Career Prospects in Pharmacy after Graduation

For Higher studies: After doing B.Pharm they can do M.Pharm, MBA

for improving their skills and up-gradation of their degree or they can

go for jobs in the chemical companies, research institutes, Pharma

companies or even in universities and colleges.

Overseas career: Some of the B.Pharm graduates choose to fly over-

seas and make their career bright. By scoring well in GRE, TOEFL,

IELTS entrances they can pursue M.S, MBA and other pharmacy relat-

ed courses in US, UK, Australia etc.

M.Pharm: It is master degree of pharmacy in various branches or

subjects like pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, pharma-

ceutical/medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical marketing, pharmacy

practice, quality assurance, ph. technology, ph. administration, ph.

science, bulk drug Tech., industrial pharmacy, pharmaceutical analysis,

pharmaceutical biotechnology. All the branches are distinct and have

rejoicing scope. Many industries rely on master students rather than

bachelors as they are specialized in a particular branch and have bet-

ter knowledge. GPAT is mandatory to get admission in government col-

leges.

Pharm.D: It is a brand new option for B.Pharm graduates in India. It is

a total 3 year course out of which 2 years of academics and 1 year of

training in hospital is there. Then, appear for FPGEC, NAPLEX after

that one can get registered as pharmacist in most of the countries. It

involves all the aspects of clinical pharmacology and drug administra-

tion covering chiefly drug interactions and adverse effects. It is also

known by the name “PharmD PB (post baccalaureate).

Marketing: There is big scope in sales dept. of pharmaceutical compa-

nies, making tools and machines for research. These companies hire

graduates for their marketing and sales as MR, project managers etc.

Page 7: PHARMA VIBRANCE - sumandeepvidyapeethdu.edu.in · subjects like pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, pharma- ... graduates in pharmacy can also make their career in aca- ...

Clinical research: Recently, Clinical research has also opened its door for

B.Pharm graduates as medical underwriter, CRO, data validation associate,

clinical research associate etc.

Production: Many vacancies appear in pharma industries for production. All

the big firms invite suitable skilled pharma individual in manufacturing units.

Initial pay is less around 6000-10000 per month but later it grows faster than

any other line. Manufacturing of pharmaceuticals involves all the drugs in dif-

ferent dosage forms and cosmetics also.

Quality control: Some government jobs like government analysis are associ-

ated with it. They have to develop, apply, revise and maintain quality stand-

ards for processing materials into partially finished or finished products. They

help in designing and implementing methods, procedures for inspecting,

testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products. They also pre-

pare documentation for inspection of testing procedures.

Scientists: Pharma graduates can also work as a scientist in R&D and F&D.

It is a field of innovation. Numerous researches are going on in India though

less when compared to U.S. and other British industries. Fewer candidates

from B.Pharm are selected because of their lack of knowledge but those with

all ideas of subject are greeted in this field.

Lecturer: Usually, graduates in pharmacy can also make their career in aca-

demics. In some institutions they are eligible to work as lecturer for diploma

students.

LLB: After completing B.Pharm one can also study law. The student has to

clear the entrance exam for admission into Law College. Different entrances

are AMU Law Admission Test, LSAT India, CLAT, SET and IPU CET.

Real Winners

“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.”

This is a true story of a young woman who went through the most gruesome fire. When you read her story, you’ll realize that your trials are absolutely

nothing compared to what this young girl went through .

It was September 25, 2000. Maricel Apatan was an 11-year old girl in Zamboanga. On that day, this little girl went with her uncle to draw water.

Along the way, four men met them. They were carrying long knives. They told her uncle to face down on the ground, and they hacked him on the

neck and killed him.

Maricel was in total shock especially that the men were their neighbours. She tried to escape, but the men ran after her.

She cried, “Don’t kill me! Have mercy on me!”

But they weren’t listening. With a long knife, a man slashed her on the neck too.

Maricel fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

When she woke up, she saw a lot of blood. She also saw the feet of the men around her, but she pretended to be dead.

When they walked away, Maricel ran back home. But along the way, she saw that both her hands were falling off. Because the men hacked them too.

She cried but she kept running.

Sometimes, she would faint and fall to the ground. But she’d regain consciousness and run again .

When she was near her home, Maricel called her mother.

Page 9: PHARMA VIBRANCE - sumandeepvidyapeethdu.edu.in · subjects like pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, pharma- ... graduates in pharmacy can also make their career in aca- ...

When she was near her home, Maricel called her mother.

Upon seeing her daughter, her mother screamed in terror. She wrapped her

bloodied child in a blanket and carried her to the hospital .

Here was the problem: From her house to the highway, it was a 12-

kilometer walk. It took them 4 hours just to reach the highway.

When they arrived in the hospital , the doctors thought Maricel was going

to die . But for 5 hours, they operated on her. It took 25 stitches to stitch to-

gether the long knife wound in her neck and back.

