Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mass Intentions The hand of the Lord feeds us. It feeds us, however, through the common efforts of others: note that Jesus, when feeding the five thousand, passed out the food in the hands of the disciple. He did this, moreover, right after telling them “Give them something to eat yourselves.” The problem in feeding the world’s population is not with the

productivity of God’s earth. The problem lies with our political lack of will, our economic system biased in favor of the affluent, our militarism, and our tendency to blame the victims of social tragedies like hunger.

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION This feast celebrates the special place that Mary has in the life of the Church. This place is first of all defined by her being chosen to be the mother of Jesus, his only human parent. This alone gives her a uniqueness which is shared by no other person who has ever lived. On Saturday, August 15, we will have a mass at 9am instead of a Communion Service and parish-ioners are welcome to attend. Please arrive 20-30 minutes before as we will only be able to accommodate no more than 70 people at this mass.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO VOLUNTEER? Please consider to volunteer with the sanitizing or

screening. for weekend and weekday masses, (must be 18+). Contact the parish office to leave your name, email and phone number.

CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE Turning Endings into New Beginnings.

As previously announced at all Sunday masses two weeks ago, at the end of August we will be welcom-ing Fr. Landorff Garcia as pastor and Fr. Rafal Bar-tosinski as associate pastor. Fr. Efren’s last week-

end will be August 22-23. Regrettably, we will not be able to have the oppor-tunity for a farewell. However, as we have done during this time of Pandem-ic, we can always find ways to breach the necessary physical distance and use what we have at our disposal to express our personal farewell to him as he leaves for his Sabbatical. You can always reach Fr. Efren via email at

NEW BEGINNINGS At Catholic Family Services of Toronto, we have a min-istry dedicated to assisting those who have suffered a

loss through separation, divorce, or the death of a loved one. This closed support group allows us to work to-gether to explore our grief, experi-ence healing, and renew our faith. Contact Arcangelo Limanni at (416) 921-1163, ext. 2225 or

OFFERTORY COUNTERS NEEDED We are in need of more offertory counters. The commitment is for 4 to 5 hours each week on Mon-

days. We are hoping to get enough volunteers so that your commitment is to take a turn to count on one Monday morning per month. Those interested please contact the parish office. Volunteer Screening will be expected.

ST. JOHN’S CEMETERY (and Catholic Cemeteries)

Due to current protocols surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the St. John’s Cemetery Annual Mass for the Faithful Departed has been cancelled this year. All Catho-lic Cemeteries have also canalled their Annual Masses and Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of To-ronto, will celebrate Mass via livestream on Wednesday, August 12 at 7pm from St. Michael’s Cathe-dral Basilica at:

www.stmichaelscatherdral.com/live.

SUPPORT YOUR PARISH At a time like this it can be uncom-fortable to talk about giving. Our pri-mary concern is the health and well-being of our parishioners. However, these difficult circumstances show just how important the offertory is to the life of our parish. The reality is that our parish relies on the sacrifi-cial giving of our parishioners to op-erate – parish salaries, programs and ongoing operating costs (heating, water, electricity, etc.) are funded through the generosity of our parish-ioners. It will be a challenge for our parish to maintain operations with-out the weekly offertory collection. There are several ways that parish-ioners can continue to support the parish at this time. Mail your regular weekly offertory contribution to the parish office or contribute through pre-authorized giving. PAG forms are available on our parish website. If you have any questions please contact the parish office.

SUNDAY MASS SCHEDULE Saturday 5pm

Sunday 9am & 12 noon Sunday 3pm (Spanish)

The Eventbrite link to register is on the parish website. Click on: “Register for Mass” and complete the registra-tion. Each person in your household, who will be attending needs to be registered individually.

At this time, we regret that attendance is limited to 7yrs or older.

If you do not have access to the internet, please call the office, be-fore 5 pm on Thursdays and we will register for you.

Capacity is limited to 70 people in the pews.

Volunteers are not required to register as they will not be occu-pying the pews.

We ask parishioners to self-assess before coming to all masses. Simp-ly copy and paste the link below, into your browser, for complete self-assessment information.

https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/

As of July 17, face masks are man-datory.

For your safety, washrooms are closed till further notice.

It is important that you arrive 30 minutes or more before mass be-gins so our volunteers have time to welcome, screen and direct you to your seat. Entrance doors will be locked when mass starts and you will have to register for an-other mass if you arrive late.

Anyone with mobility issues will be moved to the front of the line so they can be seated in pews des-ignated for them.

Seating is not optional and will be assigned in sequence to ensure safe distancing. Parishioners are asked to remain in the seat as-signed to them during the mass to respect the safety of others.

CEMETERY COVID-19 POLICY UPDATE Effective July 2, 2020, the ceme-tery will be re-suming cremation burials. We ask that the amount of time spent at the cemetery after the service be no more than half an hour for the exca-vator to close the grave in a timely fashion. As well, the number of at-tendees is to be limited to 10 per-sons. We remind you to maintain physical distance of 6 feet and rec-ommend the wearing of masks. The remaining temporary policies will continue to be in effect, that is, ceme-tery plots will only be sold on an as needed basis and the plots will be assigned. In the case of financial dif-ficulty, due to loss of income during this time, clients can contact the cemetery to discuss payment op-tions. We thank you for your pa-tience. ( Cemetery Board)

MASKS ARE MANDATORY

As you may have heard in recent days, a new by-law has been passed

that makes the use of masks or face coverings inside all public places mandatory. This includes churches and our own parish. I would ask that all those coming to church bring a mask or face covering and wear it upon entering the church. York Re-gion – by-law passed. A mask/face covering is required in public indoor spaces, including places of worship as of Friday, July 17, 2020.

Register for Mass

THANK YOU We cannot thank our volunteers enough during this difficult time of Pandemic. Returning to Mass has been not only stressful for those attending but also exhausting for our volunteers who have put in so much of their time and personal sacrifice. We could not do this without you and we pray that this unprecedented time will not go too far into the future. Your commitment and willingness to take personal risks is a sign of your generosity to respond to God’s call to serve your neighbour and be your brother/sister’s keeper. Thank you.

12NOON MASS CANCELLED

Given the unexpected low attendance to the 12pm mass and the lack of volun-teers, we have decided to temporarily cancel this mass for the remainder of the Summer. Please make every effort to attend either the 5:00pm mass on Saturday or the 9am Mass on Sunday. Both can easily accommodate more attendants. We may bring it back in the fall when every-one returns from the Sum-mer.
