(PHILCAMSAT) has formally launched its OPITO (Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organization) Facility at The MAST in Maragondon, Cavite last October 18, 2016. The facility will be home to the following OPITO Courses offered by PHILCAMSAT in partnership with Northern Marine Management: Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET), Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET). As a testament to PHILCAMSAT’s world-class training standards, the Centre achieved its OPITO accreditation in just one attempt despite the stringent application process and requirements set by the Organization. The facility boasts of a state-of-the-art HUET Simulator which is designed to equip personnel travelling to oil and gas installations/ facilities via helicopter with the skills and knowledge needed for a variety of situations. These include using the appropriate safety equipment and following procedures in preparing for and handling helicopter emergencies – with particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following ditching. Kuba Szymanski Pays Tribute to PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo InterManager Secretary-General Capt. Kuba Szymanski paid tribute to PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo for having completed two distinguished terms as President of InterManager. Mr. Borromeo is the first Filipino to be at the helm of InterManager, an international association of global ship managers. The ceremony was held during the 3rd International Shipowning and Shipmanagement Summit in Singapore last October 3, 2016. Thanking Mr. Borromeo for his committed work, Capt. Szymanski said, “During his two terms in office, Gerardo has dedicated a great deal of time and energy to InterManager. The Association will remember him fondly, in particular for his role in increasing InterManager’s prominence in Asia and for strengthening Filipino ship management. We look forward to continue working with Gerardo who will remain a member of our Executive Committee.” Mr. Bjørn Jebsen, Chief Executive Officer of Jebsens, succeeds Mr. Borromeo as the new President of InterManager. PTC Honored by Oman Shipmanagement PTC’s Northern Marine Management (NMM) Philippines was honored by the Oman Shipmanagement Management Company (OSMC) S.A.O.C. with the Best Service Award during the OSMC Safety Conference held last October 19 at the JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu in India. The award was given in recognition of the outstanding service rendered by PTC-NMM Philippines to OSMC in managing four of its VLOC vessels, currently the largest bulk carriers in the world at 400,000++ DWT. The award was given by Capt. David Stockley, OSMC Chief Operating Officer, and received by Capt. Petercon Lugue, Assistant Vice President for Crewing Operations - Offshore Division of PTC Inc. PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo Speaks at ISSS 2016 PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo delivered a presentation on “Building a Sustainable Future in Manning Capability” at the 3rd International Shipowning & Shipmanagement Summit (ISSS) in Singapore last October 3, 2016. Jointly organized by Shipping Innovation and InterManager, ISSS gathered ship owners and managers to examine the latest industry developments and international concerns surrounding today’s shipping industry in the area of crew management, global terrorist threats – be it physical or across the internet; cyber security, anti-corruption in shipping, and media preparedness in the event of a casualty at sea. Capt. Kuba Szymanski, InterManager Secretary-General, chaired the summit. Also in attendance were PTC Director Christina Manzano, PTC Executive Director Mark Parco, Health Metrics Medical Director Dr. Toby Abaya, and PHILCAMSAT Executive Director for Education and Professional Development Karen Avelino. Dimalupig Screened at Muntinlupa Elementary School PTC organized a screening of the career advocacy film “Dimalupig” for an audience of Grade 6 students from the Muntinlupa Elementary School (MES) last October 19. Aside from learning about the demands and challenges of the seafaring profession, the students shared that they realized that “pursuing one’s dream is not impossible with hard work, determination and faith.” MES Principal Marissa Andanza praised the movie’s informative approach and expressed her eagerness to conduct more screenings of the film for the rest of the school’s more than 15 sections of sixth graders. After the film showing, the students participated in educational games and were treated to afternoon snacks. PTC Provides Assistance to Typhoon Lawin Victims PTC extended aid to the victims of Typhoon Lawin (international name: Haima) in the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Northern Abra and Ilocos Norte. Through the office of Senator Sonny Angara, PTC helped provide food packs to various evacuation centers. The relief goods were dispatched for delivery to the most severely affected areas last October 28. PTC GMPs and Allottees Attend CTI Career Orientation PTC’s Family and Crew Relations (FCR), in partnership with Constellation Travels, Inc. (CTI), helped open career opportunities in the travel sector for PTC global maritime professionals (GMPs) and their families through a travel agent career orientation held last October 20 at the CTI office in Merryland Plaza, Makati. A total of 20 participants were part of the pilot group of trainees named “Batch 1 Lawin” who were briefed on the opportunity to be part-time travel agents for CTI. The seminar was opened by FCR Manager Normie Hernandez while CTI’s Jobelle Co Lim gave a background on the services offered by CTI, as well as, the company’s achievements over its more than three decades in the industry. CTI Head of Business Development and Sales Vivien Aragon explained the functions of a travel agent, as well as, exciting perks and opportunities that the industry offers. ACM Homes and PTC Join Hands for a Greener Tomorrow PTC Employees and homeowners from ACM Homes’ PTC North and PTC South Communities showed their commitment for a greener future at “Planting for a Better Tomorrow,” a tree planting and welcome party held last October 15 at the Pacific Terraces Community North in Imus, Cavite. A total of 25 seedlings were planted during the activity which was opened by Engr. Peter Lugue, Assistant Vice President for Crewing Operations - Offshore Division of PTC Inc., and Ms. Bernadette Villarez, VP for Sales of ACM Homes.

