Club Card

The Club Card is a cashless and user-friendly system that allows members to make purchases at The Brisbane Golf Club. Members (except those aged from 4 to 24) are required to deposit $200 on to their Club Card each year when they pay their annual subscription fees. Members between 18 and 24 can apply for a Club Card. The Club Card is also the access card for the locker rooms.

Members can deposit additional funds through BPAY or at any point-of-sale terminal. Members can request their BPAY biller code and reference number by contacting Reception during office hours on 3848 1008. This information is also displayed on the annual subscription notice.

All trophy credits are applied to the Club Card and purchases will be debited from the initial $200 deposit before any other deposit. Please be advised that all unused balances from the $200 initial deposit will be removed on 30 September of each year.

A receipt will be issued when making a purchase with the Club Card and statements are also available upon request. The balance of the Club Card can be found at www.brisbanegolfclub.com.au. Simply log in and locate My Account.

Dress Code

The Brisbane Golf Club expects members and their guests to respect its dress code whilst on the course, in the Clubhouse or using the practice facilities. Those who do not meet the dress code standards can obtain advice and purchase the appropriate clothing

from the Golf Shop upon arrival. You can read the dress code at www.brisbanegolfclub.com.au. Simply click on Golf and Dress Code.

Care of the Course

Bunkers

Before leaving a bunker, players should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints made by them and any nearby made by others. The Brisbane Golf Club follows the recommendation of The R&A and USGA Match Committee and asks members to leave the rakes outside of bunkers.

Repair of Any Damage

Players should carefully repair any divot holes made by them and any damage to the putting green made by the impact of a ball (whether or not made by the player himself). On completion of the hole by all payers in the group, damage to the putting green caused by golf shoes should be repaired.

Preventing Unnecessary Damage

Players should avoid causing damage to the course by removing divots when taking practice swings or by hitting the head of a club into the ground, whether in anger or for any other reason. Players should ensure that no damage is done to the putting green when putting down bags or the flagstick. In order to avoid damaging the hole, players and caddies should not stand too close to the hole and should take care during the handling of the flagstick and the removal of a ball from the hole. The head of a club should not be used to remove a ball from the hole. Players should not lean on their clubs when on the putting

Etiquette - Behaviour on the Course

This section provides guidelines on the manner in which the game of golf should be played. If they are followed, all players will gain maximum enjoyment from the game. The overriding principle is that consideration should be shown to others on the course at all times.

The Spirit of the Game

Golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules. All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be. This is the spirit of the game of golf.

Safety

Players should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball or any stones, pebbles, twigs or the like when they make a stroke or practice swing. Players should not play until the players in front are out of range. If a player plays a ball in a direction where there is a danger of hitting someone, he should immediately shout a warning. The traditional word of warning in such situations is “fore”.

Course Staff

Players should always alert course staff nearby or ahead when they are about to make a stroke that might endanger them and should remember that course staff have right of way. If a green is being worked upon by green staff and the pin is not in the hole, players are not to hit to the green until the flag is replaced.

Consideration for Other Players

Players should always show consideration for other players on the course and should not disturb their play by moving, talking or making unnecessary noise. Players should ensure that any electronic device taken on to the course does not distract other players. On the teeing ground, a player should not tee his ball until it is his turn to play. Players should not stand close to or directly behind the ball or directly behind the hole when a player is about to play.

Players should not stand on another player’s line of putt or, when he is making a stroke, cast a shadow over his line of putt. Players should remain on or close to the putting green until all other players in the group have holed out.

Scoring

In stroke play, a player who is acting as a marker should, if necessary, on the way to the next tee check the score with the player concerned and record it.

Limited opportunities exist for storage of golf clubs and pull or battery-powered pushcarts at the Golf Shop and cleaning of clubs after each round can be arranged. Prices for golf club storage and cleaning start from $190 per annum.

