PERCEPION STUDY OF BRTS AND AMTS
INTRODUCTIONAMTS: Traditional existing public transport system
in Ahmedabad for over 50 years.
Due to problem of pollution, congestion of traffic and increased trip time the need arise to design efficient, safe and fast system for public transport.
BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System): Introduced in Ahmedabad to deal with the increased traffic problems & to provide speedy public transport system.
It consist separate infrastructure.

INFRASTRUCTURE
BRTS AMTS Dedicated separate lanes It has to run in common roads at
existing underpasses\bridges Doesn’t cover whole part of the city Advanced Technology is used Problems Of urbanization such as
pollution, congestion of traffic are solved to much extent.
Separate traffic signals are provided Maximum waiting time at the
stoppage is not more than 10-15 seconds
Each Bus stop is well maintained and constructed
Elevated Bus Stops Higher Initial cost Reduced Accidents
Runs with mixed traffic
Covers most parts of the city Manual operation Congestion in Traffic is still
prevailing
No such facilities It depends on traffic & time schedule
Old aged bus stands without maintenance
No such treatment Already developed system Frequent accidents occur.
VEHICLE CHARACTERISTICS
BRTS AMTS
Less Passenger Capacity Frequency: Approximately 1
0 minutes. Less Fuel Consumption and
pollution Speed Limit: 30-40 km\hr Only one Way to enter and
exit
Each Bus stop is well maintained and constructed
Air Conditioned Buses are proposed.
Number of buses required are less
Higher Passenger Capacity Frequency: Approximately 20
minutes Higher Fuel Consumption
and pollution Not specific Separate Entry and Exit ways
are provided. Old aged bus stands without
maintenance No Such buses. More number of buses are
required
WE AS USERBRTS AMTS
Reduced Travelled Time Comfortable Journey Well Defined Stoppage Serves Specific areas Bus Stands not easily
accessible Proper Ticket vending system Can’t be used to serve areas
of low traffic volume No difficulty or congestion in
peak hours
Well established infrastructure facility
Reduces traffic congestion
Relatively More travelled Time Journey is tedious and chaotic Stoppages not followed every
time It covers many areas Bus Stands easily accessible No such system exists Can be used to serve areas of
low traffic volume Difficulty of getting it in peak
hours due to heavy traffic Poor infrastructure facility Creates traffic congestion to
normal traffic