Attendees then headed to the Pacific Terraces Community South Clubhouse to welcome PTC GMP homeowners together with their families. The program featured a Financial Literacy Talk by Ma. Salve

Duplito, resident Financial Adviser of ANC’s “On The Money,” plus fun games designed to encourage camaraderie and friendship among PTC North and South Homeowners. A sumptuous buffet lunch was served to all guests with homeowners receiving special complimentary cakes as a token of appreciation by the ACM Homes Management.

Providing a Training Ground for Future Aviation Professionals PTC Mil-Com Aviation Training Center Inc. is rapidly evolving as the choice training center of the country’s leading hospitality and tourism schools. Last October 11, a total of 120 students from the College of Hospitality and Tourism of Holy Angel University in Angeles attended the Center’s “Be a Flight Attendant for a Day” workshop. BS Leisure & Tourism Management students of Miriam College joined the said program on October 10. The Center is also set to conduct a training workshop for students of the Lyceum of the Philippines in Manila.

Recently, PTC Mil-Com entered into a cooperation with PAL Express to facilitate the use of the Center’s cabin crew training facility and equipment for the various recruitment and training needs of the airline.

PTC Spookemon Halloween Trick or Treat EventChildren of PTC employees enjoyed a day of Halloween fun at the PTC Spookemon Annual Trick or Treat event held last October 27 at the First Maritime Place. Donning cute Pokemon-themed costumes, around 200 kids visited the various PTC Group offices where they were rewarded with handfuls of candies and sweet treats. Earlier in the morning, the kids were regaled with a magic show and exciting games before walking the runway for the Best in Costume contest. Adults also joined the fun by dressing their respective floors in scary, Pokemon-related décor.

PTC Oktoberfest 2016 PTC employees showed off their flair in the performing arts at this year’s PTC Oktoberfest Talent Showcase last October 14 at the Mainsail Café in First Maritime Place. Entertaining the jam-packed crowd with their musicianship and dancing skills were Hot Chix of Health Metrics, Alyssa Cruz of Accounting, Jojie Atacador of the Security Department, Maricar Navarro of ACM Homes, Art Lirio and Jason Marcelo of Human Resources, Wave 8 of Marketing Communications, Legal, PHILCAMSAT and FMCC, PHILCAMSAT Gurls, NStar Dancers of Northern Star Energy and guest band Fuzzy Thieves. Guests were also treated to exciting surprise performances and raffle draws as they enjoyed the food prepared by PHILCAMSAT Culinary. Serving as the event’s host were Art Lirio and Analie Montemayor of the Komaya Crewing Office.

ACM Joins International Day of the Girl Celebration with SPARKACM Landholdings Inc. supported the annual celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child (IDG2016) last October 11, 2016 at the Gateway Mall Cubao, Quezon City. Spearheaded by Samahan ng mga Pilipina para sa Reporma at Kaunlaran (SPARK), the event featured presentations from advocates of girls’ education and women empowerment, and was the venue for the official screening of the documentary “Girl Rising.” In her speech, keynote speaker Vice President Leni Robredo expressed that women empowerment in the Philippines can be strengthened by empowering girls to be “taught how to value themselves” at a young age. VP Leni also stressed the importance of this because “it is not something that you can teach overnight. It’s something that has to grow in each and every one of our girls, who will soon turn into women”.

PTC Selected as Lloyd’s List Asia FinalistPhilippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc. was a finalist for the Lloyd’s List Asia Awards 2016 in the category of Education and Training held on October 20 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. Ms. Karen Avelino, Executive Director for Education and Professional Development and Mr. Richard Arcamo, Assistant Sales Manager of PHILCAMSAT represented PTC. Lloyd’s List, a widely renowned and respected global institution and international news magazine has over the years recognized outstanding companies and individuals who have made significant contributions to the global shipping community thru an awards ceremony both held in the U.K. and in Asia.

The PTC Group of companies is looking forward to its annual Christmas gathering on December 15 with this year’s theme “The PTC Group Celebrating Change.”

Gerardo Borromeo at the Danish Maritime Forum and WMU GraduationPTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo was one of 4 special panelists at the Danish Maritime Forum 2016 held last October 26 to 27 at the Oceankaj 4 & 6 in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark. The forum convened key maritime leaders from across the globe to discuss Denmark’s long-term prospects for its own Blue Maritime framework.

Mr. Borromeo, a member of the World Maritime University (WMU) Executive Board, was also in attendance at the WMU graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2016 last October 29 in Malmö, Sweden. Mr. Kitack Lim, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General and WMU Chancellor, conferred degrees on two Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidates, 114 graduates from the Malmö Master of Science (MSc) programme, 35 of whom were women, several students from the MSc programmes in Shanghai and Dalian, China, as well as, a number of postgraduate diploma students who completed their studies via distance learning. The graduates are comprised of maritime leaders and experts from over 50 countries.

Crew Conferences

John T. Essberger and Transocean Shipmanagement held their Safety, Security, Health, Environment and Quality (SSHEQ) Seminar for their officers and crew at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Manila last October 10 to 14, 2016.

Ugland Marine Management (UMM) held a Mini-Conference for its Senior Officers last October 24 to 25 at the Pan Pacific Hotel. Topics on safety awareness, emergency simulation drills, port state control, focus on attitude and responsibility and health nutrition were discussed during the 2-day conference. The UMM delegation was headed by Deputy Managing Director Arnt Olaf Knutsen.

Seaspan Ship Management held its third Manila Forum last October 21 to 22 at the Solaire Resort Hotel. The forum was anchored on the theme “Provider of Choice: Customer Satisfaction in Changing Times.” A special event was held for the wives of its officers and crew on the first day and culminated with a fellowship night.