Maricel barely survived. And she lost both of her hands.

Ironically, the next day was Maricel’s birthday. She was 12 years old.

But tragedy didn’t end there . When they went home, they saw their home

was gone. It was ransacked and burned down by the goons.

Being very poor, Maricel’s family also didn’t have Rs50,000 for their hos-

pital bills.

But God sent many angels along the way to help them.

Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, a distant relative, paid for hospital bills

and helped them bring the criminals to court. They were sentenced to pris-

on .

Today, she’s staying with the nuns at Regina Rosarii with Sr. Eppie Brasil ,

O.P.

But this is the incredible miracle . Instead of staying down , Maricel kept

running.

Instead of cursing God why she had no hands, she now uses her wrists in

incredible ways that will boggle your mind.

Maricel was cited as the most industrious, best in computer and most

courteous in the School for Crippled Children .

In 2008, she graduated from a course in Hotel and Restaurant Manage-

ment. She even received a Gold medal for Arts and Crafts.

In 2011, she finished her education to be a chef. Yes, a Chef without hands.

Nothing can stop this young lady from reaching her dreams.

“Never give up, great things take time.”

STOP

DAWRY In our Indian society there are numerous problems like superstitions, illiteracy, cast system and dowry sys-tem, etc.

It is surprising that even in these days of the 21th century, we are still drowned in the dark depth of these

evils.

One of the worst evils of Indian Society is the dowry system. The word ‘dowry’ means the property and money that a bride brings to her husband’s house at the time of her marriage. It is a custom that is preva-lent in all the sections of our society in one form or the other. At the beginning it was voluntary, but later on the social pressure was such that very few could escape from it.

The dowry at present is a source of both joy and curse in the society. It is also a joy to the husband and his relatives who get cash, costly dress and utensils, furniture, bedding materials, etc. But, it is a curse to the bride’s parents who have to bear enormous cost to satisfy the unreasonable demands of the bride-groom’s party. A demand of dowry does not diminish even after marriage. The in-laws of the bride are very much ready in Indian homes to inflict harassment, insults and tortures-both mental and physical. When more pressure is put on the bride’s parents, their dear daughter has no other option but to commit suicide to avoid more insult and torture at the hands of the members of her husband’s family.

This curse of Dowry System must be eradicated forth with at any cost. Women from every walk of life, lit-erate or illiterate, poor or rich, young or old must unite together and come forward to protect their own hon-our and interest. Though the Government has promulgated certain anti-dowry laws, these have not pro-duced the desired results. People’s efforts are also necessary if this evil is to be removed once for all. The high expenditure of the marriage ceremony must be cut down.

Women must be empowered. Gender-based inequality should be completely abolished and the position of women in the society should be raised. Women must be taught since girlhood that their life is not useless without marriage.

Girls should get the opportunity to get education at schools. After completion of school education, they

should be encouraged to have higher education. Proper education of girls would be helpful in educating

girls and women of their rights. Their age of marriage should be raised. They should be encouraged to en-

ter into various fields of paid jobs, as their higher economic status also discourages demands for dowry.

The practice of mass marriage should be encouraged for the sake of economy.

“ Cup of Coffee, Full of Kindness …..”

“Kindness leaves a last ing legacy.”

I sat with my friend in a well-known coffee shop in a neighbouring town of Venice, Italy, the city of lights and wa-ter.

As we enjoyed our coffee, a man entered and sat at an empty table beside us. He called the waiter and placed his order saying, “Two cups of coffee, one of them there on the wall.”

We heard this order with rather interest and observed that he was served with one cup of coffee but he paid for two.

When he left, the waiter put a piece of paper on the wall saying “A Cup of Coffee”.

While we were still there, two other men entered and ordered three cups of coffee, two on the table and one on the wall. They had two cups of coffee but paid for three and left. This time also, the waiter did the same; he put a piece of paper on the wall saying, “A Cup of Coffee”.

It was something unique and perplexing for us. We finished our coffee, paid the bill and left.

After a few days, we had a chance to go to this coffee shop again. While we were enjoying our coffee, a man poorly dressed entered. As he seated himself, he looked at the wall and said, “One cup of coffee from the wall.”

The waiter served coffee to this man with the customary respect and dignity. The man had his coffee and left with-out paying.

We were amazed to watch all this, as the waiter took off a piece of paper from the wall and threw it in the trash bin.

Now it was no surprise for us – the matter was very clear. The great respect for the needy shown by the inhabitants of this town made our eyes well up in tears. Ponder upon the need of what this man wanted. He enters the coffee shop without having to lower his self-esteem… he has no need to ask for a free cup of coffee… without asking or knowing about the one who is giving this cup of coffee to him… he only looked at the wall, placed an order for himself, enjoyed his coffee and left. A truly beautiful thought. Probably the most beautiful wall you may ever see anywhere!

“Be the reason someone bel ieves in the goodness of people .”
