PG&E Hunters Point Site Advisory Committee Weekly Update May 25, 2012 This is the latest weekly update from PG&E’s Cleanup Project Team to the Project Advisory Committee (PAC) and interested community members. This update provides an overview of current and upcoming PG&E activities on and around the Hunters Point Site. Air monitoring information from this week and a site map are also included. Area B — We are continuing excavation in Area B. This work is expected to be completed by the end of June. To reduce excavation odors, we will be using an odor control agent that you may notice as a sweet smell (similar to bubble gum). The excavation odors and odor control agent are non-toxic. Area I — Preparations in Area I will be completed early next week, and we plan to begin excavation in the area by the end of this month. Upcoming Tour of Enhanced Dust Control Measures and Air Monitoring — On Thursday, June 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., we will be hosting a tour of the enhanced dust control measures and the air monitoring system at the site. Participants will have an opportunity to provide feedback to the project team and have questions answered. To reserve a place for the tour, please email or call us (see our contact information below). Air Monitoring —Airborne naturally occurring asbestos (NOA) and dust are closely monitored at the site. On work days, air monitors (see attached site map) record and report air quality. In addition, randomly selected workers wear personal air monitors to measure air quality while they work. Air monitoring results are regularly reported to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) and Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). BAAQMD also conducts unannounced site visits to inspect our efforts on a regular basis. Over the past week, all NOA readings were below the project’s trigger level. Worker protection levels set by federal and state law were not exceeded at any time. Any time you have questions, please feel free to contact us via the project hotline (415) 626-3055 or by email at [email protected] . Also note that all reports, including air monitoring reports, can be found online at www.pge.com/hunterspoint or the Department of Toxic Substances Control Web site: www.envirostor.dtsc.ca.gov/public/profile_report.asp?global_id=38490002 . Thank you.
