INVESTMENT.The 1856 Society, named for the year in which the East Alabama Male College (now Auburn University) was established, recognizes donors to Auburn University and Auburn University Montgomery whose cumulative contributions and irrevocable planned gifts reach or exceed $100,000.

The 1856 Society held its biennial recognition program and dinner in the Auburn Arena on Sept. 6, 2013, at which time the society:

• included 976 households and 374 companies

• welcomed 189 new households and 44 new companies

• launched three new giving circles, thereby recognizing donors’ cumulative contributions from $250,000 to more than $10 million

Contributions by 1856 Society members to the Auburn University Foundation increase scholarship and fellowship opportunities, support high-quality faculty and instruction, and enhance academic and student programs.

Dr. Gogue presented John and Rosemary Brown with the 1856 Society’s first President’s Circle membership for their cumulative giving to Auburn.
