The DonSanders Collection derives a significant aspect of its identity from the desire to enjoy life’s beautyand support the working photographer as artist. out of this admiration and joie de vivre, DonSanders built an immaculate collection based on encouragement, deep friendship and mutualrespect for the photographer and photographic genre.

amassing approximately 10,000 photographs by 160 artists, The Don Sanders Collection setsthe standard in historical numbers as a modern archive of female nude photography worldwide.

The female nude as art spans history with the elegance of the form and figure inspiring centuriesof artist’s work in every culture. From the allusion to allegorical and classical figures of ourancient world, to transgressing to the absolute nude figure depicting the body in its own right.The female nude is therefore freed from the confines of the classical mindset and placed withina post 20th-century, conceptual psyche. albert rudomine, Jean-loup Sieff, and edwardWeston are viewed in contrast, yet adjacent to the liberated perspectives of robertMapplethorpe, David levinthal, nobuyoshi araki, and helmut newton.

Much like a temple, the collection is structured in overt display often taking the vieweremotionally off guard, and transporting them someplace otherworldly amongst amazon-likefemale prowess.

The collection’s depth is further edified through the pristine care the work has been given.housed in three hundred and fifty archival conservation files, each matted, and encapsulatedin archival mylar sleeves, the alphabetical archive is immaculate and preserved in an awe-inspiring gallery showroom in houston, Texas. The utmost care was taken in preserving thiswork for future generations.

it is exhaustive, yet most important to see is the overt respect for a quality. upon viewing thework, one can discern the detail and superiority of print Don Sanders procured. Many of theworks you see on the following pages were made exclusively by the artist and not printed en-mass. rather in a small, or a unique edition, and in many cases with the artist in directconversation. The collection’s value is insurmountable to other works in print today.

ESTIMATIONS ET PRIX DE RÉSERVELe prix de vente estimé figure à côté de chaque lot dans le catalogue, il necomprend ni les frais à la charge de l’acheteur, ni la TVA.Le prix de réserve est le prix minimum confidentiel arrêté avec le vendeur au-dessous duquel le bien ne sera pas vendu.

Le prix de réserve ne peut être supérieur à l’estimation basse figurant dansle catalogue ou annoncée publiquement par le commissaire-priseur habilitéet consignée au procès-verbal.

Dans le cas où un bien ne comporterait pas de prix de réserve, laresponsabilité de TAJAN ne serait pas engagée vis-à-vis du vendeur en casde vente du bien concerné à un prix inférieur à l’estimation basse publiéedans le catalogue de vente.

ENCHÈRESLes enchères peuvent être portées en personne ou par téléphone. Pour unebonne organisation des ventes, les enchérisseurs sont invités à se faireconnaître auprès de Tajan avant la vente, afin de permettre l’enregistrementde leurs données personnelles.

Pour enchérir en personne dans la salle, vous devrez vous faire enregistrer afind’obtenir un paddle numéroté avant que la vente aux enchères ne commence.Vous devrez présenter une pièce d’identité et des références bancaires.

Le paddle est utilisé pour indiquer vos enchères au Commissaire Priseurpendant la vente. Si vous voulez devenir l’acheteur d’un bien, assurez-vousque votre paddle est bien visible et que c’est bien votre numéro qui est cité.

Les enchères suivent l’ordre des numéros au catalogue. Tajan est libre de fixerl’ordre de progression des enchères et les enchérisseurs sont tenus de s’yconformer. Le plus offrant et dernier enchérisseur sera l’adjudicataire. En cas decontestation au moment des adjudications, c’est-à-dire s’il est établi que deuxou plusieurs enchérisseurs ont simultanément porté une enchère équivalente, etréclament en même temps cet objet après le prononcé du mot « adjugé », leditobjet sera immédiatement remis en vente au prix proposé par les enchérisseurset tous les amateurs présents pourront concourir à cette deuxième mise enadjudication. En portant une enchère, l’enchérisseur assume la responsabilitépersonnelle de régler le prix d’adjudication, augmenté des frais à la charge del’acheteur et de tous impôts ou taxes exigibles ; il en assume la pleineresponsabilité, à moins d’avoir préalablement fait enregistrer par Tajan un mandatrégulier précisant que l’enchère est réalisée au profit d’un tiers identifié.

