoconnect system enables significant

improvements in safety and efficiency in the process of

switching between spreaders in a crane. It is designed to be

operated on a ship-to-shore harbour crane to enable a quick

shift between spreaders. The spreader shift can be between a

Bromma Tandem spreader and a regular ship-to-shore single

lift or twinlift spreader, but the system also offers the same

benefits with regards to safety and efficiency when switching

between two regular spreaders.

The Autoconnector distributes power and control signals to

the spreader.

The Autoconnector consists of an active headblock part with an

electrically driven connecting actuator and a passive spreader

part. Both parts are well protected from mechanical damage

and designed for rough weather conditions.

To avoid sparks, no current is active on the sockets until the

autoconnector has completed the docking phase.

All components can be easily assembled, adjusted, removed and

are accessible for inspection and maintenance. The connector

blocks are standard Harting® 24 pin Heavy Duty power con-

nectors.

major features Quickly shift between different types of spreaders in

the crane headblock. Disconnect and connect a spreader to the headblock

without manual work. Up to 3 connector blocks with 24 pins each available

for signal and power connections.

No risk of sparks. No current on pins during docking

settings Protection class IP56 when connected and for spreader

The headblock part consists of an L-shaped frame with two vertical rails and attachments for the activator and the link-age. A carriage with an inner box is mounted on the rails. By running the activator, the carriage is lowered by the linkage to the connecting position. On its way downwards, the four cones on the carriage touches the wingshaped arms on the spreader part and forces the lower part cover to open.

The spreader part consists of a mounting plate with four springs. The spreader part housing is mounted on top of these springs. Up to three Harting® 24 pin connector blocks and two guide pins are placed inside the housing. The housing is covered on top by two spring loaded cover plates with wings. In closed position the assembly fulfill protection class IP56. When docking, the headblock part cones hit the wings and forces the cover halfs apart.

The two guide sleeves dock to the corresponding guide pins to ensure proper connection of the blocks. Both the connecting- and the top positions are contolled by sensors mounted on the headblock part.

The headblock part is protected from rain, snow, sand and grease by the top cover and the protecting skirt.

The two guide pins glides into the corresponding sleeves to finally ensure a proper docking of the connector blocks.

When connected, the autoconnect fulfills the IP56 enclosure rating.

When undocking, the spring loaded cover halfs are forced back to their sealing position.

The docking process takes around 30 seconds and consists of the following steps:

1. The headblock lands on a spreader guided by guide arms to proper locking position.2. The headblock twistlocks are turned into locked position.3. The actuator starts to lower the inner box housing. 4. The four cones on the inner box housing touches the spreader part box cover wings and forces the covers apart.5. The guide pins inside the spreader part box docks into sleeves inside the headblock part inner box to finally guide the Harting® connector blocks to join.6. The sensor in the Headblock part senses that the connec-tor box has reached the connected position and stops the ac-tuator.7. A low voltage signal is now sent trough one of the pins. The spreader electric wiring is strapped to another pin to re-turn the signal to verify that the connection is established. It can also be used to identify the spreader type. (Each spread-er type has its own return pin).8. Now the headblock control system knows the spreader type (single spreader or tandem spreader) and can make ad-justments on the headblock (sheave wheel position etc).9. Finally, the rest of the signals and power cords are acti-vated and the spreader can be taken into operation.

When disconnecting, first the current will be shut off. Then the actuator raises the inner box to its top position indi-cated by a sensor. Now it is possible to unlock the head-block twistlocks and when the headblock raises and the four cones releases the spreader part cover, it will close and seal the connector blocks in the spreader part.

Controller

The autoconnector is normally delivered with a controller to be placed inside the electric cabinet on the headblock. The controller is pre-programmed to run the autoconnect. It can be set to manual or automatic mode. In manual mode the crane driver can give commands for Lock /unlock on spreader, Connect/ disconnect Autoconnector to spreader, sheave wheels in or out. In auto mode only two commands can be given. Connect or disconnect.
