REPORT OF THE BOARD OF STUDIES - 2017

The Board of Studies of the PG & Research Department of Rehabilitation Science was held on 28th March 2017 in the
Rehab Library. The meeting began with a short prayer followed by the formal welcoming of the special invitees, the
faculty members and the student representatives by the Head of the Department Dr.P. Nagalakshmi . The special

Following the welcome the chairperson presented the agenda of the meeting. The agenda was
To pass the syllabi of the papers of the V and VI semester of the UG course.
To incorporate new course the paper INTRODUCTION TO DISABILITY was introduced in the I semester.
addition of new papers if any
The following were the changes suggested and revised by the expert.
1) The new paper titled as Principles and Practices of Vocational Rehabilitation was introduced.
2) The NME paper Indian Sign Language to be retitled as Sign Language.
3) To evolve criteria for managing rehabilitation programmes and also include content on Managerial skills
and professional ethics were introduced in the paper Management of Rehabilitation Programmes.
Some of the common changes suggested by the expert were
The objectives in each paper to reflect knowledge, application, skills and values and
also objectives to be framed unit wise .
References to be classified as 1) TEXT BOOK and 2) ESSENTIAL READING
References to include recent editions, publications and articles.
To encourage Journal reading culture among students.
To the query on bringing changes in the course pattern, the expert suggested that a
minimum of 140 credits is mandatory for any UG course and that any structural modifications in
the course pattern can be brought in with the passing of the course pattern in the Board and getting
its approval in the Academic Council of the College.
The changes brought in the paper Introduction to Disability as per the RPWD Act 2016 was revised and
passed.
With these suggestions the syllabi of the papers of the V and VI semester of the UG course was revised
and passed.
After transacting the agenda, the minutes of the meeting was presented and the proceedings came to a
close with the vote of thanks.
Based on the suggestions given by various stakeholders, courses which focused on skill
development, employability and entrepreneurship were introduced to make the students ready to
be effective is employees or dynamic/smart employers. The details of these courses are given
below.