Tous les biens vendus seront facturés au nom et à l’adresse figurant sur lebordereau d’enregistrement du paddle, aucune modification ne pourra être faite.

Dans l’hypothèse où un prix de réserve aurait été stipulé par le vendeur, Tajanse réserve le droit de porter des enchères pour le compte du vendeur jusqu’àce que le prix de réserve soit atteint.

Toute personne s’étant fait enregistrer auprès de Tajan dispose d’un droitd’accès et de rectification aux données nominatives fournies à Tajan dansles conditions de la loi informatique et Liberté du 6 janvier 1978 modifiée parla loi du 6 août 2004.

Les formulaires d’enregistrement sont obligatoires pour participer à la vente,pour la prise en compte et la gestion de l’adjudication. Vous pouvez connaîtreet faire rectifier les données vous concernant, ou vous opposer pour motiflégitime à leur traitement ultérieur, en adressant une demande écriteaccompagnée de la copie d’une pièce d’identité à TAJAN.

ORDRES D’ACHAT ET ENCHÈRES PAR TÉLÉPHONELes ordres d’achat se font par écrit à l’aide du formulaire prévu à cet effet enfin de catalogue.Ce formulaire doit être adressé à TAJAN au plus tard 2 jours ouvrés avant la vente,accompagné d’un RIB bancaire précisant les coordonnées de l’établissementbancaire et d’une copie de pièce d’identité de l’enchérisseur. Pour les achatsimportants, il pourra être demandé une lettre accréditive de la Banque.Dans le cas de plusieurs ordres d’achat identiques, le premier arrivé aura lapréférence.Les enchères par téléphone sont admises pour les clients qui ne peuvent sedéplacer. A cet effet, le client retournera à TAJAN le formulaire susvisé dansles mêmes conditions. Les enchères par téléphone ne sont recevables quepour les lots dont l’estimation basse est supérieure à 400 €.

CONDITIONS GÉNÉRALES DE VENTE

Le nombre de lignes téléphoniques étant limité, il est nécessaire de prendredes dispositions 2 jours ouvrés au moins avant la vente.Dans les deux cas, il s’agit d’un service gracieux rendu au client.TAJAN, ses agents ou ses préposés ne porteront aucune responsabilité encas d’erreur ou omission dans l’exécution des ordres reçus, comme en casde non exécution de ceux-ci.

CONVERSION DE DEVISESLa vente a lieu en euros. Un panneau convertisseur de devises est mis enplace lors de certaines ventes à la disposition des enchérisseurs. Lesinformations y figurant sont fournies à titre indicatif seulement. Des erreurspeuvent survenir dans l’utilisation de ce système et TAJAN ne pourra en aucuncas être tenu responsable pour des erreurs de conversion de devises. Seulesles informations fournies par le commissaire-priseur habilité en euros font foi.

FRAIS À LA CHARGE DE L’ACHETEURL’acheteur paiera au profit de TAJAN, en sus du prix d’adjudication « prix marteau», une commission d’achat de 25 % HT du prix d’adjudication jusqu’à 60 000 €,20 % de 60 001 € jusqu’à 1 200 000 € et de 12 % HT sur la tranche supérieureà 1 200000 € ; la TVA au taux de 20 % et de 5.5 % pour les livres étant en sus.

Les chèques et virements bancaires seront libellés en euros à l’ordre deTAJAN SA ; à votre choix sur l’une des deux banques ci-dessous : La caisse de laSociété TAJAN est ouverte aux jours ouvrables de 9h à 12h30 et de 14h à 17h30.T. +33 1 53 30 30 33 ou +33 1 53 30 30 27.

