How to Get Counseling for Troops and Families

• Military and Family Life Consultant (MFLC) • Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB-MFLC)• Licensed Master’s and PhD level mental health

professionals – Flexible service delivery on and off the installation

• Rotational (attend Family Readiness Groups) Request from your respective Service HQ POC

• On-demand (Reunion ceremonies and pre-deployment meetings) http://jfsap.mhf.dod.mil/request

CYB MFLC Program: Background

• Response to military families’ emerging need for support beyond existing services at installations.

• Initiated in 2005 with support of Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) summer programs.

• In 2006, support provided to the Summer Enrichment Program.

• 2007 expansion into an ongoing, rotational program• Fall of 2008, support into 5 DoDEA schools in Europe

as a pilot program.• Spring of 2009, support of 24 Military Impacted

Schools• Fall 2009, there will be 364 CYB-MFLCs in rotation

worldwide.

Out of Scope

• CYB-MFLCs cannot participate in IEP’s or any formal process for reviewing children for special needs assistance/ placement.

• May not provide clinical therapy. May not provide formal assessments, evaluations or diagnoses.

• Cannot be counted in the staffing ratio.• CYB-MFLC(s) will remain in the line of sight of

staff at all times.
