Come Holy Spirit, come into our hearts, inflame all people with the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit and all will be reborn. And You will renew the face of the earth. Holy Spirit, we give ourselves to you soul and body. We ask you to give us Your Spirit of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord. Come, Holy Spirit, Almighty Sanctifier, God of love, who filled the Virgin Mary with grace, who wonderfully changed the hearts of the apostles, who endowed all your martyrs with miraculous courage, come and sanctify us. Enlighten our minds, strengthen our wills, purify our consciences, rectify our judgment, set our hearts on fire, and preserve us from the misfortune of resisting your inspirations. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Pentecost and the SpiritPentecost and the SpiritPentecost and the SpiritPentecost and the Spirit There are two different accounts of Pentecost in this Sunday’s readings. According to John’s Gospel, Jesus gave the Spirit on Easter Sunday evening.

The first reading from Acts recounts the more familiar version of Pentecost: fifty days after Easter Sunday,

the disciples are gathered together in prayer when the Holy Spirit descends in wind and fire and enables all present to “speak in different tongues.”

The wind recalls the creation of the world when a “mighty wind swept over the waters;” the coming of the Spirit in a “strong and driving wind” is a new crea-

tion. The wind and fire together recall especially the appearance of God on Sinai. The descent of the

Spirit recalls the baptism of Jesus, which launched his public ministry and now inaugurates the ministry of the church. The gift of the Spirit that results in in-

spired speech recalls the stories of Eldad y Medad in the book of Numbers and of Saul, as well as the fu-ture age of the Messiah when a new outpouring of

the Spirit would result in a new age of prophecy. The reading from Acts lists all those who were

present in Jerusalem to witness the wondrous speech of the apostles. These would have been pil-grims who came from every known land where Jews

lived to observe the feast of Pentecost as required by the Law of Moses. The presence of those various

peoples anticipates how the Gospel will be preached to all the ends of the earth.

Catequesis Comunitaria

Community Catechesis We have been given the breath of God

—the gift of the Holy Spirit Solemnity of Pentecost Week of June 12, 2011

Listen to the Word (Acts 2:1-11) What is there in this reading that really speaks to your soul?

Look into Your Life Question for Children: When have you heard your inner voice or conscience guiding you to do what is right? Question for Youth: What strategy do you use to keep your heart open to the Holy Spirit, who speaks in your heart at the right mo-ment, guiding and forming your thoughts and actions? Question for Adults: Share about times when you felt the power of the Spirit, giving you the right words, giving you insight into a di-lemma, or in other ways.

Activities for the week Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

• On Pentecost, God poured out upon the world the gift of the Holy Spirit. Gather your family outdoors and point out the force of the wind. Discuss with your family how the Holy Spirit is like a mighty wind. Talk about how the gift of God's Spirit strength-ens your family. End your gathering with a family hug.

• Write each of the names of the fruits of the Holy Spirit on a slip of paper (charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity), and place the papers in a bowl. Each morning this week have the members of the family choose a slip out of the box and make an effort to carry out that behavior throughout the day. In the evening have members return the slip to the bowl, evaluating how they did during the day.

• Have a family affirmation time. Each member tells how he or she has seen the power of the Spirit working through another family member, bringing God's love and forgiveness.

• Take time during the week to pray together recognizing the action of the Holy Spirit and being grateful for its presence. You can use this litany: All: We thank you, Holy Spirit. Leader: For the gift of love.... For the gift of peace.... For the gift of wis-dom .... For the gift of understanding.... For the gift of strength.... For the gift of knowing the Lord.... For the gift of our family.... Amen

Please Help us Feed The Children

The Soup Ministry of the Our Lady of LaSalette St. Vincent de Paul Conference is again, partnering with the MUST Ministries Summer Lunch Program by preparing sack lunches for hungry children in Canton and Cherokee County. Last year with your help we were able to provide over 700 lunches throughout the summer. During the school year many children are able to qualify for the reduced or free lunch program. For some of these children this is the only meal they will eat that day. In the summer many of these children would go hungry without the Summer Lunch Program.

This year we have been asked to prepare Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches along with providing juice boxes, chips or snack crackers, and fruit snacks or fruit cups. These sack lunches will be prepared every Thursday at 10am in the Parish Center. Every one of us can participate in this very worthy ministry through donations of time, food items or by financial donations. Checks should be made payable to: Our Lady of LaSalette SVdP Soup Ministry. Join us in sharing the love of Jesus Christ with these families in our community.

Thank you again for your continued generosity.

Prayerfully, The Soup Ministry MUST Ministries of Cherokee County is also in need of volunteers to deliver prepared lunches to children throughout the county. If you can serve our neighbors in need in this capacity please email your full name, birth date, and email address to Jennifer Richmond, Cherokee Summer Lunch Coordinator, at [email protected]. She will then contact you with further information. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Los cheques deben ser pagados a Our Lady of LaSalatte SVdP Soup Ministry.

Chris mide casi 2 pulgadas.

“In the beginning…” 12th week

Chris is almost 2 inches long. Fingers and toes are separated. Chris could easily stand on daddy’s little finger nail. Chris’s feet are the size of the Precious Feet pins that have become the symbol of the pro-life movement. Finger nails and hair are starting to grow. The placenta is now providing nutrition from the mother. Chris likes pizza! “They, no less than I, were created in the womb by the same God who shaped us all within our mothers.” The Holy Spirit is “the Lord, the giver of Life,” to each of us, and to the Church.