L’acheteur ne devient propriétaire du bien adjugé qu’à compter du règlementintégral et effectif à TAJAN du prix, des commissions et des frais afférents.Dès l’adjudication prononcée, les objets adjugés sont placés sous l’entièreresponsabilité de l’acquéreur.Il lui appartiendra de faire assurer les lots dès l’adjudication.

DÉFAUT DE PAIEMENTConformément à l’article 14 de la loi n° 2000-642 du 10 juillet 2000, à défautde paiement par l’adjudicataire, après mise en demeure restée infructueuse,le bien est remis en vente à la demande du vendeur sur folle enchère del’adjudicataire défaillant ; si le vendeur ne formule pas cette demande dansun délai de trois mois à compter de l’adjudication, la vente est résolue de pleindroit, sans préjudice de dommages et intérêts dus par l’adjudicataire défaillant.

TAJAN se réserve également le droit de procéder à toute compensation avecles sommes dues par l’adjudicataire défaillant.

TAJAN se réserve la possibilité d’exclure de ses ventes futures toutadjudicataire qui n’aurait pas respecté les présentes conditions générales devente et d’achat de TAJAN.

TAJAN est adhérent au Registre central de prévention des impayés desCommissaires priseurs auprès duquel les incidents de paiement sontsusceptibles d’inscription. DROIT DE PRÉEMPTION DE L’ÉTAT FRANÇAISL’Etat français dispose d’un droit de préemption sur certaines œuvres d’artmises en vente publique. L’exercice de ce droit au cours de la vente estconfirmé dans un délai de quinze jours à compter de la vente. Dans ce cas,l’Etat se substitue au dernier enchérisseur.

TAJAN is an auction house specialised in moveable property governed byFrench Act n° 2000-642 of July 10th 2000 and n° 2011-850 of July 20th 2011.Tajan acts as the seller’s agent. The auctioneer is not a party to the saleagreement, which is solely binding on the seller and the successful bidder.

GENERAL TERMSThese general terms and conditions of sale, the sale and all matters relatingthereto are governed by French law ; the sellers, buyers and their agentsaccept that the courts of Paris (France) alone shall have jurisdiction over anylegal action.

These general terms and conditions are independent.

Purchases must be made in cash and prices are stated in euros (€).

WARRANTIESThe seller warrants to Tajan and to the buyer that he/she is the undisputedowner of the items offered for sale or that he/she has been authorised by theundisputed owner, that the said items are not encumbered by any claim,dispute, attachment, reservation or pledge and that he/she can legally transferownership of these items.

The information included in the catalogue is prepared by Tajan with theassistance of the Expert, if necessary, with the care required for publicauctions, subject to the notices, declarations and amendments announced.upon presentation of the item and noted in the record of sale.

This information, including the dimensions set out in the catalogue, isprovided to help the potential buyer inspect items and must be assessedpersonally by him/her. If no information on restoration, an accident, retouchingor any other incident is provided in the catalogue, the condition reports orlabels or during a verbal announcement, this does not mean that the item isvoid of defects. Frames condition is not guaranteed.

Inasmuch as buyers are given the opportunity to examine works displayedprior to the sale, no claim may be made after the sale is complete.

Buyers may obtain a condition report on items included in the catalogue thatare estimated at more than €1000 upon request. The information containedin such reports is provided free of charge and solely to serve as an indication.It shall by no means incur the liability of Tajan.

In the event of a dispute concerning inter alia the authenticity or origin of itemssold, Tajan is bound by a best endeavours obligation; its liability may only beincurred if evidence is provided that it committed a wrongdoing.

