Petrochemicals are chemical products derived from petroleum. Some chemical compounds made from petroleum are also obtained from other fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas, or renewable sources such as corn or sugar cane.

The two most common petrochemical classes are olefins (including ethylene and propylene) and aromatics (including benzene, toluene and xylene isomers). Oil refineries produce olefins and aromatics by fluid catalytic cracking of petroleum fractions.

“Refinería del Pacifico”

Page 7: Petrochemicals in Ecuador

• Design and build Refining and Petrochemical Complex, under international standards of quality and safety, according to the legal framework and policies.

MISSION

• Start the “Refineria del Pacifico” operations with efficient and effective processes, meeting quality standards and social responsibility, to satisfy domestic fuel demand and export surplus.

VISION

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

Design and construct the “Refineria del Pacifico Eloy Alfaro”, with a processing capacity of 300,000 barrels per day in two

phases, with deep conversion technology, required for the production of gasoline, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas and petrochemical streams for meet domestic fuel demand and

export surplus.

Eliminate discharges of wastewater flowing into the rivers: Manta, burro, and Manta beaches.

Turning Ecuador into a country exporting of petroleum products.

Avoid capital output.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

Page 10: Petrochemicals in Ecuador

“Refineria del Pacifico Eloy Alfaro" is actually an

ambitious construction and commissioning operation of

a medium-scale petrochemical industry,

With an estimated cost of 12,500 million that could

easily scale to the amount of 14,000 million, this project can be qualified as the most expensive in the history of

Ecuador

New Investor (CNPC)

The China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) is one of the main partners in financing the construction the refinery contributing U.S. $12,000 million in

Ecuador.

Jurong Consultants

has experience in developing

projects related to oil,

gas and petrochemical industry, in Singapore

and globally.

Chinese company

CNPC is the third partner

in the refinery Pacific.

It is also one of the leading petrochemical center

worldwide.

Its flagship project is the Petrochemical Center in

Jurong Island.

ARTICLE BY “EL UNIVERSO”:Correa, was quoted by the Ministry of Communication of the Presidency, stressed the interest of several countries to invest

in the project, whose cost is estimated at $ 12,500 million. "There are many stakeholders and things are going extremely well ," the president added , referring to the interest shown by countries like Russia , China , South Korea and Iran , among

others. "It's the most important projects in the history of Ecuador " and " will allow export derivatives" to other

countries in the region and Asia, said Correa. Correa called a " nonsense " that his country, which has oil exports as their main source of income , currently spend a lot of money to

import oil from oil production shortfalls due to fuel refineries it owns. According to Correa, the project is within the time and work schedule established for the construction of the complex , which will be located in the coastal province of

Manabí.
