1841 – Calotype Process
• •Introduced by Fox Talbot • •Later known as the "Talbotype” process• •This was a negative/positive process that only took a few minutes• The process involved much shorter exposure times in the camera
(one hour compared to one minute)• Because of this production became much more convenient which
allowed work to get out faster

1851 – Wet Plate Collodtion
• Introduced by English sculptor Fredrick Scott Archer• This process was done by spreading a mixture of collodion
and chemicals on sheets of glass• Being much simpler, this process quickly became popular• The wet plate process is also able to capture extremely
sharp detail making it the best, and most used option at the time

1861 – Color Separation Method• Introduced by Scottish physicist James Clerk-Maxwell• This method was achieved by using three black and white photographs• *Each photo must be taken using a colored filter*• After this, the photos were turned into lantern slides and projected in
registration with the same color filter• This was important because color separation allows viewers to focus on
sole parts of an image• The color separation brought greater detail to images thus making
peoples work more attrative

1888 – First Simplified Camera
• Introduced by George Eastman• The Kodak Number 1• First general camera open for the public• Also the first mass developing service• This was a huge milestone fortechnology everywhere

1889 – Film Rolls
• The first commercial transparent roll film put out by Eastman and his team was in 1889
• The availability of this made possible the development of Thomas Edison's motion picture camera in 1891
• This advance made development much easier and more convenient thus making workflow much faster
1963 – Color Film
• Company founded by Edwin H. Land in 1937• Developed by Polaroid • First color instant film (Instamatic)• Also was the first to introduce underwater photography
(Nikonos) • Color was new at the time so any pieces of work involvingIt often grabbed peoples attention

1980 - Camcorder
• Sony introduced the first camcorder for capturing moving picture
• The Betamovie BMC-100P used a Betamax cassette• Being able to record video allowed photojournalists
everywhere to bring their work to another level• This device paved the way for video recording of the
future

1984 – Digital Cameras
• Introduced by Canon • This device was the first digital still camera on the market• Allowed photojournalists to take images at the best
possible quality and easily upload to the computer if need be

2000 - Camera phone
• Introduced in Japan by Sharp/J-Phone• This allowed access to capture a moment at virtually
anytime• Images were able to be uploaded to computers• The above device also paved the way for camera phones of
the future• Today camera phones are one of the more popular ways of
capturing an image due to the veratility
