After six and a half years of dating, Vimol orchestrated a surprise proposal that took place while the pair were on holiday in California. Prior to the trip, Vimol secretly visited Sharon’s boss to ensure she could take time off work and met with her parents to ask for their blessing before proposing. Although Sharon had no idea Vimol met with her employer, she knew her boyfriend chatted with her parents and had a hunch a proposal would take place on their holiday to the Golden State. On the flight to California, Sharon shared her proposal prediction with Vimol who laughed off the idea and successfully convinced her that he didn’t have enough funds to purchase a ring. “I had jokingly asked Sharon to marry me on multiple occasions and her answer was always ‘first, show me the ring,’” shares Vimol. e two were enjoying a romantic, private parasailing flight in Marina del Rey when Vimol popped the question. “We had just got down from our parachute when I turned to Sharon and asked her to marry me. She replied, ‘you know the answer to that question,’” Vimol says. “To my surprise, he then pulled out a box and got down on one knee,” recalls Sharon. Vimol presented her with a dazzling, 4.75kt diamond engagement ring from New York’s Liori Diamonds and the couple married exactly one year later on June 7, 2014. The couple’s traditional Christian ceremony took place at the White Rock Baptist Church in Surrey, BC. Neda Emami of Éclat Decor Inc. was commissioned to provide event design management and created a custom, white aisle runner with the couple’s name along with the date of the wedding. “It was very beautiful and emotional. We were overwhelmed by everyone’s love and support,” recalls Sharon.

p l a n n i n g Sharon and Vimol wanted their wedding day to exude timeless elegance. Nargess Tabrizy of Fleur de Lis Events provided full-service planning and design assistance, working closely with the couple to bring their dream celebration to life.

Judy Phan of Papier by Judy designed all of the wedding stationery and a custom monogram that was incorporated across the event decor. The monogram was designed to mirror a family crest and featured a shield design, ornate floral elements, and the initial “K” for the couple’s new family name. It is still being used by the pair today as they plan to embroider the monogram onto towels for their new home.

Sharon chose two gowns from Bisou Bridal for the wedding. She wore a fairytale-like Monique Lhuillier ball gown for the ceremony and reception dinner, and wore a form fitting evening gown by Elizabeth Fillmore for the dance portion of the night. Her jewellery for the day was designed by Elsa Corsi of Jeweliette, including her one-of-a-kind marquis crystal headpiece. Elsa Corsi also made a stunning jewellery box with the couple’s monogram etched on the top to store the wedding baubles. Her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker T-strap pumps in blush were purchased from Nordstrom. Racquel Lacson of Studio 26 styled the bride’s hair and makeup.

Bridesmaids wore different styles of blush pink dresses designed by Monique Lhuillier and Erin Fetherston. Vimol’s formal wear was designed by Vera Wang and purchased at Nordstrom.

The couple were transported from the church to the reception in a vintage, 1940s white Jaguar from Time Limousine.

Sunflower Florist produced the floral for the event including the bride’s bouquet made with peonies in soft shades of pink.

A grand reception followed in the ballroom of The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Event designer Neda Emami of Éclat Decor Inc. worked in conjunction with Fleur de Lis Events and Sunflower Florist to create a glamorous environment with French-inspired details. Round guest tables were set up in the space and covered with custom, blush-coloured linens. Guests sat on classic, gold Chiavari chairs with white chair pads from Pedersen’s Rentals. Tables were adorned with a mix of low and tall floral centrepieces composed of blush pink and white blooms. The centrepieces were housed in bronze pedestal bowls and candelabras.

The couple’s long head table was framed with floral arrangements filled with orchids and peonies that stood on tall, white pillars. The table was covered with a hand-embroidered overlay with metallic flowers from Éclat Decor Inc. Sunflower Florist created a series of gorgeous floral arrangements for the table, including a centrepiece that beautifully cascaded onto the floor. Table settings included gold leaf charger plates topped with French macaron wedding favors from Soirette. Gold candelabras and a runner of pillar candles added to the timeless, elegant feel of the table design. “It was the head table of my dreams. It was truly magnificent,” recalls Sharon.

“One of our favourite moments of the day was walking into the ballroom. I remember being struck by the romantic lighting, lavish florals, and grand designs.”

The couple worked closely with The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s Executive Chef Cameron Ballendine to create a menu that would honour their background and traditions. Guests enjoyed a selection of western and authentic Indian dishes, including a butter chicken created using a family recipe.

Comedian Sunee Dhaliwal had the entire ballroom rolling in laughter after dinner and everyone danced the night away to music from DJ Aimee Hawker of Girl on Wax. A photo booth from The Collective You produced black and white prints marked with the couple’s monogram for guests to take home as a keepsake of the event. Life Studios Inc. captured the day on film for the couple to cherish for years to come. Sharon and Vimol followed their wedding with a beachside honeymoon in Montego Bay, Jamaica. “Traveling together for the first time as husband and wife was not only romantic but truly special,” recalls Sharon.

Chris Hedlund of Berliosca Cake Boutique created the couple’s ornate, six-tier wedding cake. The pink and Tiffany blue-coloured cake was decorated with gold accents along with Sharon and Vimol’s custom monogram.

The couple’s monogram was also featured on a white, custom dance floor designed by Papier by Judy and produced by Éclat Decor Inc. “The monogrammed dance floor was our favourite design detail of the wedding. It was beyond anything I could have ever dreamt,” says Sharon.
