Photo Exhibition on the journey of Japan-India relations since the Meiji era
• Since as early as the ancient times, India and Japan have been strongly connected with
each other through historical bonds of culture and religion, especially Buddhism. Even in
the modern times, especially, since the Meiji era (1868~1912), the two countries have
maintained friendly relations that are over a hundred years old.
• The relationship between Japan and India is currently thriving more than ever before in all
areas, including political and economic, as well as people-to-people exchanges.
• The photos curated for this Exhibition include visits of the Maharaja of Baroda Princely
State and the Diwan of Mysore Princely State; Indo-Japan Commercial Museum in
Calcutta, PM Nehru’s gift of elephant to the children of Japan; visits of Emperor and
Empress of Japan, Prime Ministers of Japan and India, and events promoting people-to-
people exchanges, etc.
• This Photo Exhibition aims for even further deepening the ties between the two countries,
by glancing back at the journey of Japan - India relationship from the early 20th century to
the present day.
