PETROGRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF TWO SAMPLES
i.:
GENERAL STATEMENTS
Two samples were submitted to our attention by Monopros LTD for a petrographic determination, in order to establish their nature and diamontiferous potential. The samples were provided by a prospector, Sir Arvo Salto. The provenance of these samples is unknown to the author.
The two samples are very similar and probably from the same occurrence. They represent a porphyritic trachyte (if a lava flow) or a trachytic porphyry (if hypabyssal dyke or sill). They are porphyritic hornblende, olivine and augite with locally some biotite and plagioclase. These crystals are in magmatic equilibrium with the host matrix, as shown by zoned, resorbed and skeletal crystal habits. The matrix is made of magnesium rich secondary silicate mineral (tremolite and chlorite) along with a ground mass of feldspar. The feldspar composition and abundance cannot be resolved.
Such a rock has no linkages with any rock type known for its diamontiferous potential, such as kimberlite, orangeite, lamproite or alnoite. They are critically saturated intermediate volcanic rock, in the andesite-dacite-latite- rhyolite differentiation suite. Such rocks are abondant in typical archean greenstone belt. Exploration effort should be focused towards base metal and gold in- such area.

PETROGRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF TWO SAMPLES
SAMPLE IDENTIFICATION: 1187014 LITHOFACIES: PORPHYRITIC TRACHYTE
MEGASCOPIC DESCRIPTION
This rock sample, weighting 3.8 kilograms, collected from an outcrop surface, is a dull medium grey, slightly greenish rock on saw cut surface with a grey buff weathering surface. It is a rather homogeneous rock, aphanitic, microphyric in hornblende set in an intermediate matrix. No brecciated textures are visible. Rare clots of pale green material are noticeable on the saw surfaces, which might be interpreted as clast or alteration spots. No thorough alteration is noticed, no sulfide mineralization nor diamond indicator minerals are noticed. The rock has a slight respond to magnet and no reaction to hydrochloric acid.

MAIN OBSERVATIONS
This rock is likely a porphyritic lava or hypabyssal intrusion of alkali intermediate composition, likely a trachyte. Phenocryst are represented by numerous mineral species, dominated by altered olivine (strict identification not possible). Augite is the second most abundant, followed by hornblende, biotite and concentric zonation of plagioclase. Hornblende phenocryst shows skeletal or resorbed textures, indicating a disequilibrium with the magma,
IOS Services Geoscientifiques inc.

possibly super-heating. Tiny euhedral magnetite grains can also be classified as microphenocrysts.
A few autolithe, subcentimetric in scale, are noticed. They are made of coarser grained hornblende, tremolite, plagioclase carbonate and other alteration mineral. They are considered as cognate.
The matrix is dominated by very fine graines material,* including chlorite, epidote and tremolite as alteration
mineral, and magnetite as primary phase. A mesostase of , epidote and feldspar dominate the matrix.
Such a matrix indicates a volcanic rock of intermediate "' composition, likely a trachyte. Olivine phenocrysts indicates
a silica undersaturation and suggest absence of quartz in themesostase.
^i J The suite of phenocrysts indicates a rather evolved
magma, based on the occurrence of hydrated phases (hornblende ^ and biotite) as well as plagioclase phenocryts. Such "l assemblage is in accordance with an intermediate nature of J the host magma.
-^ This rock has no parental linkage with lamprophyric or ! kimberlitic suite.
The rock has been affected by a greenschist facies metamorphism, which is pervasive and isochemical. No
deformation nor significant alteration in noted.

SAMPLE DESCRIPTION
This rock sample, weighting 2.7 kilograms, collected from an outcrop surface, is a dull medium grey, slightly greenish rock on saw cut surface, rather dark blackish on fresh broken surface with a grey buff weathering surface 5 millimeters in thickness. It is a rather homogeneous rock, aphanitic, microphyric in hornblende set in an intermediate matrix. Phenocryst are mainly visible of saw cut surfaces. No brecciated textures are visible. Some clots of pale green material are noticeable, mainly on the fresh broken surface, white pinkish on weathered surfaces which might be interpreted as clast or alteration spots. The rock is rather massive, with a very slight alignment of phenocrysts visible on saw cut surface. No thorough alteration is notice, no sulfide mineralization nor diamond indicator minerals are noticed. The rock has a slight respond to magnet and no reaction to hydrochloric acid.

MAIN OBSERVATIONS
This sample is obviously coming from the same unit or intrusive as sample 1187014. It is an olivine-augite- hornblende porphyritic lava or shallow intrusive of intermediate composition, critically saturated in silica.
fOS Services Geoscientifiques inc.
i: PETROGRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF TWO SAMPLES
Phenocrysts proportion does differ from the previous sample, being dominated by idiomorphic hornblende, with much less altered olivine. No plagioclase phenocryst were located. The matrix is very fine grained to cryptocristalline, probably a recristallized mesostase. It is made of chlorite, tremolite and feldspar. The original composition of the matrix cannot be solved, but everything indicates an isochemical greenschist facies recristallisat.ion of an intermediate magma, likely trachytic in composition.
Numerous cognate fragments are present, either rounded, angular or amoeboid. They differ from the matrix in regard of their grain size uniquely, either coarser or finer. Phenocrysts and bulk composition are identical to the host rocks. No exotic fragments were notice. No alteration, else than hydratation, is noticed.
This rock has no parental links with kimberlite or other potassic ultramafic magma series.

Mr. Boucher,
As per your request, I'm sending you a brief interpretation on the thin section from Mr. Arvo Salo's samples.
The rock samples are obviously not alkaline ultramafic, kimberlitic, lamprophyric or any other related rocks. These samples consist of volcanic rocks or hypabyssal intrusion with a felspalhic mesaslasc (probably dacite or latite) and abundant altered phenocrysts of magmatic hornblende and pyroxene. These rocks are from an calc- alkaline suite (intermediate composition). They are not related to the lamprophyric suite or any alkalic suite.
A more detailed report will be sent to you later.

The 45 days outlined in the Notice dated January 22, 2001 have passed.
We have received your explanation of events and have allowed an additional 3225 of assessment credit (3300 t 3150 s 3450 x Q.50%) in this instance only. The rationale for the original notice and the current 5007o reduction is the lack of documentation to support the cost being reported. The field work should have been documented and if additional samples were collected they could have been described and located on the map with an explanation of the criteria used for the final selection of samples. The map provided is at a scale of 1:7874 and it would be impossible to accurately relocate the sample locations in the field.
Assessment work credit has been approved as outlined on the attached Distribution of Assessment Work Credit sheet.
The assessment credit is being reduced by 3375.00 The TOTAL VALUE of assessment credit that will be allowed, based on the information provided in this submission, is 3593.00.
