Hello from Miss MelTerm 2 has been jam packed with lots of amazing events including our much loved Annual Choreographic Competition, Scholarship Applications, Cecchetti Convention, and a few surprise announcements and guests along the way.

Miss Carla has announced she is expecting her own little baby dancer later in the year, though at the moment the only date she’s focussing on are her teachers exams. We

know she will get gold stars both in her exams, and as a new mum! And we wish her well for both major milestones! Good luck Miss Carla from all your dancers and friends at PSD!

For me one of the biggest thrills has been to greet one of my past students, Francis Lawrence who is currently with the Dance Theatre of Harlem (New York), and has enjoyed a respected run O/S as a performance artist.

Francis was originally a Cecchetti student of Miss Lorraine Blackbourn OAM and myself and it’s been a sheer delight to see his talent evolve. From little things big things grow, and Francis came back to visit us recently to share a bit about his journey, and give advice to our students.

It’s moment like this which make me honoured channel my passion into helping talent evolve! I hope the kids got a kick out of meeting Francis!

Top Dance Snack Food

Bananas make a great snack! Easy to pack, filling and full of energy. Pop a couple in a blender with

some milk & a dash of honey YUM!

Another great after school, pre-dancing snack is one of my favourites, Cheesey Tuna Pasta. Simply cook pasta then stir through grated cheese and a tin of tuna. Yummy, filling &

packed full of energy.

Well done to all who entered the Choreographic Comp. This annual event is a long-standing tradition at PSD.

We are always blown away with the creativity, courage and confidence our students display! Some of Australia’s well known teachers, dancers & choreographer’s names are listed on our perpetual trophies - Chloe Dallimore & Jason Colemen just to name a few!! Everybody starts somewhere and we are so proud that our school has fostered a love of dance in so many.

How to keep your little dancer warmWith the weather turning cooler, keep your young dancers rugged up!

They can keep their muscles and joints warm by insulating with legwarmers around ankles, scarves for neck and shoulders, bodysuits for hips and spine and some after dance lesson uggies for their hard-working feet.

The key is really to just keep moving though. And with our active little dancers that’s not too hard

If students wish to participate in the annual performance they must be able to attend additional rehearsals during term 4 and be available for the dress rehearsals, photo days and of course the performance! There’s more info to come but this is just to help you book in the grandparents!

Important dates to remember:

25th & 26th October - Photo Day (PSD Studios)8th & 15th November - Full School Rehearsal for students in the evening shows only (PSD Studios)22nd November - Dress Rehearsal at Southern Peninsula Arts Centre(Pre-school students will only be required in the morning approx. 9.00am – 11.30am. PSD is thrilled that some students may go on to pursue careers in dance and the performing arts, and others continue the tradition of passing on the love of dance through becoming a teacher. We nurtures this though a Teacher Training Program.

You have probably noticed older students demonstrating and helping our youngest dancers across the dance floor. We encourage those who have a genuine passion for dance, love working with young children and are committed to developing skills in the art of teaching. Our two tiered program with Student Assistants and Teacher Assistants helps us streamline this interest and passion, and set goals with the students with a term plan.

Our Teacher Assistants are :- Dannielle Prioretti, Sophie Gould, Sophie Armstrong and Emily Williams.

Talk to us today about the teacher training program if you are interested in knowing more. And let’s all give a round of applause for these committed kids!

Encore Club MembershipWe are thrilled to announce, to what we hope will be thunderous applause,

that our Encore Club has organised some fun and entertaining events!

Why do we need a club? For students here on the Peninsula access to live theatre can be limited by both distance and cost so we decided to do something about it! We acknowledge that our role here at PSD is much more than just teaching the steps. We inspire a passion for dance & the performing arts. Access to live performances is

an important part of a dancers training, it exposes us to traditions, new ideas, provokes debate and most importantly can be breathtakingly inspiring! As a club member you will receive access to discounted

tickets (where possible) and we will endeavor to assist with transport through carpooling.
