Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a multi-stage tax on domestic consumption. GST of 6% is charged on all taxable supplies of goods and services in Malaysia except those specifically exempted. Healthcare services provided by the government are out of scope supplies. No GST will be imposed on any healthcare services supplied by the Government. These include traditional and complementary medicine services (TCM) provided by the Government. Healthcare services for the treatment purposes provided by private healthcare facilities are exempted from GST. Non related healthcare services such as food catering, canteen, security, parking and so on will be subject to GST. Private healthcare facility means any registered or licensed premises, other than the Government healthcare facility, used or intended to be used for the provision of healthcare services, such as private hospital, hospice, ambulatory care centre, nursing home, maternity home, psychiatric hospital, psychiatric nursing home, community mental health centre, hemodialysis centre, medical clinic and dental clinic and such other healthcare premises. According to the definition, community pharmacy is not a private healthcare facility. Therefore, services and medicines which are not under the National Essential Medicine List (NEML) provided by community pharmacy will be charged GST. In another words, certain medicines’ price will increase. Although medicines are subject to standard rate, medicaments and medical gases in the NEML issued by the Ministry of Health and approved by the Minister of Finance and put up in measured doses or in forms of packaging for retail sale are zero rate. (Please refer to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department websites for the list of the zero rate items).

What is Registered Medicine?

All pharmaceutical products including health supplements and traditional preparations which is registered with the Drug Control Authority (DCA) of Malaysia before being marketed in Malaysia.

The evaluation of the products' quality, safety and efficacy (except for traditional preparations and health supplements) are carried out to ensure safety to the public.

There are two main features of registered products; the registration number and genuine hologram sticker.

Unit Farmasi Pejabat Kesihatan Derah Jasin buat pertama kalinya telah menganjurkan sebuah mini karnival yang bertemakan ‘Sihat Bersama Farmasi’ iaitu 1 Hari Bersama Farmasi. Karnival yang telah berlangsung pada 15 Ogos 2015 yang lalu di Mydin Wholesale Hy-permarket Bandar Jasin Bestari, Jasin ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesedaran warga masyarakat terhadap penjagaan kesihatan diri dan orang lain, meningkatkan kefahaman warga masyarakat terhadap cara penggunaan ubat yang betul dan menggalakkan masyarakat melakukan ujian dan saringan kesihatan berkala untuk mengetahui status kesihatan diri dan keluarga disamping dapat memperkenalkan profesyen farmasi kepada masyarakat. Terdapat beberapa aktiviti yang menarik semasa karnival ini berlangsung, antaranya pemeriksaan kesihatan percuma dari wakil farmasi komuniti di daerah Jasin, pemeriksaan gigi dan kanser servik oleh Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Jasin, pameran dan ceramah berkaitan ubat-ubatan, pertandingan mewarna dan pelbagai permainan lain. Penganjuran karnival ini dilihat telah mendapat sambutan yang amat menggalakkan dari pelbagai pihak. Semoga karnival seperti ini dapat diteruskan di masa akan datang dengan skala yang lebih besar.

Combined Oral Contraceptives (COCs) All COCs contain oestrogen and progestogen. They inhibit ovulation, reduce receptivity of endometrium

by thickening cervical mucus to form a barrier to sperm penetration.

Counselling point

When to start??

If without preceding hormonal contraception: for immediate contraception start with an active pill during first 5 day of your period. If you start active pill after this, use additional contraceptive methods for the first 7 days.

If changing from another COC: start taking active pills the day after you stop your old pill (on any day of your cycle). Additional contraception is not required.

If changing from a progestogen-only pill: start taking the active pills without any interval and use additional contraceptive methods for the first 7 days.

What to do if missed active pills, vomit or diarrhea??

If you vomit within 2 hours of taking an active pills, or if you are < 24 hours late taking an active pill, take it as soon as you remember and take the next pill at the usual time; contraception will not be affected.

If you are >24 hours late taking an active pill, or if you have severe vomiting or diarrhea for >24 hour, the pill will not be effective.

-If the missed dose was in the last 7 days of active pills, finish the active pills in your present pack, then start the active pills in new pack without any break.

-If the missed pill was in the 7 days after the inactive pill and you have unproctected sex during or after that time, seek emergency contraception. Start taking your pill again within 12 hours of taking the emergency contraceptive tablet.
