Nickelback is a Canadian rock and alternative band. Nickelback is very creative as well as meaningful. The men that make up this band have been together for almost 20 years and they are consistently coming out with popular albums. Each album has something new and different to offer. The lyrics of these albums portray a message, which usually has to do with life experiences and words that provoke deep thinking. The general ideas of these messages will appear in every photo. Each photo that I took was inspired by lyrics that stuck out from multiple songs. Every song has a different meaning, yet all the songs can be combined into one big topic or question. The question of What If? Most of the pictures used in this essay come from ones I have taken and a few from Nickelback’s music videos. I received most of my inspiration from their music videos because they are so powerful. Nickelback has a way of putting words into actions and pictures very well. I did not in any way duplicate these videos but I made the picture taken relatable to everyday life. I also created the pictures to represent what a person could do to make his or her life the best life possible. In terms of photo organization, I arranged the photos to match a certain title or caption. The titles of these pictures really tell a story themselves, which is what Nickelback does with their songs. I start the essay off with a medium and upward photo; it is also an angled shot. I chose to take a picture upward to show looking up into the trees and looking into the sky to imagine what the world could be. I immediately jump into the main point of this essay by using a moment to moment scene and ask “If you saw this happen?” Followed by “If today was your last day, what would you do?” These questions set up the explanation of my photo essay.

I follow these questions up with answers that refer to living life with no regrets.

I end my photo essay with four pictures that lead into what Nickelback is about. The quote I use to explain this is something I see on campus on a regular basis. It is brought to us Whitworthians by GreenDot: “Nobody has to do everything, Everyone has to do something.” To display this quote I separated it into two slides with two pictures a piece. Each picture is from community building day. Those pictures represent that we all cannot do everything but we can each do something to make a difference. The final and most important photo is a giant smiley face in front of McMillan Hall and is titled “Don’t take anything for granted.” I chose to match this title with this picture because it shows that life should be happy and not be taken for granted. Nickelback is a band of many things, but these men make music to inspire and relate to others and life.
