ABOUT THE COLLEGE
In the Year 1965, the Government of Tamilnadu started Periyar EVR College in
Tiruchirappalli, the central part of Tamilnadu, naming it after the great thinker and social
reformer, Periyar E.V. Ramasamy who generously donated Rs. 3.5 Lakhs and 9.65 acres of
land for the exclusive purpose of imparting higher education to the people in the around
Tiruchirappalli. The unique feature of this college, which is inconsonance with the intent of
Periyar, is that it caters to the academic needs and aspirations of the students belonging
generally to educationally, socially and economically backward sections most of whom are
first generation learners. Presently the college offering 14 UG programmes, 13 PG Diploma
programmes with around 3000 students.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The commerce department started B.Com in 1969 and the M.Com in 1971. In the year
1987 Ph.D. programme was started. Presently the department offering B.Com. (EM)&(TM),
B.Com.(Shift), M.Com., M.Phil. (FT/PT) and Ph.D. (FT/PT) with 650 students. The
department of commerce had been up grade as a research centre by Bharathidasan University
with 15 Full Time research supervisors and there are 38 research scholars pursuing Ph.D.
Three major research projects sponsored by UGC and ICSSR are in Progress in the
department. Last year, the department conducted a National Seminar on “Financial Inclusion
for Inclusive Growth” sponsored by UGC.
THEME OF THE SEMINAR
Inclusive Banking is the concept which helps to provide financial services to all
people particularly to those who are excluded from banking and financial services. This is
one of comprehensive approaches which helps the socio economic conditions of the rural
individuals and empowers them as an independent citizen of the country. Seminar were
discussed the following sub theme ;
Inclusive Banking an Overview
Inclusive Banking and inclusive growth and Rural empowerment
Inclusive banking and Information Technology
Inclusive Banking and Financial Inclusion and Financial Literacy
Inclusive Banking and Overall Economic Development

INAUGURATION
Inaugurationfunctions were started with the welcome address by Dr. K. Kavimani,
Head, and Dept. of Commerce. In his welcome address, he has highlighted the need and
importance of the seminar and specially appreciated the efforts taken by the organising
secretary Dr. C. Paramasivan.

SEMINAR THEME
Seminar theme was highlighted by the organising secretary Dr. C. Paramasivan. In his
speech, he deeply discussed the issues and challenges of financial inclusion and its impact on
inclusive growth with memorable examples.

KEY NOTE ADDRESS
Dr. Alwar Kannan, SDGM, SBI, described the role of banks for inclusive growth
through financial inclusion. He mentioned that the SBI and other commercial banks play a
key role to provide financial services to the unreached people through No-frill account,
mobile banking, core banking techniques, business correspondence models etc.

In this session, there are 20 papers were presented by students, research scholar and
teaching faculty.

VALEDICTION FUNCTION

the velidiction functions. In their speech they were highlighted the innovative topic which me
essentially needed and appreciated the organising committee to organised the seminar in a
grant successful manner.
Dr. P. Gowthaman, Ph. D., Principal, Kamarajar Government Arts College, Surantai,
Tirunelveli District, Presides over the valediction address in the National Seminar. He
narrated the effects of financial inclusion in inclusive growth with the help of Banking
Sectors. He also appreciated the organising secretary to his sincere efforts sincere efforts to
organised this kind of sponsored seminar in a government college for the benefits of rural and
poor students.
Dr. C. Paramasivan, Organising Secretary, gave a vote of thanks at end of the
programme. He sincerely thanks to the Principal, Head, Faculty member, Resource person,
Participants and Research Scholars their timely supported encouragement. Finally he
announced the topic of the proposed seminar for the academic year 2013-14. The department
proposed to organise a National Seminar on Inclusive Banking through Technology.

There are 81 selected papers were published on in the reputed international Research
Journal on RESEARCH EXPLORER (ISSN:2250-1940) with the support of Indian
Academic Researchers Association. The Journal were released on the first day of the seminar
by the Chief Guest Mr. Alwarkannan, Assistant General Manager, SBI, Chennai and
received by Dr. K. Sekar Principal, Periyar EVR College, Trichy.
Publication of research paper in the reputed Journal was highly entitled by the
participants and paper writers which help to strengthen their research quality.
