From the Principal!
Condolences It is with sadness that we farewell Gina Putland this week. Gina, Rob and Shay have been a part of the Peranbin family for some years, and whilst Shay has moved on to a new school we send our sincere condolences to the family on Gina’s passing. School Council At our meeting last week School Council approved the 2019 Budget along with the Complaints and Fundraising Policies. I also tabled the 2019 Annual Implementation Plan. These documents will be available on the website www.peranbinpc.vic.edu.au . In addition, we discussed how the new Student Engagement and Wellbeing policy and whole college approach will be developed. This is a major piece of work which will take time to get right. All students, families and school councillors will have the opportunity to have a say about wellbeing at Peranbin. To this end I am starting with the students and working with them when I visit each campus. It is vital that we “hit the mark” with our wellbeing and engagement at Peranbin. I thank you all for your patience as we grow a positive culture across all campuses.
District Swimming Well done to everyone who participated and thank you to the families who supported all of our students at the pool on Wednesday. It is really important to cheer our kids on when we are at interschool events as it shows that Peranbin is a cohesive team!
Enjoy your weekend,
Angela

We swam, we shivered, we sweated, we played, laughed and sang and all survived 3 full school days in a row! Next week it will be 4 full days and then the much anticipated SWIMMING SPORTS. Please note that due to the sports on next Friday, we will swap campuses on Thursday afternoon. This means any students travelling from Benalla or Swanpool campus for the sports by bus must be on time for a BADDAGINNIE bus day (morning and afternoon). Swimming Sports Travel Thanks to everyone who sent back their travel plans for next Friday. We will have a smaller bus booked based on the information we received – if you can no longer drive to/from Violet Town pool on the day, we need to know ASAP to ensure everyone who needs a seat, has one. CHANGES TO BUS TRAVEL
It is the responsibility of parents to communicate IN ADVANCE to changes to bus travel plans.
The bus MUST leave each morning by 8:30am – delays in children getting on/arriving mean the
learning for the other students is negatively impacted.
If you wish for your child to travel by bus please be sure to communicate any changes to pick up /
drop off to Kate or Dianne. If it is on the morning of travel, Pauline MUST be informed.

Bus Captains We held our bus captain elections yesterday, with 7 students eligible nominating themselves. This year students in year 4-6 could run EXCEPT if they held another captain role at school. Well done to everyone who prepared and spoke so well yesterday. There were many carefully considered thoughts on what they felt was expected of them as a bus captain as well as giving some examples of safety rules and expectations of responsible travel. Congratulations to Isobel and Liam on their appointment to the role. District Swimming Competition Toby, Liam and Arthur represented PPC at the Euroa District sports mid-week. Here are their thoughts on the day: Toby – When I started I was pretty nervous because there were so many people there that were older than me. When Miss Weeks told me I was probably versing 13 year olds, I got pretty excited about that. When I got there and saw some of the older kids swimming I thought they must have rocket boosters because they were going so fast. Liam – it was really, really fun and challenging because everyone, except for Toby, came last. Some of the swimmers there were so fast, almost like Olympic fast. I had many emotions – worried, scared, excited and happy. Especially excitement, after swimming my races. I was almost bouncing off the walls. Arthur – I felt very nervous before my two events – freestyle and relay – and during the races I thought about getting to the end as fast as I could. Post race I was relieved it was over but disappointed I didn’t place. Junior Class At a glance -This week we focused on the letter Cc – what sound it makes, and things that start with C. Our big book this week was “Who will be my Mother? We wrote an Autobiography about our life so far, and also made a crafty ‘Autobiography of our Heart, and people and things that we love were parts of them. Spelling homework went home, and Year 1 and 2 had a spelling and dictation test on the Friday. Next week spelling homework, and spelling test will be on the Thursday due to the swimming sports on the Friday. Have a good weekend, Dianne Senior Class Another bit of a sorting out week for us as we were able to start our first official week of spelling. We paced ourselves across 3 days to make sure we all heard and were able to ask clarifying questions about the process of introducing new words each week, the word to syllable to sound steps and how to apply these to writing these correctly. Weekly spelling homework will come back into effect after swimming sports. Homework: 5 out of 7 nights a week – please sign off in homework folder; spelling – nightly tasks with test on THURSDAY due to swimming sports. Have a great weekend, Dianne, Pauline, Princess, Barb and Kate

Week 4 done and so are our swimming lessons! The change over of management at the Violet Town pool and the occasionally cooler weather has made our swimming program something of a challenge this year. We thank all the students and their parents for their support during these chopping and changing days – teachers are often just as unhappy with change as students. A big thank you to Kim, our wonderful bus driver, for getting us safely there and back each time!
A reminder that next week is our School Swimming Sports day. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours (Green, Red, Yellow and Blue) but please no coloured hair dye or face paint- zinc is okay. Streamers and banners in your house colours would be great. Speak to Ms. Ringin, Ms. Foy or Ms. Barratt about poster paper if you are stuck for poster paper.
The whole school met up on Monday at the Violet Town campus to vote for House Captains. Congratulations to Bianca who was elected Red House captain and Angus who was elected Green House captain.
Bit of a “Heads Up” – we have had a report of head lice in the school. Head lice are an irritating but normal part of school life and funnily enough, the cleaner the hair, the more the lice love it! Please check your child/ren’s hair and treat accordingly. It is also a good time to remind students with long hair to tie it back and not share hairbrushes.
Next week is the Parent Information Night, Thursday 28th February, in the hall at 5pm. If you have not already returned your survey, please do so by Monday. This will help us give you the information you want, rather than repeating information you’ve already had.
Our Junior Class has started their Spelling homework this week. Please check to ensure your child is bringing their work home on a Monday, ready to return on Friday.

Class Dojo
We use this fantastic program to record reward points for
our kids work and behaviour. We also send out messages
and reminders.
The kids will soon be sharing photos and videos of their
work with you which is so exciting for them!
Foundation Kids
Please send your child’s Book Bag and Reader Diary along
every day. For each night the kids read with an adult they
get a Class Dojo point.
Remember, reading time is most effective when it’s
relaxed and around 5 minutes a night.
You will have noticed your child has bought home Gold
words. These words are for them to learn each night to
help them build up a bank of common words to help them
read. Again, short and often is the best approach and
making a game of it is even better.
February 27th is the final Wednesday for Foundation kids
to be away.
Remember the welcome BBQ is that night too and I hope
to be able to catch up with you to chat about your little
one’s first weeks at school.
Have a great weekend

What happened
This week in the Senior Class we started to use our writer’s note books. We had to picture ourselves as a sea animal and write a story based on it. In Maths we learnt about place value. I like place value. We also learnt
about collective nouns like a quiver of arrows or a mob of kangaroos.
Student shout out
Breea for doing such a lovely job with the little kids
