We all know it’s good for us, but sometimes it’s just hard to do. Maybe the grandkids are in for a visit, or you’re out of town on vacation, or the pain in your hip makes driving or walking to the gym too difficult, or maybe, because of COVID, you pre- fer to stay home. Whatever the reasons, the Phoebe Needles Center, Inc. has the program for you! Active Seniors is a light exercise class for seniors who would like to work on devel- oping strength, mobility and flexibility at their own pace. Participants are able to use a chair during exercises, as well as to opt out of any exercise they may not feel comfortable participating in. The best part? It is hosted via Zoom Meetings, so seniors can participate from anywhere, without having to hit the gym. All you need is a cell phone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection and you’re ready to go. You’ll be joining a great community of people representing several different areas of Virginia as well as other states, and the program is FREE! Current participants join in from Fer- rum to Lexington to Alexandria in Virginia, as well as the states of Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina. The camaraderie and support among participants is energizing, and they look forward to joining in each day. It’s more than just an exercise class - it’s a bright spot in everyone’s day. The only thing that is missing is YOU! Please join us on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. as we host our Active Seniors Exercise Class via Zoom. Active Seniors @ Phoebe Needles: More than ‘Just an Exercise Class’

Exercise! We all know it’s good for us, but sometimes it’s just hard to do. Maybe the grandkids are in for a visit, or you’re out of town on vacation, or the pain in your hip makes driving or walking to the gym too difficult, or maybe, because of COVID, you pre-fer to stay home. Whatever the reasons, the Phoebe Needles Center, Inc. has the program for you!

Active Seniors is a light exercise class for seniors who would like to work on devel-oping strength, mobility and flexibility at their own pace. Participants are able to use a chair during exercises, as well as to opt out of any exercise they may not feel comfortable

participating in.

Current participants join in from Fer-

rum to Lexington to Alexandria in Virginia, as well as the states of Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina. The camaraderie and support among participants is energizing, and they look forward to joining in each day. It’s more than just an exercise class - it’s a bright spot in everyone’s day. Hellos and Goodbyes...

On July 31, the Center hosted Kerosene Willy featuring David “Chopper” Campbell, Gary Bowl-ing, Brian Jones, and Jerry Wood for the summer installment of its Music in the Mountains series. The event coincided with Ferrum College’s faculty and staff social which was also held at the center. The concert was free to all. Donations collected dur-ing the concert went to support the summer camp fund to supply scholarships and buy needed camp supplies. -- It was a beautiful day, and attendees were able to spread out on the grounds to maintain proper social distances.

Goodbye to Arlet Greer, who retired from Phoebe Needles as Office Manager in June. Many thanks to Arlet for her 20 years of dedicated service and leadership.

Hello to Stacey Sink, who took Arlet’s position as Office Manager just in time for our 2021 Camp Season. Stacey is a Callaway na-tive and is exctied to be part of the PNC family!

Goodbye to Ora Hodges, who left her duties as PNCI’s bookkeep-er on August 31 after 17 years. Ora’s expertise was appreciated, and she will be missed!

Hello to Janet Schofield, PNCI’s new bookkeeper! Janet has many years of accounting and bookkeeping experience, as well as non-profit experience. We are glad to have her as part of our team!

Goodbye to Matthew Perry, PNCI’s Director of Programs. Matt has been a friend of PNCI for quite awhile, starting out as camper, then transitioning to counselor before taking on his director role. He left PNCI in late August to continue his education. We miss his smile and can-do attitude, but we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Goodbye to Paige Arrington after 5 years as PNCI’s Administra-tive Assistant. Paige left PNCI in late June to continue her educa-tion. We miss Paige’s social media savviness and wish her much success in her future!

Goodbye to Dr. Bob Strong, who is leaving the PNCI Board of Directors and his post as Vice President at the end of 2021. Many thanks to Bob for his dedicated service of more than 20 years.

Goodbye to Martha Perry, who left the PNCI Board after 16 years due to her move to North Carolina. Martha is an active friend of PNCI and we know she’ll stay engaged with us as much as possible. Still, she is missed!