Guests

Members may not introduce guests on Saturdays and Wednesdays unless designated as a Guest or Invitation Day. On others days, permission must be sought from the Director of Golf, General Manager, or Captain. If guests wish to enter a competition, they must possess a current GA handicap. Members introducing guests must accompany them on the course unless otherwise arranged with the office.

Pace of Play

The maximum playing time for all competitions is 4 hours and 15 minutes.

It has been determined that the time a group of four players takes between the ninth green they are playing and the time the group commences hitting off on their tenth hole should not exceed ten minutes.

Players are required to scan their scorecard with five minutes of finishing.

A group will be considered to have failed to maintain their position in the field if they exceed the maximum playing time and submit their scorecard more than 15 minutes after the group preceding. A finishing time will be allocated to each group and this data will be reviewed by the Match Committee on a weekly basis.

Play at Good Pace and Keep Up

Players should play at a good pace. It is the group’s responsibility to keep up with the group in front. If it loses a clear hole and it is delaying the group behind, it should invite the group behind to play through, irrespective of the number of players in that group. Where a group has not lost a clear hole but it is apparent that the group behind can play faster, it should invite the faster moving group to play through.

Be Ready to Play

Players should be ready to play as soon as it is their turn to play. When playing on or near the putting green, they should leave their bags or carts in such a position as will enable quick movement off the green and towards

the next tee. When the play of a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green.

Lost Ball

If a player believes his ball may be lost outside a water hazard or is out of bounds, to save time, he should play a provisional ball. Players searching for a ball should signal the players in the group behind them to play through as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found. They should not search for five minutes before doing so. Having allowed the group behind to play through, they should not continue play until that group has passed and is out of range.

Priority on the Course

Unless otherwise determined by the Committee, priority on the course is determined by a group’s pace of play. Any group playing a whole round is entitled to pass a group playing a shorter round. The term “group” includes a single player.

Mobile Phones

To eliminate disturbance to fellow members, whether on the course or in the Clubhouse, mobile phones are to be set to silent and voice mail or message bank facilities. Outgoing calls should, for the same reason, be made out of earshot of fellow members and should be restricted to calls of an essential nature, in all areas of the Club’s facilities.

On a Guest Day, guests only need to pay the competition fee. On an Invitation Day, guests pay the Invitation Day rate. When members bring a guest to the Club on other days, they are required to pay the applicable guest fee.

The same guest can only be introduced up to seven times a year and no more than three times between the months of March and November (both inclusive).

Reciprocal members may play in competitions but are not permitted to play in Honour Board or Major events.

Handicaps

Members are responsible for checking their handicaps prior to play.

Members can review their handicap by visiting www.golflink.com.au, which is the official handicap provider for golfers in Australia.

For match play events, the lowest marker players off scratch and the strokes are taken on this basis. For example, in a match where the players are off 4, 10, 11 and 20, the player off 4 plays off scratch, the player off 10 receives 6 shots, the player of 11 receives 7 shots and the player off 20 received 16 shots.

On days where competitions are in progress, any member seeking to play non-competition golf may do so only when and where directed by the Golf Shop. Non-competition players are not permitted to play on the course in front of competition players. Play at all times must commence from the designated tee, unless otherwise authorised. At all times non-competition players shall give way to competition players.

Practice Facilities

The Brisbane Golf Club offers excellent practice facilities allowing members to work on all aspects of the game at a time of their convenience. Facilities include a 240-metre driving range with a full grass hitting area, a short-game facility for chipping and bunker practice, two practice putting greens, and three spare holes.

The spare holes 19, 20 and 21 are ideal for developing golf skills in a real course environment. Members are required to report to the Golf Shop before proceeding to the spare holes and members playing through

have right of way. Chipping practice is allowed using a maximum of 20 golf balls, if there is a designated chipping area in place. If there is no designated chipping area in place, care must be taken not to damage the fairways with excessive use from any one area, and all divots must be filled with sand.

The driving range is available for use by members. Guests may only use the driving range for the purpose of warming up prior to playing a round of golf.

