1 Important

Take time to read this user manual before youuse your CD645. It contains importantinformation and notes regarding your phone.

1.1 Power requirements• This product requires an electrical supply of

220-240 volts AC. In case of power failure, thecommunication can be lost.

• The Electrical network is classified ashazardous.The only way to power down thecharger is to unplug the power supply fromthe electrical outlet. Ensure that theelectrical outlet is always easily accessible.

Warning• Do not allow the charging contacts or the

battery to come into contact with metalobjects.

• Do not allow the charger to come intocontact with liquids.

• Never use any other battery than the onedelivered with the product or recommendedby Philips: risk of explosion.

• Always use the cables provided with theproduct.

• Handsfree activation could suddenly increasethe volume in the earpiece to a very highlevel: make sure the handset is not too closeto your ear.

• This equipment is not designed to makeemergency calls when the power fails.Analternative has to be made available to allowemergency calls.

1.4 Using GAP standard complianceThe GAP standard guarantees that all DECT™GAP handsets and base stations comply with aminimum operating standard irrespective oftheir mark.Your CD640/645 handset and basestation are GAP compliant, which means theminimum guaranteed functions are: register ahandset, take the line, receive a call and dial.Theadvanced features may not be available if youuse another handset than a CD640/645 withyour base station.To register and use your CD640/645 handsetswith a GAP standard base station of a differentmake, first follow the procedure described inthe manufacturer’s instructions, then follow theprocedure described in Section 5.8.6.To register a handset of another make to theCD640/645 base station, place the base stationinto registration mode (Section 5.8.6), thenfollow the procedure in the manufacturer’sinstructions.

Connect the other end of the line cord tothe telephone line socket and the other endof the power cable to the electricity socket.

NoteThe line adaptor may not be attached to theline cord. In this case, you have to connect theline adaptor to the line cord first beforeplugging the line cord to the line socket.

3.2 Install rechargeable batteriesYour CD645 is supplied with two rechargeablebatteries. Before using the handset, install thebatteries into the handset and fully chargedthem up.

Slide out the battery cover

Place the batteries as indicated in thebattery compartment and replace thebattery cover.

3.3 Place the handset on the chargingcradle

NoteCharge the handset for at least 24 hours beforeusing it for the first time.When the battery is fully charged, the talk timeof your phone is approximately 12 hours andthe standby time is approximately 150 hours.

Place the handset on the charging cradle ofthe base station.

3 Getting started

3.1 Connect the base stationCaution

Avoid placing the base station too close to largemetal objects such as filing cabinets, radiators orelectrical appliances.This can impair the rangeand sound quality. Buildings with thick internaland external walls may impair transmission ofsignals to and from the base.

WarningPower is applied when the power adaptor isplugged into the unit and connected to theelectricity socket.The only way to power downthe unit is to unplug the power adaptor fromthe electricity socket.Therefore, ensure thatthe electricity socket is easily accessible.

The power adaptor and the telephone line cordhave to be connected correctly, as incorrectconnection could damage the unit.Always use the telephone line cord suppliedwith the unit. Otherwise, you may not get a dialtone.

Leave it there until the batteries are fullycharged.When the handset is fully charged, isdisplayed.

3.4 Configure your phoneDepending on your country, the Welcomescreen may not appear. In that case, you do notneed to select the country code to configureyour phone.Before using your phone, you need to configureit according to the country of use.Aftercharging it for a few minutes, the Welcomescreen appears. Follow these steps to configureyour phone:

Press to display the list of countries• Available country will display on the screen.

NoteIf is pressed, the handset will show theWelcome screen again.

Press / to scroll to your country

Press to confirm your selection• Your phone is configured according to your

selected country and back to idle screen.Note

Once the country is selected, the default linesettings for the selected country will be appliedto your phone automatically.

TipIf you chose the country in use wrongly orwould like to change the country after the firstconfiguration, you can press in idle mode toenter into the SMS main menu, input ##**793to reset to default settings. After around 30seconds, the phone will go back to Welcomescreen and you can select the country again.

3.5 How to power off or on thehandset power

You can power off your handset in order tosave battery power.

4.3 Answer a call in handsfree modeWhen the phone rings, press .

• The call is established and is on.You cantalk to the caller without holding the handset.

WarningWhen the handset rings during an incoming call,please do not hold the handset too close toyour ear as the volume of the ringing tone maydamage your hearing.

NoteIncoming call has priority over other events.Whenever there is an incoming call, other statusin progress such as phone settings, menunavigation, etc will be aborted.

TipIf auto pick-up mode is activated, you can lift upthe handset from its base station to answer thecall.

4.4 End a callPress during a call connection• The call ends.ORPut the handset on to the base station• The call ends.

4.5 RecallTo use this feature, you have to subscribe theservice with your local service provider.You can use the recall function to make orreceived a second call. The operationsmentioned in Section 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 may bevaried by countries and local service providers.Consult the details of recall operation of thisservice from your local service provider.

