WHAT IS PENTECOST?
At the Last Supper, Jesus said to the apostles, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever, the Spirit who
reveals the truth about God.”

WHAT IS PENTECOST?
The word itself means “fiftieth”. Pentecost is 50 days after Easter and
ten days after the Ascension of our Lord into heaven.
Jesus fulfilled his promise to send the Holy Spirit at Pentecost .

WHAT IS PENTECOST?
The Holy Spirit emboldened the apostles to spread the Good News, the Gospel to
all nations. From the sound of rushing wind and tongues of fire, the disciples
were able to speak in all the languages of the known world. Everyone heard the good news in their own language and
dialect. By the end of the day, thousands of people had been baptized..

WHAT IS PENTECOST?
Pentecost is one of the most ancient feasts of the Church. It was mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (20:16) and
Saint Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians (16:8). It marks the descent
of the Holy Spirit on the apostles. For that reason, it is often called “the
birthday of the Church.”
