LOCAL ACTIVISTS HOLD PRESS AVAILABILITY TO OPPOSE Senators / RepresentativesBOUGHT- AND-PAID-FOR PENTAGON SPENDING PLANS
[Names Of Groups, People] Convening Outside Congressmans Town Hall To Oppose Plan to
Protect Fat Cats Over NationalSecurityCITY-- On DATE at LOCATION, local activists from TKTK will HOLD A PRESS AVAILABILITY /
RALLY to protest attempts by SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE/PUBLIC OFFICIAL to avoid the hard
choices of a bipartisan law signed last year that requires mandatory spending cuts across all branches of
government, including the Department of Defense. NAME OF PEOPLE/GROUPS believe the
CONGRESSPERSON and HIS/HER colleagues should seek a comprehensive, balanced deficit-
reduction plan that puts Pentagon spending on the table to promote American securityincluding
economic securityand preserve key middle class programs or jobs so important to STATE citizens.
GROUPS/PEOPLE will attend the town hall to express their opposition to the CONGRESSPERSONS
plan, which puts tax breaks for millionaires and Defense Department spending that the Pentagon says it
does not want before Americas economic security and the middle classincluding the TKTK millionmeals that would NOT be served to needy NUMBER STATE seniors, the NUMBER STATE women
would NOT receive cancer screenings and the NUMBER STATE veterans who would NOT receive
employment assistance if automatic cuts were triggered. Automatic cuts on the defense industry and
homefront investments like education, bridge-building and fire-fighting threaten to go into effect next
year as a result of a law that House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-CA),
Senate Armed Services Ranking Member John McCain (R-AZ) and an overwhelming majority of their
colleagues on both sides of the aisle voted for last year.
Activists will explain their agreement with Chairman Dempsey, Admiral Mullen and former Secretary
Gates that America can only be leaders abroad if we are strong at home. PEOPLE/GROUPS will discuss
our shared view with these military and national security leaders, supporting reductions in the rate of
growth of the Pentagon, including those in the Obama administration budget proposal which avoids
triggering the automatic cuts through a balanced approach. As we end wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is
time to reinvest in the long-term economic security. Any serious plan to avoid sequester must be
balanced, taking the Pentagon into account and considering revenues as well as cuts.