4.5.1 How to make a second call

TipInstead of pressing or to browse thephonebook entries, press the numeric keycorresponding to the first letter of thephonebook entry that you wish to locate whenyou are in the phonebook menu. For example,pressing once will show the entries startingwith A. Pressing twice will show the entriesstarting with B.

4.1.5 Call from the redial list

In idle mode:Press to access the redial list

• The display shows the last number dialled orthe name if the dialled number is matched withnumber that stored in the phonebook.Press / to scroll to your desired entryPress to dial the number

• The call is initiated.

TipThe handset stores the last 20 numbers dialed.The last number dialed will appear first in theredial list. If the redial number matches aphonebook entry, the phonebook name will bedisplayed instead.

4.1.6 Call timerThe call timer shows the duration of yourcurrent call when you hang up your phone. It isshown in minutes and seconds format (MM:SS).

4.5.2 How to answer a second callTo use this feature, you have to subscribe theservice with your local service provider. Ifanother call comes in during a call, you will heara short beep periodically.During displaying caller ID, press and / to select functions to accept or reject thesecond call.

NoteAfter accepting the second call, you can press

and / to select Switch Calls orConference to switch calls between the firstand second calls or to make a conference call.

NoteIf you have subscribed the Caller ID service, thecaller ID of your callers will appear on the display.

4.6 How to use the intercomThis feature is only available when there are atleast two registered handsets. It allows you tomake internal calls, transfer external calls fromone handset to another handset and makeconference calls.

4.6.1 How to make an internal call

4.6.2 How to transfer an external call toanother handset

NoteYou can press to switch the call between theinternal call and the external call.

4.6.3 How to make a 3-way conferencecall

The conference call feature allows one externalcall to be shared with two handsets (in intercom).The three parties can share the conversation andno network subscription is required.

5.1 Call in progressSome options are available to you during a call.You can access these options by pressingcorresponding key while a call is in progress.The available options are:

5.1.1 Mute/Unmute microphone

5.1.2 How to adjust earpiece volume

• The earpiece volume is adjusted and the phonewill go back to call connection screen.

5.1.3 How to switch on the loudspeaker

During a call:Press to activate loudspeaker mode

5.2 SMSSMS stands for Short Message Service.Tobenefit from this service, you must subscribe toCaller Line Identification Service (CLI) togetherwith SMS service from your network provider.SMS messages can be exchanged with a phone(mobile or compatible fixed lines), provided thereceiver has also subscribed to CLI and SMSservices.The factory settings on your CD645correspond to the main national operator. If youwish to send or receive SMS messages throughanother service provider, you must set thecorresponding SMS centre numbers.Your phone

4.6.4 Caller Line Identification (CLI)Caller Line Identification (CLI) is a specialservice that you may subscribe from yournetwork operator. If you have subscribed toCLI service and provided that the identity of thecaller is not withheld, the number or name ofthe caller will be displayed when the phonerings so that you may decide whether to answerthe call or not. Please contact your networkprovider for more information on this service.

4.6.5 Call waitingIf you have subscribed to Call Waiting service,the earpiece will emit a beep tone to informyou that there is a second incoming call. Thenumber or name of the second caller will alsobe displayed if you have subscribed to CallerLine Identification service (CLI). Please contactyour network provider for more information onthis service.To answer the second call, press .

6 Answering machine

Your CD645 includes a telephone answering machine that records unanswered calls when it is on.The LED message counter (two digits seven segment display) on the base will show the number ofthe messages when the answering machine is on.The answering machine can store up to 99 messages within the maximum recording time ofapproximately 30 minutes.

In this chapter you will find the most frequentlyasked questions and answers about your phone.

Connection

The handset does not switch on!• Charge the battery: Put the handset on

charger.After a few moments the phone willswitch on.

• Check the charger connections• Use only the SUPPLIED

RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES.

The phone does not work at all.• Make sure that the adaptor and the phone

cord are connected properly• Check that the batteries are fully charged

and installed properly• This phone does not work during power

failure

Communication is lost during a call!• Charge the battery• Move closer to the base station

Poor audio quality• Move closer to the base station• Move the base station at least one metre

away from any electrical appliances

No dialling tone• Check the connections. Reset the phone:

unplug and plug back in the mains.• Charge the batteries for at least 24 hours• Move closer to the base station• Use the line cable provided• Connect the line adaptor (when needed) to

the line cord

Product behaviour

Caller Line Identification (CLI) servicedoes not work.• Check your subscription with your network

operator

A phonebook entry cannot be stored.• Check if the phonebook memory is full,

delete an entry to free memory.

The handset is unable to register.• Make sure that has been pressed for 3

seconds• Each base can only register up to four

handsets

Answering Machine

The answering machine does not recordcalls.• Make sure the answering machine is

connected to the power adaptor, and thepower adaptor is plugged into mains supplywhich is switched on.

• Check if the answer machine is off, orAnswer only mode is selected.

• Check to see if the answering machine ismemory full. If so, delete some or allmessages.

• Try switching off the power at the mainsocket, and then turn it on again after1 minute.

Unable to perform remote operation.• Make sure the remote access is on (see

Section 6.6.4.2)• Make sure you entered the correct remote

access code• Use a touch-tone phone
