A high energy triple bill of daring contemporary dance influenced by martial arts, breakdance and capoeira, from award winning choreographer James Wilton.
Cave is an exploration of our perceptions of reality and our desires to uncover truth.
Falling Unknown is an intimate duet exploring attraction and sacrifice where the female dancers feet never touch the floor.
The Shortest Day, winner of the Sadlers Wells Global Dance Contest, concludes the programme with the dancers struggling against themselves and each other in a desperate effort to survive.

Ockham’s Razor return to Dance City for a third time with their new full length performance.Their latest piece of exciting physical theatre immerses you in the heart of the performance, watching the story and images unfold around you.Using moving sculpture and original aerial structures to create environments that place you in the middle of the action, this performance will shift your perspective of our environment.Not Until We are Lost has an original score from composer Graham Fitkin, twice winner at the British Composer Awards, and will feature a 20 strong choir brought together especially for this show of participants from The Sage Gateshead.

One of the biggest and best events in Britain’s breakdance calendar returns to Dance City as part of Juice Festival.
Jam & Juice is an international hip hop theatre performance, presenting all elements of the dance style with an emphasis on quality, authenticity and respect for Hip Hop dance culture.
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of Just Jam this year’s line-up is stronger than ever.
Acts featuring in this year’s event include BirdGang (UK), Babson (France), Eugene Quiet (Lithuania), Trash Dollies (UK), DJ RASP (UK) and Bad Taste Cru will perform their latest piece Just Another Day.
Presented as part of Juice – NewcastleGateshead’s award-winning festival for children and young people.

Just Jam International is the UK’s top 1 on 1 battle where the best of the UK take on the best of the world for the coveted title and £500 cash prize.Expect to see an incredible show of talent, skills, creativity and style – the absolute definition of breaking. Just Jam has a warm, welcoming vibe as well as true BBoy culture with the highest production values you could expect! This is a social Hip Hop event where everyone is welcome, from families to professional dancers.And this year it is so big, we have split it into two parts. Join us for the Preliminary Round from 2 – 5pm, or for the Finals from 6pm onwards. All invited guests will be competing throughout the whole day and the preliminary round will be just as exciting as the finals!

A love story of long-term commitment, secret desires, day-dreaming and a garden shed.
Inspired by James Turber’s classic story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, this performance expertly crosses the boundaries between dance and theatre.
This delightful performance, which set the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to light with its poingnant and compelling comic story-telling, combines dance, physical theatre and live music.
Featuring Dan Canham who previously performed at Dance City with 30 Cecil Street.

Join Jack, his mum and the GIANT in Dance City’s adaption of the classic story brought to life for families this Christmas.
Jack grows a huge beanstalk from some magic beans, then courageously climbs the beanstalk in an adventure that takes him straight to the house of a giant.
Discover what he finds when he gets there. Will the giant discover him and will he live happily ever after with his mum?
This performance will be brought to life by dare-devil aerial artists, dancers and storytellers, which will amaze children and their families this Christmas.

There is Hope explores faith, belief and rituals. As the cast of international performers journey through a universe of heavens and hells – worlds of beauty and of the bizarre – expect humour and black comedy.
This timely, pertinent and exciting work that speaks of today.

Where to find us...Dance City is approximately a 5 minute walk from both the St. James and Central Station Metro stations. The Grainger Town Multi-Storey Car Park is situated right next to the Dance City building on Waterloo Street.

Finding Dance CityDirections from St James’ Boulevard (A189) by car: Turn onto Westmorland Road (A186) at the crossroads, and then take the first immediate left at the traffic lights onto Waterloo Street. As there is no parking outside the Dance City building, underground access to the Grainger Town Multi-Storey Car Park is on the next left after Akbar’s Restaurant. Leave the car park via the east entrance for access to Dance City, which stands next to the car park.
