Children’s Hospital demonstrates a unique environ-ment FOCUSing on both patients and their families. As the most comprehensive children’s hospital in the state, Vanderbilt offer services from cancer treatments, organ and bone marrow transplants to broken legs, and everything in between. It is also well known as a leader in patient care, health care technology, education, and research.

Children are NOT small adults and have very special needs. The greatest obligation our society bears is to our children. They are our future, and we must understand the difference between our needs as adults and their needs as children—especially in health care. For that reason, Children’s Hospital has a philosophy based on family-centered care.

Nashville’s earliest beginnings can be traced back to 1779, when a group of settlers traveled to the Cumberland bluffs. James Robertson is credited with naming the place “Nashborough,” and the name was officially changed to “Nashville” in 1784.

Today, Nashville spans about 502 square miles and is considered home to approximately 600,000 peo-ple. Fortune magazine considers it one of the top 15 cities in the nation to work in and raise a family. We have professional sports teams, including football, hockey, and soccer. Our selection of restaurants includes down-home, Southern cooking to upscale sophistication—not to mention a diverse blending of food and cultures from around the world!

Many of our attractions and sights are family-oriented and can be enjoyed at little or no charge. Whether you are attending a crafts festival, perusing great works of art at the Frist museum, or taking in a Shakespeare Festival performance at Centennial Park, Nashville suits many tastes and interests. Of course, Nashville has been known as the Music

City for decades, and serves as the location for the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame. While many people associate Nashville’s music scene with our deep, deep country roots, there’s actually a lot of jazz, hip-hop, pop, bluegrass, folk, and rock’n’roll to take in, too.