SUMMARY OF DEFINITIONSAttributed to: means that the work mentioned was created during the artist’speriod of production and that it is highly likely or possible (though not certain)that he/she is the artist.Influenced by: the work is the painting of a contemporary artist of the artistmentioned who was highly influenced by the master’s work.Artist’s studio: the work was produced in the artist’s studio, but by studentsunder his/her supervision.In the style of: the work is no longer a period work.Follower of: the work was executed up to 50 years after the death of thementioned artist who greatly influenced the author.

ESTIMATES AND RESERVE PRICESThe estimated sale price appears beside each lot included in the catalogue.It does not include the buyer’s premium or VAT.

The reserve price is the minimum confidential price agreed with the seller. Ifthe reserve price is not met, the item will not be sold. The reserve price maynot exceed the lowest estimate set out in the catalogue or announced publiclyby the accredited auctioneer and noted in the auction house’s files.

If no reserve price is set, Tajan shall not incur any liability vis-à-vis the seller ifthe item concerned is sold at a price lower than the lowest estimate publishedin the sale catalogue.

BIDSTo bid in person, you will need to register for and collect a numbered paddlebefore the auction begins. We encourage new clients to register at least 48hours in advance. You will be asked for a proof of identity (bring a drivinglicence, a national identity card or a passport), for your address, telephonenumber and signature in order to create your account if you are a first timebidder. In addition, you may be asked to provide bank references.

All individuals who register with Tajan shall have the right to access and rectifythe personal data they provide to Tajan in accordance with the French DataProtection Act of 6 January 1978, as amended by the Act of 6 August 2004.

Informations collected on the registration form is required to participate in anauction and process the auction sale. You may exercise your right to access,rectify or oppose subsequent processing of your personal data, by submittinga written request to TAJAN along with a copy of your photo id

Auctions will be carried out following the order of the lot numbers as theyappear in the catalogue. Tajan is free to set the increment of each bid and allbidders must adhere to this process. The highest and last bidder will be thesuccessful bidder.

In the event of a dispute during the bidding process, that is, if two or morebidders simultaneously place the same bid, either orally or by a signal, andeach claim the item concerned when the auctioneer has declared the item“sold”, the said item will be re-auctioned immediately at the price offered bythe bidders and all those present may take part in this second auction.

Any individual who makes a bid during the sale shall be deemed to be doingso in his/her own name ; he/she shall assume full responsibility for his/herbid, unless he/she registered him/herself as an agent with Tajan andstipulated that the bid was being made for a designated third party.

In the event the seller sets a reserve price, Tajan reserves the right to proposebids on the seller’s behalf until such time as the reserve is met.

ABSENTEE BID FORMS AND TELEPHONE BIDSAbsentee bid forms may be submitted using the special form provided at theend of the catalogue.

This form must be sent to Tajan no later than two working days before thesale, together with a bank account identification slip (“RIB”) and a copy of thebidder’s proof of identity. For significant purchases, a buyer may be asked toprovide a bank letter of credit.If several absentee bid forms are submitted for the same item, the first orderreceived will take priority.

Telephone bids may be placed by clients who cannot attend the auction. Tothis end, the client must return the above-mentioned form to Tajan under thesame conditions. Telephone bidding can only be arranged for lots with saleestimates over €400.

As there are only a limited number of telephone lines, the necessaryarrangements must be made at least two working days before the auction.In both cases, this is a service graciously provided free of charge to the client.Tajan, its employees, agents and representatives shall not incur any liabilityin the event of an error or omission in the execution of orders received or thenon execution of orders.

