From desperately needing to seek refuge from the heat to seeking refuge from the cold – yes, some kids were wearing jumpers on Wednesday. With the cool came some rain (not enough but some) and Baddaginnie is starting to sprout greenery on the ground. Don’t forget that our prep kids are full time from next week – no more Wednesday sleep ins!

Parent-Teacher Interviews We will be holding parent-teacher interviews in week 9 (at Swanpool) and week 10 (at Baddaginnie). These will run for between 10-15 minutes to allow a more formal setting for conversations about how your child is settling into the new school year and areas for support. This is a two-way conversation so please be open to asking any questions or for advice on how we can best support you to support your child’s learning. Please complete the attached booking form and return to school by next THURSDAY. If you do not nominate a time, we will set one for you.

Fundraisers It’s that time again… the Swanpool parents are running 2 events, a wood raffle (tickets attached) and a Swanpool Cinema afternoon – see flyer in the newsletter for more details on when and costs. Swanpool families – please provide a plate of afternoon tea that can be shared for the cinema afternoon – it’s not until April (and school holidays) so think about what you and the kids can make.

Have a great LOOOONG weekend, Dianne, Pauline, Princess, Barb and Kate

Shrove Tuesday Morning tea came early on Tuesday with a tasty surprise for everyone. Thanks to Miss Fitz for shopping and cooking such yummy pancakes (and Pauline too). With Arthur and Isobel in charge of toppings (butter and jam or lemon and sugar), everyone enjoyed sitting down at a very long table and tucked in. As the munching stopped, the lip and finger licking started. Conversation turned to toppings people enjoy at home, from honey and ice-cream to fresh fruits and even savoury mince. We all agreed – pancakes are

YUMMY!

Junior Room News This week at a glance – the letter of the week is Mm. Our Big Book was The Hungry Giant. On Shrove Tuesday we had yummy pancakes with the Senior Room, and completed some writing tasks about them. (Thanks Pauline for helping with the cooking, and your frying pan.) In Maths we are working on Place Value. All children now have a sight word list in their homework books that needs to be read regularly to help support their reading. Saying the words in sentences also helps. We are endeavouring to complete a research task on a sea animal in Integrated Studies. In Week 7 the Foundation students are now expected to come to school on the Wednesday. Stay safe over the long weekend! Dianne Senior Room News Week 6 passed us by so fast it felt like Friday more than once! Our spelling routines are forming well, from new words on Monday to completing a grid using syllable and sound knowledge skills to having the test section in our books set and ready before the test begins. We have been revising our body position and pencil grip in handwriting; our main focus has been forming letters the correct way (always start from the top) and correct use of dotted third lines. We have been identifying reading skills that we personally believe we do well and where we need to improve. Everyone has chosen a skill to improve on this term and we are finalising how to achieve the goal. A copy will be in the homework folder next week to support at home achievements. In Maths we finished up on place value with extended notation as a focus. The ability of everyone to correctly read and write number of increasing value has been impressive. Our work on oceans saw everyone developing their research skills, using keywords to refine and improve notetaking. Our focus was on life cycles, with everyone choosing their own creature to study. We also watched a GREAT video of a shark hatching from its egg. Homework; nightly reading 15 minutes (5 nights minimum), nightly spelling, weekly grid (due Fri.) and test on Friday. Enjoy the extended break, Kate

Thursday 28th March Parent Teacher Interviews

It’s now Week 6 and the students have settled well into their morning routine. We read from 9.00 to 9.15am and parents are always welcome to come in and hear different students read.

In the Junior Class this week we have had a big focus on counting patterns, in particular counting by 2’s and 5’s. We have used unifix cubes and the abacus to help us learn these new skills. The Junior Students have also been studying the letter ‘R’ this week, reading about ‘Rosie’s Big Radish’.

A heads up – our Parent/Teacher Interviews will be Wednesday 27th of March and Thursday 28th March after school. Notes will go home closer to the time but we wanted to let you ‘save the date’.

Late last week, our school was treated to a visit by Beryl’s newly hatched chickens. We learnt many interesting facts about the incubation and hatching process, as well as how to hold the chickens correctly.

On Wednesday, students had Art to avoid clashing with the Circus Day today. Suzie and Dana are connecting our students with a group of students in Indonesia, through their artworks. The Senior Students each created a bird’s eye view drawing of Strathbogie and a short filmed introduction to themselves.

