Purdue University is an amazing college to be a part of and many people who have graduated from Purdue have become famous. Not only is Purdue well known, it is sometimes confused around the world as being an Ivy League Univer-sity. Once I made the choice to make Purdue Uni-versity my college choice I knew it was going to be a good one, especially for what I wanted to major in to start off my career.

BOILER UP!

Since I was seven years old, I knew what I wanted my career to be and in 8th grade I knew I wanted to take that career to Purdue University. The career I have always said I would pursue and have made my high school career revolve around was becoming a veteri-narian. I have always loved animals and people said you should love what you do, so it seemed perfect. I had heard of how great Purdue was in just about everyhad heard of how great Purdue was in just about everything, especially veterinary medicine, which made Purdue the “perfect” choice.

When I was in 8th grade I figured out that I wanted to go to Purdue University’s Vet School and I made my high school career about doing what I needed to get into vet school. During the summer before coming to Purdue I did some research and after going to my STAR date, I found out the exact requirements that I needed to com-plete during my 4years in undergrad studies at Purdue. Once I figured out what I needed I started to question all kinds of things.

Where I hoped I would be in about 4 years.

Once classes got started in fall 2010, I was excited to get into the college life. Once it started I realized that I felt like I was still in my high school classes and I didn’t like that. I had 19 credit hours and classes pretty much all day every day. I had homework all the time, I couldn’t find time for making friends, and most of all I was starting to hate college. Classes were not fun so I began to wonder if college was the choice for me.college was the choice for me.

LILY HALL FOR LIFE SCIENCES

One class I had was an Intro to Pre-Vet class in which we were given assignments about the tasks of veterinarians. A few papers centered on the time, effort, and your ability to complete the work to become a veterinarian. While writing one the papers about my professional goals, I had realized that they changed and I didn’t know what I wanted to do anymore. I thought about just heading in a different direc-tion as a vet, but once again I realized that maybe that tion as a vet, but once again I realized that maybe that wasn’t the answer.

During this time that I was questioning what I was going to do with the rest of my college career, my fiance was there by my side. I was unsure what my parents would think because they were with me all the way in becoming a vet and couldn’t wait to have “free vet care”. JR kept telling me that they would under-stand and be with any choice I made just like he was, but I was still unsure what I wanted to do.but I was still unsure what I wanted to do.

The greatest thing in the world is to have someone who will always be there for you!!!

After searching through all the majors that Purdue offered, I had a list of four tha tI liked the best. Ironically every single one I liked was in the College of Liberal Arts, which is a big change from the College of Agriculture. Once again I was worried about what other people would think, instead of what mattered to me. I went through the four majors many times to see how to narrow them down. The four I picked out were religious studies, photog-raphy, history, and dance. I had an interest in each of them raphy, history, and dance. I had an interest in each of them before, but I always just considered them a hobby and not a career.

HISTORY, PHOTOTGRAPHY, RELI-GIOUS STUDIES, OR DANCE?

After much consideration I finally decided what I wanted to do. It seemed to me that Photography was the best choice so I went for it. After registering for spring 2011 classes I was pumped to start off in a new year. So far all of the classes I have been taking for my photogra-phy major have been much more fun and exciting than regular boring high school classes. I am excited to see what else Photography will throw at me throughout my what else Photography will throw at me throughout my next few years here at Purdue!!