Only range balls are to be used on the driving range and these are available for hire from the Golf Shop. Under no circumstances are range balls to be retrieved other than by the Golf Shop. The current prices for range ball hire are as follows:

• Small Basket (35 balls) $5 • Medium Basket (70 balls) $8 • Large Basket (100 balls) $12

Members must refrain from hitting with golf clubs they know will or might exceed the boundaries of the driving range. Consideration of our neighbours and their safety is paramount.

a motorised cart medical certificate. The medical practitioner signing off on the medical certificate shall not be a member of The Brisbane Golf Club. Motorised cart medical certificates are available from the General Manager.

Motorised carts may be used in all ladies’ competitions, including Honour Board events, with the exception of all rounds of the A Grade Club Championships. When motorised carts are not permitted on the golf course, all members registered with a motorised cart medical certificate may be allowed on the golf course at the direction of the Match Sub-Committee. They may share the motorised cart with a non-registered player.

Membership Nomination

The guidelines, procedures and fees for the nomination of candidates for membership, together with the duties of the proposer and seconder can be obtained from the General Manager.

Motorised Cart Guidelines

Motorised carts are an integral part of the Club and the following guidelines have been provided to ensure course care and member safety is paramount.

Only motorised carts registered with the Club and approved by the Committee are permitted access to the golf course. All motorised cart drivers must be over 15 years of age and possess a current driver’s licence.

Motorised carts are not permitted to be driven in the car park or on the road between Fairfield Road and the maintenance sheds. Motorised carts are not covered by insurance if driven

on a public road, which these two areas are defined as being.

Motorised carts are not permitted to be driven through the Centenary Gardens. All motorised carts stored on the Club’s premises must be insured through the Club’s insurance policy.

Use of motorised carts is restricted to a maximum of two per playing group and one cart only with two walkers in the group.

Motorised carts are to be kept to established paths whenever possible and must follow directional signs.

Motorised carts are to be kept at least 5 metres from tees except when on a formed path and 10 metres from all greens and greenside bunkers unless the area is roped off.

Motorised carts are not permitted inside the marked or roped areas.

Motorised carts are to be parked to the rear of greens or to the side leading to the next tee. They are never to be parked in front of greens. This will greatly assist the Pace of Play.

If course conditions are wet, carts should only travel on the driest and firmest parts of the golf course and should stay away from critical golf areas as much as possible.

Please consider your fellow golfer and do not drive in the vicinity of golfers who are putting or are about to strike the ball.

Drivers are to remain seated at all times; avoid sudden stops or starts; reduce speed in crowded areas or adverse weather conditions; not drive

Ties

Ties, unless specified by the Match Sub-Committee, shall be decided by the Golf Australia Countback System, with exact handicap.

Timesheets

Online timesheets operate every day allowing a tee time to be booked for both competition and non-competition play.

Online timesheets open for all bookings 14 days before and can be accessed in the Clubhouse and Golf Shop.

If a player cannot play at the time they are entered into the timesheet, they must delete themselves from the timesheet and advise their playing partners of their non-attendance.

Trophy Donors

All members are encouraged to donate trophies for a competition of their choice. Members who make a trophy contribution are recognised as follows:

• Trophies for men’s competitions will be on display in the Clubhouse seven days prior with details of the event and trophy donor displayed;

• Acknowledgement of all trophy donors on The Brisbane Golf Club’s website, in the Member Diary, the golf booking sheet, and Facebook page;

• Acknowledgement at the presentation on the day of the competition;

• Presentation of the trophy to the winner/s if donor is in attendance.

To make a trophy contribution, simply collect a Trophy Contribution form from Reception.

Scorecards

Members must collect their scorecard from the Golf Shop prior to their tee time.

The ‘lotto’ section of the scorecard is to be completed by recording a vertical line through the number that matches the gross score. A player will not be disqualified if the ‘lotto’ section is not completed correctly as this format is to assist the efficient processing of scorecards.