The Circus Challenge by Abbey

I hope we do tricks. I love the carnival. I can’t wait until I learn a trick! Stay tuned for the wrap up of the circus challenge in next week’s newsletter.

Under The Sea by Logan and Paula

I wanted to make a Whale shark drawing but it is 12 metres long so it can’t fit in our classroom. Did you know the Megladon was a shark that lived 2.5 million years ago and it was 16 metres long! We also learned about the Basking shark. We did a life size drawing that was 8 metres long.

General News by Yatra

We have P.E. We are practising running for the Cross Country. We have Maths. We are making models of numbers. We use the MAB blocks.

Pancake Day On Tuesday morning the whole school walked over to the Uniting Church for their Annual Pancake Day feast for Shrove Tuesday. The kids got to choose their topping of lemon and sugar, jam or maple syrup. It was a big decision but they got it sorted. The pancakes were delicious and it was a lovely opportunity for the kids to spend some time with older and younger members of our community.

Keep Reading At Home The kids are keen to show their reader diaries each day for Class Dojo points and prizes. Congratulations to Matea King on reaching 25 nights of reading at home. In Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students are asked to read 1 book each night with an adult. Current research says kids who read at home with adults develop a love of books and become better readers.

Public Holiday Monday 11th March is a public holiday so we will see you all bright and chirpy on Tuesday 12th. Have a great long weekend. Take care on the roads.

What Happened:

This week we went to Pancake Day on Tuesday and had some pancakes and juice and everyone had fun! Everyone had to bring a gold coin donation. The Pancake Day money went towards homeless people. On Friday the 1st of March we had Swimming Sports and if you want to know Red House won. If you didn’t know Ruby Davis won the Iron Girl and Mathew Capobianco won the Iron Boy. Also at the Swimming Sports the House Captains got their badges including Amber, Angus, Bianca and Marly.

Student Shout Out:

Goes to Carter King for trying really hard at Maths.

Reminders:

Monday is a public holiday. Yay no school!!

Interesting fact:

Every tiger in the world is different because they don’t have the same pattern of stripes.

Everyone having fun at Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday). Blake and Bronti thanking the helpers at the Uniting Church for making the pancakes for us.

A massive congratulations to all Peranbin students for showing

wonderful sportsmanship last Friday at the VT pool for our annual PPC Swimming Sports Fun Day. All students gave it their best efforts by joining in all of their activities and events, cheering one another on and proudly representing their respective House Teams. Something new this year was to involve the Prep students, as it was traditionally held on a Wednesday. That meant that this year we had two grades of students (Prep and Grade ones) that experienced their first whole school Swimming Sports and I am pretty sure it won’t be the last!

It was fantastic to see many families and community members that came along to support our swimmers. The weather as certainly warm, perfect for swimming. Luckily there was plenty of shade at the beautiful Violet Town swimming pool.

Thank you to everyone that assisted to make it a fun day, including Peranbin staff, House Captains and of course the amazing students from each campus of Peranbin Primary College. Yet again, another one of our combined campus days together that all the kids look forward to and catch up with their other buddies.

Congratulations to winning house RED, runners up YELLOW, GREEN third, BLUE fourth

Euroa & District Badminton Association

EDBA are hitting off for the 2019 season with practise/grading nights to be held at the stadium at the Euroa Secondary College on Monday the 4th and 11th of March. Everyone is welcome, practice to start at 7:00pm.

Competition is to begin on the 18th of March and games will commence each Monday at 7pm. Fees: Adults $100, students/juniors $80 and if three or members play from the same family, there is a discount of $10 per player. There is also an early bird discount of $10 if fees are paid by the 6th of May and a payment plan can be arranged. There is also a couple of courts free for junior coaching or for those just wanting an odd hit - $2 / night / player.

The association this year is going to conduct a raffle for fundraising and will again man one of the rotary barbeques at the Euroa Farmers Market – date to be advised. Already the association has been able to purchase a number of new nets with funds raised from our raffle efforts last year.

And lastly, something new – the association is going to run an encouragement award with the prize being a new racquet to the value of $100. This is not necessarily for the best and fairest but for a player who commits to playing each week, turns up on time, encourages all those in the competition etc.

We look forward to seeing everyone back and welcoming new members.

For more information please see the Euroa and district badminton association Facebook page, or contact Shae Van Der Schoor [email protected] or 0412 576 380 or Brent Moore on 0423 863 442.
