Twenty–Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

We focus today on the image of the vineyard: God’s own people-loved, nurtured and cared for. But the lovely image carries a warning. God expects fruits from the vineyard-results from us. God wants us to grow and flourish. Both our actions and our inactions have consequences. What are we doing to be the fruitful people God wants? Joan DeMerchant

CEMETERY COVID-19 POLICY UPDATE

Effective July 2, 2020, the cemetery will be resuming cremation buri-

als. We ask that the amount of time spent at the cemetery after the service be no more than half an hour for the excavator to close the grave in a timely fashion. As well, the number of attendees is to be limited to 10 persons. We remind you to maintain physical distance of 6 feet and recommend the wearing of masks. The re-maining temporary policies will continue to be in effect, that is,

cemetery plots will only be sold on an as needed basis and the plots will be assigned. In the case of financial difficulty, due to loss of income during this time, clients can contact the cemetery to dis-cuss payment options. We thank you for your patience. ( Cemetery Board)

SUPPORT YOUR PARISH At a time like this it can be uncomfortable to talk about giving. Our primary concern is the health and well-being of our parish-ioners. However, these difficult circumstances show just how important the of-fertory is to the life of our par-ish. The reality is that our parish relies on the sacrificial giving of our parishioners to operate – par-ish salaries, programs and ongo-ing operating costs (heating, wa-ter, electricity, etc.) are funded through the generosity of our pa-rishioners. It will be a challenge for our parish to maintain opera-tions without the weekly offerto-ry collection. There are several ways that parishioners can con-tinue to support the parish at this time. Mail your regular weekly offertory contribution to the par-ish office or contribute through pre-authorized giving. PAG forms are available on our parish website. If you have any questions please contact the par-ish office. Thank you for your continued support.

WEEKDAY MASS SCHEDULE Livestream will still be available

Registration is not required, howev-er, we ask that you keep a log at home of the weekday masses you are currently attending. The Week-

THANK YOU We cannot thank our vol-unteers enough during this difficult time of Pan-demic. Returning to Mass has been not only stress-ful for those attending but also exhausting for our volunteers who have put in so much of their time and personal sacrifice. We could not do this without you and we pray that this unprecedented time will not go too far into the fu-ture. Your commitment and willingness to take personal risks is a sign of your generosity to re-spond to God’s call to serve your neighbour and be your brother/sister’s keeper. Thank you.

OFFERTORY COUNTERS NEEDED We are in need of more offertory counters. The commitment is for 4 to 5 hours each week on Mon-days. We are hoping to get enough volunteers so that your commitment is to take a turn to count on one Monday morning per month. Those interested please contact the parish office. Volunteer Screen-ing will be expected.

YOU LIKE TO VOLUNTEER? Please consider to volun-teer with the sanitizing or screening. for weekend and weekday masses, (must be 18+). Contact the parish office.

Prayer to our Lady

of Victory

O Queen of the most holy Rosary: with hearts full of confidence we earnestly beseech you to bless the efforts of the Family Ro-sary. From you came the grace to begin it. From

you must come the grace to win souls to it. We beg

you to bless us so that from every home the in-cense of this prayer will daily rise before you, O

admirable Mother.

Amen

The Month of October is dedicated by the Church to the Most Holy Rosary. We will pray the Rosary as a community before the weekend masses led by the Deacon and the Deacon’s wife. The rosary will start 20 mins before the Saturday 5pm and the 9am Sunday masses.

OCTOBER 7TH - FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY On October 7, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates the yearly feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Known for

several centuries by the alternate title of “Our Lady of Victory,” the feast day takes place in honor of a 16th century naval victory which secured Europe against Turkish invasion. Pope St. Pius V attributed the victory to the inter-cession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was invoked on the day of the battle through a campaign to pray the Rosary throughout Europe.

We will pray the rosary 30 mins before the noon mass on October 7th…….so plan to arrive early!!

Foods for this feast: Since the origin of this feast came from the Christian fleet defeat-ing the Turks at the Battle of Lepanto in 1570 through the intercession of Mary through the Rosary, why not make a cake in the shape of a ship?

THANKYOU FROM SHARELIFE One of the key mes-sages Jesus left us is to “love one another as I have loved you.”

Similarly, one of the core compo-nents of our archdiocesan Pasto-ral Plan is “Catholic Outreach in Justice and Love.” One way we carry out this outreach and ex-press love for neighbour is through our annual ShareLife ap-peal. Our generosity toward ShareLife agencies is one of the ways we can help transform the lives of the marginalized in our society. Thank you for your sup-port of ShareLife!

SUPPORTING SHARELIFE THROUGH PRE-AUTHORIZED GIVING

Pre-authorized giving (PAG) on a monthly basis is an easy way to spread your ShareLife contribu-tion over the course of a year. The ShareLife package you received by mail includes a response form with a PAG option. Simply submit a void cheque with the completed

form to the parish office or drop it in the offertory basket at any time. If you have any questions about pre-authorized giving con-tact ShareLife at [email protected] or 416-934-3411 Thank you for supporting ShareLife!

OFFICE FOR REFUGEES The Archdiocese Office for Refu-gees has a program to assist pa-rishioners who would like to sponsor a family member that is in need of refugee sponsorship. This program is intended to assist parishioners only. If you are a pa-rishioner, and would like to spon-sor a family member, please con-tact the parish office to schedule a meeting with the pastor prior to November 15, 2020. Thank you

LETTER FROM THE CARDINAL

Dear brothers and sisters,

Every year ShareLife gives us the opportunity to reach out with the hands of Christ to care for those who are most in need. This is what we're called to do as His disci-ples: to be with those at the side of the road who are suf-fering, just as the Good Sa-maritan did. This is what it means to be a Christian. At this time especially, in the midst of this pandemic, so many people are suffering greatly. There are people who are in great need of help for them as they struggle mental-ly and psychologically. Share-Life helps in that. For people lonely, isolated, for seniors who need help, ShareLife reaches out to them. There is a great deal of domestic vio-lence and the ShareLife agen-cies are there at this time of great need to bring the loving hand of Christ into the midst of situations of such suffering. In ShareLife we find the pres-ence of Christ in the midst of those who suffer. We are there with them because He is with us, sending us out to be with those who are in need. That's the purpose of Share-Life. Especially in this time of such great need in the midst of this pandemic, I ask you to, in a very particular way, be generous in supporting those in need during the ShareLife Sunday collection. May God bless you as you serve Our Lord by serving those who are in need.

Cardinal Thomas Collins Archbishop of Toronto

SHARELIFE SUNDAY Living the Gospel locally and around the world

“Last year, your generosity to ShareLife made a difference in the lives of over 140,000 people locally and countless more around the world. Thank you for helping so many people experience God's love and compassion.” – Cardinal Thomas Collins Next weekend, October 10/11, is ShareLife Sunday. From now through November 8, you can double the im-pact of your donation. A generous donor is matching gifts up to $500,000. Please give during the special collection or anytime using the ShareLife envelopes at the entrance of the church. You can also give securely online at share-life.org/donate. St. John’s goal this year is $106,000. which our parish takes on with courage. Our latest report indicates we are at 82% of our goal with a total of $86,448.40 collected. Thankyou for your generosity.
