A church cannot claim to be a Christ-centered, Bible-focused, Spirit-led church unless the Great Commission is affecting our time, our budget and our energy. I am grateful for the fact that as we as church can prioritize (and should prioritize) missions not only in our personal lives but also as the corporate body of Christ. Besides the Great Commission (which is certainly enough motivation and direction in itself), consider this one simple thing about Jesus . . . The majority of Jesus' ministry was in the community, not in the temple. Jesus consistently took His ministry to the people. The gospel accounts are filled with His interactions out among the people. “The reality is that the call to follow Jesus included a call to follow Him on His mission. The Great Commission was not a special calling for an elite few, but a mandate for every follower. The call has been given. The mission is waiting. And Christ is so worth it.”….

Petsworth Baptist Church and the Priority of Outreach and Missions It is clear that when you read the Scriptures, God calls us as a church (made up of differing individuals) to be on mission with Him through whatever means and ways possible (Matthew 28:18-20). On an individual basis we are asking each member to pray for, share with, and invite at least one oth-er person to come to Christ and to church in Who’s Your One initiative. Several of you shared with me after our Easter Gathering that your one had attended – I praise God for that!! As a corporate body we are seeking to be intentional in fulfilling the Great Commission by providing and encouraging our church to be involved locally, nationally, and internationally. Our calendar is reflecting our priorities:

Some may ask why such an emphasis in terms of time, resources, planning, and focus. It's im-portant for us to intentionally leverage our time, energy, and resources back out into the community, our state, and our world rather than become fully consumed with those who already know Jesus. About 60 kids participated in our 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Even though the weather did not cooperate we had a great time! Each age group had a hidden golden egg! Thanks to all the volunteers who made the day possi-ble!

Psalm 119:9-12 says: “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hid-den in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes. “ These children come week in and week out seeking Him with their whole hearts. Listening while His statutes are taught and hiding His word in their hearts. It is evident by their inviting, by their giving to missions and their scripture memorization. Yes leaders, we do teach them but they teach us also! Thank you, Clubbers, for your obedience to our Lord and Savior. We finish up the year with these themes: May 1st - Goofy Glasses Night- wear your "GOOFIEST" Glasses! May 8th - Vacation Night - Come to club like your "going on vacation" May 15th - End-Of-The-Year-Awards-We will have Pizza and Drinks for you! Thank you Leaders for your continued faithfulness to serve our Lord in the Awana Program. Continue to keep Bill and Ruth Sapp in prayer. EVERY-CHILD,EVERYWHERE Jim Munson - Ministry Director

Greetings Church, While the bees and butterflies are busy collecting pollen from the manifold blooms that adorn our surroundings this time of year, we--here at Petsworth--are busy just the same. Thirteen dedicated souls will be leaving on May 16th to partner with fellow Christians from across the na-tion to serve in Angola Prison for the Returning Hearts Program. This program allows children to spend precious time--one full day--with their fathers, all of whom are in-carcerated at the prison. For a large number of these fa-thers, many of whom are serving life or extremely long sentences, this annual event is the only time they get to see and play with their children. Our team will be serving in many capacities, such as supervising the day long vis-its, ministering to the inmates and setting up/cleaning. Please pray for the inmates at the prison, their families and the team as they prepare to leave in just a couple weeks. Grab your camera and hold on tight! Vacation Bible School (VBS) is just around the corner! This yearly event is a huge outreach opportunity for our church and this year it is being held June 23rd-27th. Year after year, it successfully draws in children from all backgrounds and exposes them to the gospel and to the unconditional love of Christ through our VBS workers. Children ages 4 years old through 6th grade are able to attend (enroll on our website!). This year's theme will be "Into The Wild" featur-ing gorillas and geckos, tigers and toucans, lions and le-murs. Please join us in prayer for the children who will be attending this years' adventure and their families. Some-times it is children who lead their families to the church and, ultimately, to Christ. If you are interested in helping with VBS (the more helpers, the better!), please call the front office for more information. In closing, ponder with me the words of George Muller: "The vigor of our spiritual life will be in exact proportion to the place held by the Bible in our life and thoughts." Just as a man must eat and drink in order to work effectively, we too must not neglect to feed our souls daily and drink continually of the Living Water, or else our flesh may pre-vail. "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41 May God strengthen and sustain you all.

New Women’s Bible Study begins Wednesday, May 15th @ 6:30PM

Financial Corner

By Philip Page Last month we completed our second Financial Peace University class. The impact of the class on our students is beyond extraordinary to utterly di-vine! In the span of 10 short weeks, the class re-duced their debt by $40k while increasing their sav-ings by $20k. That is a swing of $60k! Praise God! Three couples have now approached me to share with me the impact of the class on their lives. First, they now have an understanding of how money works. Second, they have an understanding of where they spend it, and third, they have better dis-cussions with each other on their goals. I continue to encourage each of them to remain focused on the debt snowball (eliminating debt). Prayerfully they do not lose the momentum created during the class. The bottom line is they now have a plan and hope for the future. Various distractions can slow down our snowball. Uncertainty about the immediate future including potential job transitions are very legitimate. During the great recession, financial security was a real fear. So people preferred building savings rather than paying down debt. Savings provides more flexibility and security. This perspective is much more spiritual than relying on debt to cover our emergencies! Remember Proverbs 22:6 “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a servant to the lender”. Relying on debt to cover emergencies is preparation for bond-age. So for these people, despite a brief interrup-tion in the debt snowball, the gazelle intensity to re-duce spending remains. Then when the cloud on the horizon dissipates, the savings can be used to eliminate the debt. Please pray for all our graduates to continue delay-ing gratification on earthly pleasures, pay down debt and provide for the future of their family.

Proverbs 13:22 “A good person leaves an inher-itance for their children’s children”.

IMPACT Students are going to be raising funds to help pay for the up-coming retreat and mission trip this summer. This can be costly for a lot of our students. Therefore they are making themselves available to complete any tasks you may need assistance with. This could be anything from yardwork, house-work, babysitting, grocery shopping, running errands. Contact Daniel to schedule one or all of them, or for any questions.
