UNIT 16 - PHOTOGRAPHY UNIT

BRIEFTo take part in a photoshoot and take 12-24 photographs

following one subject or genre

TYPE OF PHOTOGRAPHYI will be doing landscape I will be doing landscape photography as I will be taking taking photos of a graveyard and also photos

photos in the city which will include builds. I’ll also be

doing camera phone photography.photography.

EQUIPMENTFor my camera I shall be using the iPhone 4 which has a 5 megapixel camera which takes photos at a 4:3 aspect ratio.

LOCATIONThe location of my shoot will

be in city center in Cambridge, also at Mill Road Cemetery in City Center.

PEOPLEThe only people who will be in my photos will be people who happen to be in the area I

want to photograph

ESTIMATED TIMEThe bus journies to get into town will take about 2 hours, then 2 hours to take the pictures so about 4 hours

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONSIt may rain so I need to be It may rain so I need to be careful when moving around, also I need to watch out for traffic and make sure I don’t walk into someone/something, I must also take care as to not annoy anyone if they do not want to be in my photos, I want to be in my photos, I

will just calmly apologize and delete the image.

LEGAL + ETHICALAgain I need to take into Again I need to take into

consideration that some people don’t want to be photographed so I must keep that in mind

and try avoid taking photos of people as much as I can. I am allowed to take photos in Mill Road Cemetery so that will not Road Cemetery so that will not

be a problem.

BUDGETThe bus ticket will cost

around £5 for a return, this will be my only cost.

STRENGTHSThe blur looks really nice in The blur looks really nice in this image and makes the

bricks on the floor look like wooden panels giving it a nice abstract effect, there is good contrast in the image which is most visible with the umbrella

at the backat the back

WEAKNESSESThe blur in this image will not appeal to everyone, since it is blurred there is really no main focus to the image.

STRENGTHSIt has a nice leading lines

effect to it and good lighting. The image has good colour balance wich looks

natural.

WEAKNESSESThe image looks a bit to light The image looks a bit to light and could have used with a bit of editing to darken it a bit and add some contrast to it, the added contrast would

stengthen the overall effect.

STRENGTHSThe image is visually stunning and uses the rule of thirds effectivly, the black and white effect works well for

this image.

WEAKNESSESThe image could have used a The image could have used a bit more contrast to it, it might have been nice to blur out background elements in

Photoshop to bring more focus to the statue.

STRENGTHSIt has an old vintage/gothic feel to it, there is a nice gradient in the sky, the

background is covered up by twigs giving it a nice effect.

WEAKNESSESThe tree on the left has a The tree on the left has a weird glow to it, maybe a

result of editing to much. The sky looks a bit grainy,

possibly due to the quality of the camera, the image looks a

bit dark.

STRENGTHSIt is different and abstract, It is different and abstract, it stands out. There is an

obvious focus to the image as the main focus is centered

surrounded by negative space. The ground has a really nice

texture to it.

WEAKNESSESIt could have been cropped so It could have been cropped so the main focus would be bigger and more eye catching, it may have been nice if there was a

vignette over the image bringing more attention to the burnt pile in the center.
