The Brief Outline The aim is to take a selection of photographs that will help

lead an article and recreate the tone and atmosphere of the subject matter, e.g. a dirty engine yard would have sharp edged, high contrast but low saturation images, giving the feel of a hard working and industrial atmosphere. The images need to create a sense of depth and size of the subject whilst portraying it to the best of its abilities. Regarding the cover image, it needs to stand out with saturated colours but also high contrast (refined edges) to show off solidarity and present a bold representation. HDR will most likely be used for such an image when in post production as this allows variable colour strengths to enhance the image, whilst maintaining depth and detail.

The Subject, Equipment and Weather

The subject will be heritage transport (locomotives) on large but also the locations they are situated in. This is largely still life photography with no posed shots, to capture the genuine working atmosphere of the locations. No personnel or models will need briefing subsequently as I am not aiming to “set up” a scene to photograph as it would loose its atmosphere.

Equipment wise, I will need a camera and most likely a tripod to stabilise the camera where photographs in low light or of moving subjects are required. The only flash to be used will be that of the camera but wont be likely used. An UV filter will be attached to the lens to cut out any unwanted colour flare (but not lens flare).

The Bowes Shoot will be shot on the 15th of October, for which the weather looks favourable. The other shoots have already been executed.
