Ungodly men by their words and deeds summoned death;considering him a friend, they pined away, and they made a covenant with him, because they are fit to belong to his party.For they reasoned unsoundly, saying to themselves,"Short and sorrowful is our life, "Let us lie in wait for the righteous man, because he is inconvenient to us and opposes our actions; he reproaches us for sins against the law, and accuses us of sins against our training. Where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or insincerity. And the harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. What causes wars, and what causes fightings among you? Is it not your passions that are at war in your members? You desire and do not have; so you kill. And you covet and cannot obtain; so you fight and wage war. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. Unfaithful creatures! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings:

Another week has gone by and by the grace of God almighty we have been able to fulfill our daily duties and obligations. In cases where we were not able we pray that the good Lord will continue with us and that we will continue of a path to fulfill our goals.

A tip of the biretta to the recent participants of the two computer courses offered by the St. David’s Church and to the two respective facilitators.

Our church offers a course called “Introduction to Computer” facilitated by Mrs. Kathy Greenidge. and one in “Desktop Publishing” by Mrs. Cynthia Reid.

A computer of course is an electronic device that manipulates information, or data. It has the capacity to store, retrieve, and process data. You can use a computer to type documents, send email, play games, and browse the Web.

You can also use it to edit or create spreadsheets, presentations, and even videos. Some use it to

chat with relatives and friends overseas using video conferencing software.

Mrs. Cynthia Reid facilitates the course in “Desktop Publishing”. We went a bit further this time and persons graduated with “Advanced Desktop Publishing”

According to destoppub.org, Desktop publishing is the use of the computer and software to create visual displays of ideas and information. It is used to generate fliers, brochures, newspapers and bulletins, such as the document you are reading at present.

We can be justly proud that our church continues to provide much needed and desired service to the community.

What may impress us even more is that fact that these courses attract the more mature persons in the community who have committed themselves to the notion of life-long learning and are determined that the world in which we live will not leave them behind. We must be proud of them all.

Computers and computer technology has changed the way we do business and interact from day to day and it behoves each one of us to become au fait with the technology.

May God almighty be with us in our church programs and may we use all the tools available to share our knowledge with others.

NEWS AND CURRENT EVENTS SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR DOMINICA

A special collection will be taken on Sunday September 27, 2015. The funds will go from our Diocese to assist with the restoration of Dominica.

ANNUAL LUNCHEON This event will be held on Sunday, 25th October at Sunbury Great House from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The cost is $60:00 for adults and there are limited children’s tickets at $30:00 each. Buy your tickets in groups of 8 or 10 and enjoy lunch together.

COMPUTER INTRODUCTORY COURSE This course, guided by Mrs. Kathy Greenidge, will run from September 17, 2015 until January 28, 2016, timed 9:00 - 11:15 a.m, with a three week break at Christmastime.

HEALTH GUILD WALK On Saturday, 26th September at 5:30 a.m. the walk starts at St. David’s car park, proceeds along Cox Road, Edey’s Village, left at Frere Pilgrim to Boarded Hall roundabout, left to South District, left at Edgerton and back to St. David. Come and participate in this healthy exercise.

HYMNSPIRATION The St. David’s Men’s Fellowship presents this programme on Sunday, 27th September, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Contribution $5.00 Light refreshment will be on sale.

HEALTH CORNER by Dr. Sophia Marshall

By now, every member of the St. David’s Church should be involved in some form of regular exercise! (Hint Hint) Therefore after that bold statement, this is just a reminder of the phases that should be included in each exercise session. There are as follows:

• Warm-up:

A minimum of 5 to 10 minutes of low to moderate intensity cardiovascular and muscular endurance activities

• Stretching:

At least 10 minutes of stretching exercises performed after warm-up or cool-down phase

• Conditioning or sports-related exercise:

20 to 60 minutes of aerobic, resistance and/or sport activities

• Cool-down:

At least 5 to 10 minutes of low to moderate intensity cardiovascular and muscular endurance activities

Why is warm –up important? It allows the body to prepare for the demands of the conditioning or sports phase of the exercise program. It is designed to increase body temperature and reduce the potential for after-exercise muscle soreness.

Why is cool-down important? This phase allows for the gradual recovery of heart rate, blood pressure and removal of metabolic end products from the muscles used during the more intense conditioning phase.
