Acceleration Academy
during
February Break: If your child is a 3rd, 4th or a 5th grader and is attending Acceleration Academy, make sure that you have your child attend each and every day. Attendance is very important! Students will receive a raffle ticket each day they attend. Raffle tickets will be pulled for prizes on the last day, which is Friday. Students will attend school from Tuesday – Friday, February 17-‐20, 2015. During this time, they will receive intense, small group instruction in ELA delivered by our best Boston Public Schools teachers. They will also participate in enrichment classes such as gym, music and art. How schools throughout Boston and the
country are measuring the success of
your child and their school?
Did you know that all Boston Public Schools students will take an exam called the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers or
(PARCC) instead of MCAS starting this March? So, what do you need to know about this change to support your student? We have some ideas and resources to share: www.parcconline.org
www.doe.mass.edu/parcc First, take a look at this website that Boston Public Schools has designed to explain the PARCC and how it relates to the Common Core State Standards that are being used by schools across the country to measure student and school success. Here are a few ideas that might understand how these changes will apply to your child's education.
v Have a conversation with your student and ask what they know about the changes in the test.
v Ask your student's teacher about what this will mean for your student.
Ask your student's principal what the school is doing to prepare for the change.
A few good questions to include in any conversation with your student's teacher or principal are:
Will my child take the PARCC online or in writing? v What is the current PARCC schedule at the
school?
v What types of training are teachers participating in and are there opportunities for parents to attend?
v Last, but not least, dig deeper into the details by reviewing Frequently Asked Questions about BPS & PARCC. Just click the picture
