LITURGICAL MINISTERS June 15 & 16
A Reflection
“Advocate” is only one of the translations of the Greek word sometimes transliterated into “Paraclete.” Illustrate the richness of the Holy Spirit as heard in the reading from Acts by citing that the Greek word can and still does mean (besides advocate): helper, counselor, consoler, teacher, comforter, even defense attorney. They all mean or refer to someone who has been called to your side to help. Note that this Spirit, described dramatically in Acts, is the Spirit given to us less dramatically in the sacrament of
confirmation. Would calling upon the Spirit for assistance really help in a tough situation? We won’t know unless we try it.

Connections
Survival for the disciples of Jesus meant not being recog-
nized or captured. After seeing the horrible scourging and
death of Jesus, the disciples feared the same fate could
await them. Hiding out and keeping the doors locked gave
them some measure of security.
When Jesus miraculously appeared in their midst, the
disciples must have been terrified. To calm and comfort
them, Jesus said, “Peace be with you.” Then, Jesus
charged them with the great responsibility of spreading the
faith. He breathed the Holy Spirit into them, fulfilling his
Ascension promise and clothing them with power
from on high. We are similarly clothed and
recharged with that power on this Pentecost feast Dick Folger/Celebration

Community is Heart
Calling to Heart
Friendship, marriage, family, religious life, and
every other form of community is solitude
greeting solitude, spirit speaking to spirit, and
heart calling to heart.
It is the grateful recognition of God’s call to
share life together and the joyful offering of a hospitable space where the re-creating power of God’s Spirit
can become manifest. Thus all forms of life together can become ways to reveal to each other the real
presence of God in our midst.
Community has little to do with mutual compatibility. Similarities in educational background, psychological
makeup, or social status can bring us together, but they can never be the basis for community. Community
is grounded in God, who calls us together, and not in the attractiveness of people to each other. The
mystery of community is precisely that it embraces all people, whatever their individual differences may
be, and allows them to live together as brothers and sisters of Christ and sons and daughters of his
heavenly Father.
In Case of Experiencing Sudden Pentecost Symptoms:
If you suddenly find yourself caught in an indoor tornado and your scalp on fire, it might be Pentecost.
Know what to do:
Notify the priest.
Fight the urge to stop, drop and roll—this Fire won’t go out.

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intention for June
That priests, through the modesty and humility of their lives, commit them-selves actively to a solidarity with those who are most poor.

Saint Vincent de Paul
We would like to thank the Knights of
Columbus for the very generous check of
$3,400 which they presented to St. Vincent
de Paul on Sunday, May 19th. They were
able to contribute this to our mission
because of the success of the Knight’s Len-
ten Drive this year. Our St. Cyril’s
parishioners donated funds and food during
the drive.
Thank you Knight’s and St Cyril’s parishioners! Because
of your help we can make a difference in then lives of
families in our community
Thanks to all our generous Parishioners and Knights of Columbus volunteers for a successful 40 Cans for 40
Days program this year. Parishioner donations of $2,400, along with a $500 matching donation from one of
our individual Knights and a matching $500 donation from our Parish Knights of Columbus Council, resulted
in $3,400 being raised for the needy in our Parish. We also collected 281 pounds of food. In the photo above
our Knights presented a check for $3,400 to Saint Vincent de Paul representatives during coffee and donuts
following the 8am Mass on Sunday May 19th, 2019.
On behalf of the needy, a huge thank you to everyone!!

USED BIBLES NEEDED FOR
COFFEE CREEK
The Chaplin at Coffee Creek prison has requested
Catholic Bibles in English and in Spanish. Last year
we brought many after a conference at Mt. Angel;
they went fast. The Bibles should be in good
condition, clean copies with no markings.
They are greatly appreciated by the inmates.
Please deposit the Bibles in the box by the east
door of church marked USED BIBLES.
