2 Types: physical and chemical
• Can be used to identify a substance
• Unique for each kind of matter
• Stay the same- do not change even though shape or amount of matter may change

• can be seen or measured without changing the identity of the substance
• Solubility- ability of substance to dissolve in certain substances
• Density- how close together are the particles? (amount of mass per unit volume).