If the ‘lotto’ score disagrees with the written gross score, the written gross score will be used.

After the round the gross score should be added up. If it is a stroke event, deduct the handicap and write the nett score in the appropriate box. In Stableford and par events, only the nett result needs to be added and written in the appropriate box.

Two scorecards are used to score a fourball game to allow the individuals’ scores to be recorded correctly for handicapping purposes.

Upon completion of the round, ensure the scorecard is checked, duly signed and scanned before immediately returning it to the scorecard box located in the Golf Shop. Failing to complete this process could result in disqualification as per the Rules of Golf.

Suspension of Play

If the committee, or an authorised person, considers that for any reason the course is not in a playable condition or that circumstances prevent the proper playing of the game, it may, in match play or stroke

play, order a temporary suspension of play. The presence of dangerous conditions, particularly lighting, is another reason to order a temporary suspension of play.

If the players in a match or group are between the play of two holes, they must not resume play until a resumption of play has been ordered. If they are in the process of playing a hole, they must discontinue play immediately and not resume play until a resumption of play has been ordered. If a player resumes play or fails to discontinue play immediately they will be disqualified.

The signal for discontinuing play immediately is one prolonged note of the siren.

The signal for the resumption of play is two short notes of the siren, repeated.

Tees

Honour Board events, Major events and all Saturday competitions are played from the blue tees. White tees are for all other competitions unless otherwise indicated on the scorecard. Red tees are for ladies’ competitions.

Yellow tees are available to members who have obtained the age of 75 years and have received approval from the Match Sub-Committee. Eligible members will not be permitted to win Honour Board events or Major events and will be handicapped in accordance with Golf Australia regulations. Non-competition golf is also played from the yellow tees from time to time.

General Information (continued)

40 41

If agreement cannot be reached on a suitable date, then matches must be played on the date allocated by the Match Sub-Committee or both teams will be disqualified. When playing a match on any Saturday (other than suggested in the Member Diary) or any Wednesday, it must be played at the end of the morning or afternoon field and must be booked through the Golf Shop prior to the release of the timesheet. All matches are to be played off the blue tees. If the blue tee markers are not in place, the match is to be played from the blue plates.

Captain’s Challenge

The Captain’s Challenge is generally played on the last Friday of the month with a 7.30am and a 12.30pm shotgun start. The golf course is set up at its most difficult and any player who beats their handicap in this Stableford Invitation Medley Blue/Red Tee event receives one dozen TaylorMade golf balls.

An Order of Merit is maintained and a winner determined every six months. Points are allocated to the top 68 finishes every month and over the six-month period the golfer with the highest number of points wins a TaylorMade gift voucher.

Members are encouraged to invite guests from other Clubs to play. Members pay a $12 competition fee

whilst non-members pay $50. Each group of four receives a cheese platter in the Clubhouse following their round of golf.

The Club is proud to have Vinidex Systems and Solutions as the major sponsor of the Captain’s Challenge.

The Captain’s Challenge aligns itself with the Leukaemia Foundation and The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. The goal is to raise awareness levels of the roles these important charities play in the lives of those Australians affected and to raise some much needed funding through a variety of activities. Players in the Captain’s Challenge will be encouraged to make a donation of gold coins to these charities.

The Insight Cup

Eligible to Six and Seven-Day Members. Incorporates the best score from any of the monthly blue marker events (Saturday, Wednesday and Sunday). An order of merit is maintained for the year (15 December 2015 to 16 November 2016) with points allocated to the top 68 finishes every month. An eclectic competition is run in conjunction with the Insight Cup.

The best nett score each month from three stroke events for ladies (Tuesday and Saturday Monthly Medals plus one other programmed Insight Cup event) conducted between 19 January and 12 November, with points allocated to the top 68 players every month.

The Brisbane Golf Club is proud to have member Jan Coetzee of Insight Optometrists providing the prizes of Callaway golf balls to the monthly winners and Callaway Golf Clubs to the overall winners.
