Safe passing bylaw When driving at speeds slower than 60 km/hr, you are required to leave a minimum distance of 1m when passing a person cycling. When driving at speeds faster than 60 km/hr, the minimum passing distance increases to 1.5 m. Where can I skateboard, scooter, and in-line skate downtown and around Calgary? If you are driving slower than 60 km/hr, leave a minimum of 1 metre of space when passing someone cycling. If you are driving faster than 60 km/hr, the minimum space increases to 1.5 metres.

If you can’t pass safely with the minimum amount of space, slow down and wait for an appropriate opportunity to pass. You may cross a single solid yellow line to complete a pass, if it’s safe to do so.
