PENTECOST SUNDAY

Stewardship, A Way of Life “Tithing—God’s Plan for Giving”

Biblically a tithe means 10%. All are asked to consider tithing and return 10% of our income to the Lord (5% to the parish, 5% to your favorite charity). The spiritual practice of tithing disposes us to make God first in every area of our lives! The aim is to secure not the tithe, but the tither, not the gift, but the giver for God! June 2, 2019 In Pew Collection $14,671.00 (From 341 Households) Loose Cash $ 1,264.50 Online Giving $ 2,130.46 (From 51 Households)

Total Collection $18,065.96 June 3, 2018 $17,347.00

Currently, we have 1803 household

The materialism of our society lures us to concentrate more on what we want than on what God wants for us. The relativism of our world tells us that we should be tolerant of all things, that there is no absolute truth. Pray to the Holy Spirit to transform our lives and to guide our thoughts, words and actions.

DIOCESAN ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

Thank you to all who have contributed to the Diocesan Annual Campaign so far. Of the 1803 families in the parish, 486 families have responded.

Parish Goal (Assessment): $182,200.00 Total pledged to Date: $121,543.00 Amount needed to reach Goal: $ 60,657.00

As you can see we are a long way from reaching our goal. For a number of reasons the amount pledged is never collected in full. Deaths, unexpected moves, changes in employment situations, and other reasons result in a lesser amount being collected than is pledged. So every contribution counts and will help reach the goal. Thanks to those who have made a contribution. Thanks to those who will.

Reminder: If you indicated a pledge by Credit Card, please complete the process to update our totals. The Diocese will notify us of your pledge. To pledge by Credit Card, please visit www.hbgdiocese.org/DAC or call 657-4804, ext. 336. May God bless you for your generosity to the Diocesan Annual Campaign and to the Parish.

Many thanks to all of our generous parish and school families, along with everyone else who generously supported our "Lucky Day $10K Giveaway" raffle fundraiser. All proceeds help us to provide the best Catholic education possible for our deserving students. Father Burger drew the winning tickets on Friday, May 17, at Good Shepherd School. The $500 Runner-up Prize went to Corey Deibler, whose children currently attend GSS. The $10,000 Grand Prize winner is Matthew Fenwick- a GSS alum and son of parishioners Barbara and Bill Fenwick. CONGRATS to our winners! We, as a school and parish community, are indeed very LUCKY.

Next weekend’s second collection is for the Catholic Communications Campaign (CCC). Your support helps connect people to Christ, in the United States and around the world, through the Internet, television, radio, and print medias. Half the funds collected remain in our Diocese to support local efforts. Through your support, we produce radio messages from Bishop Gainer, promote the work of our Diocesan ministries in the media and will be launching a new series of podcasts and television programs. By supporting the Catholic Communications Campaign, you directly help spread the Gospel message to more than 240,000 people annually. Learn more about the Diocese’s Communication efforts at www.hbgdiocese.org/communications. Thank you for your generosity.

Faith in Action! The Diocesan Summer Camp for Adults with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities is seeking volunteers to assist at its residential camp, August 11-16, 2019. The camp takes place at Camp Kirchenwald in Lebanon County and serves the needs of approximately 40 adults. The camp has been held annually for the past 33 years and is primarily dependent on volunteer support. Last year, volunteers from parishes throughout our Diocese participated alongside volunteers from other faith communities to help make this ministry a success. Anyone 16+ is welcome to volunteer for full-time or part-time duties; there is a particular need for male volunteers, 18 or older, who are able to spend the night. All volunteers are required to complete the Diocesan Clearance process and attend a brief training session prior to helping at camp. There is no cost to volunteers; all meals, events, campground activities, etc. are included. A deadline of June 30, 2019 for expressing volunteer interest is requested in order to facilitate planning efforts. Sponsor a Camper - Would you like to sponsor a campership for a person with a disability who might not otherwise be able to afford camp? The Diocese of Harrisburg seeks donations to defray the cost for campers to ensure that each individual who would like to attend camp is able to do so, regardless of finances. A full week of camp costs $575, but donations in any amount will be welcomed. They can be sent to the Office of Ministry with People with Disabilities, 4800 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Checks should be made payable to the Diocese of Harrisburg. For more information on volunteering or sponsoring a camper, please contact Larry Kiley at 717-657-4804, Ext. 322, or email [email protected].

Project Rachel is a diocesan-based network of specially trained clergy, counselors, and laypersons who provide a team response of care for those suffering in the aftermath of abortion. The ministry serves as an open and non-judgmental place for post-abortive women and men to talk with someone about their experience and – when the client desires it – to provide referrals to professional counseling, confession, support groups, and Rachel’s Vineyard. Many women and men are at different places with their post-abortion experience, and Project Rachel exists to help these people find the help that they need in addressing the trauma, guilt, or grief they may be feeling. The Respect Life Office will host a training for Project Rachel on Tuesday, June 18, from 10 am - 12 noon (followed by a lunch) for any priests, therapists, or volunteers who would like to join the program. Please send an email to Tom O'Neill at [email protected] to RSVP.

SURVIVING DIVORCE To help the many people recovering from divorce in our diocese, we are promoting a program from Ascension Press called Surviving Divorce. This 12 week program is for both newly divorced people as well as people who have been divorced or separated for a long time. It is designed with three overarching sections meant to build on the coping stages of divorce – your emotions (e.g. disorientation, anger, depression); new adjustments (e.g. forgiveness, family issues, finances); and your future love life (e.g. whether to date again, Theology of the Body, Church teachings). For more information, please see the program website. We hope to have at least one parish in each deanery hosting this program, although the volunteer leaders can be from different parishes within the deanery. About half of the deaneries have already contacted us with volunteers (Adams, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York). It would be great to have volunteers from the other deaneries as well. Ideally, we are looking for two volunteers to lead each program, preferably either people with direct experience of divorce (e.g. themselves, their parents, their children, etc.) or people who have counseled others through their divorces (e.g. therapists, priests, deacons, etc.). The training will be held on a weeknight in June at the diocesan center. The training will only last for two (2) hours. If you have volunteers who would like to help lead this program, please send their contact information to Tom O'Neill at [email protected] so that he can coordinate a training date. Thank you!