CURRENCY CONVERSIONSales are carried out in euros. A currency conversion panel will be displayedat certain auctions. The currency rates shown are provided for informationpurposes only. Tajan shall under no circumstances be held liable for any errorsthat occur in the conversion of currencies. Information provided in euros bythe accredited auctioneer alone shall be valid.AMOUNTS PAYABLE BYTHE BUYERThe buyer must pay Tajan, in addition to the “hammer price”, commission of25% excl. tax of the sale price on the first € 60 000, 20 % excl. tax after € 60 001 and up to € 1 200 000, 12 % excl. tax for the portion above € 1 200 000. In addition, VAT shall be charged at the rate of 20 % (5.5 % for books).Items originating from a country outside the European Union shall be markedwith the symbol ƒ and ƒƒ.ƒ : In addition to the regular buyer’s premium, a commission of 5.5 % (i.e.,6.6 % inclusive of VAT) will be charged to the buyer.ƒƒ : In addition to the regular buyer’s premium, a commission of 20 % (i.e.24 %incl. PAYMENTPayment must be made immediately after the sale.If the successful bidder did not register before the sale, he/she must provideproof of identity and bank references.Payments may be made by one of the following methods :- Bank transfer in euros,- Visa card or Master Card (subject to the presentation of valid proof ofidentity).- In cash in euros : for individual european union resident, and for allprofessionals, to an equal or lower amount of €1 000.- In cash in euros: for individual only and non european union resident, to anequal or lower amount of €15 000. - Certified banker’s draft in euros subjectto the presentation of valid proof of identity.

Cheques and bank transfers must be denominated in euros and made outto the order of TAJAN SA ; you have the choice to pay on either banks :

Tajan’s payment department is open every working day from 9:00 AM to12:30 PM and from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.T. +33 1 53 30 30 33, or +33 1 53 30 30 27.Buyers may only take possession of items sold after Tajan has received fullpayment of the sale price and the related commission and costs.As soon as an item is pronounced “sold”, it shall be placed under thesoleresponsibility of the buyer.It shall be the buyer’s responsibility to insure the item purchased immediately.

NON-PAYMENTIn accordance with Article 14 of French Act no. 2000-642 of July 10th 2000,if the successful bidder fails to pay for an item after the issuance of a formaldemand that remains without effect, the item shall be re-auctioned at theseller’s request. If the price of the new bid is lower than the original falsebidder’s price, the false bidder shall pay the difference. If the seller does notmake such a request within three months of the auction, the sale shall becancelled by operation of law, without prejudice to the damages payable bythe false bidder.TAJAN adhere to the “Registre central de prévention des impayés desCommissaires priseurs” to which payment incidents may be reported.Debtors may exercise their rights of access, rectification and opposition.Tajan reserves the right to claim the following from the false bidder :- interest at the statutory rate,- the reimbursement of the additional costs incurred by reason of his/herdefault,- payment of the sale price or :- the difference between this price and the resale price if the latter is lower,as well as the costs incurred in relation with the re-auction.- the difference between this price and the original false bidder’s price if thelatter is lower, as well as the costs incurred by the re-auction.Tajan also reserves the right to offset any amounts which the false bidderowes to it.Tajan reserves the right to ban any bidder who fails to comply with its generalterms and conditions of sale from attending any future auction.

FRENCH STATE’S RIGHT OF PRE-EMPTIONThe French State has a right of pre-emption in respect of certain works of artoffered at auction. If the State wishes to exercise this right in respect of asale, it must express its intention to do so within 15 days of the sale. In thiscase, the State shall be substituted for the last highest bidder.

IMPORT AND EXPORTThe import and export of goods may be subject to authorisation (exportcertificates, customs authorisations). It is the buyer’s responsibility to checkwhich authorisations are required.

COLLECTION OF ITEMS PURCHASEDThe buyer may not take receipt of any lot until such time as he/she has paidall amounts due in full delivery of the goods.In the event of a payment by cheque or bank transfer, delivery of the goodsmay be deferred until such time as the payment has cleared.In this case, storage costs shall be borne by the buyer and Tajan shall incurno liability whatsoever in this respect.

COLLECTION OF UNSOLD ITEMSThe seller must collect any unsold items as soon as possible and in any casewithin 14 days of the auction.If the unsold items are not collected, the cost of storage shall be paid by theseller at the usual rate applicable in such matters.Tajan shall not be bound by any warranty vis-à-vis the seller in respect of suchstorage.
